The First Lady of Australian comedy.
She may be "off stage" now but Australia's Grand Dame Edna Everage should live on .. on Television.
Some of her finest moments have been on Australia's TV Week Logie Awards over the years.
This short compile features some of her best including her appearance at the 1984 Awards ceremony with Bert Newton.
The 2012 Logie Awards are scheduled for Sunday night the 15th of April.

    So incredibly sad that He didn't even get a proper send off because the government didn't want to take the focus of voice. So much laughter so much enjoyment but absolutely nothing .

    So incredibly sad the Australian government wouldn't even give him a send off because they're so far up their ass with their political correctness . So much laughter and enjoyment and he just passed away with only a couple of words which they say the family wanted but it wouldn't have been Barry that said that

    This guy has to be one of the all time funniest people ever. Dame Edna takes 2nd place to no one. And I mean NO ONE. She had the BEST punch lines and could get away with anything.

    I was a professional performer for 30 years and learnt so much from watching Barry. That thing of just pulling a face and having the audience in stitches if it was done properly . We were so lucky to have this sort of entertainment before Google took over

    Well as far as i am concerned, she is greater than any entertainer. i just wish that i would have known the scope of her genius years ago when i had the oppertunity to see her. a brilliant entertainer for all times!

    in the rush for equality a lot of stupid women got jobs who weren't qualified and they believed that if somebody didn't get a joke they would be destroyed for life so everybody had to miss out

    I was born in 1989 and Dame Edna has always kind of existed in the background of my childhood. Its so nice seeing people laughing and enjoying themselves in this video but I've never really understood why the character is found to be so funny.

    more specifically, it's paying out the grandiosity of 1950s Australia, who, because of their victory in WW2, spared no expense in living out their largess and their sense of (earned) superiority (since they're literally: The Greatest Generation).

    @GG The character was born from satire (not stand-up) and evolved over time. Are you familiar with Kath & Kim, Chris Lilley, Sharon Strezleky? These are also some examples of Australian character satire. The American comic Amy Shultz has also had immense success in parodying a white, privileged young trash bag character, and is considered very funny in todays day and age.

    @@melatomic Having been born in 1989 of course ive heard of those people... That comedy was of my generation of people. Dame Edna was dated and old by the time Kath and Kim etc came of prominence. No one my age (30s) ever talks or has talked about Barry Humphries being funny or entertaining.

    The Mr. Hawke that Dame Edna refers to was our Prime Minister at the time (83-91). The Norn person is Dame Ednas husband.

    It's strange, because they don't pronounce the r's that are actually in words. You can hear a lot of Brits pronounce "I saw it" as "I sorrit."
