Living With A Porsche 718 Cayman GTS! [10,000 mile update]
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Happy New Year!
Welcome to Life In Motion and to 2023. Diving straight into the new year, I want to update you all on what it has been like to live with my 718 Cayman GTS over the past 10,000 miles or 10 months.
I start by showing you around the Cayman and then, when I hit the road, I talk you through the good bits and bad bits of my experiences with this car.
A shout out in this video is to Porsche Centre in Swindon, where I've purchased this car and my previous Cayman (featured in the video) from Jordan. They are a fantastic team and well worth a call if you're considering a new Porsche.
I hope you enjoy this video and don't forgot to comment below what you think of the Cayman but for now, I'll see you soon...

Great video man! I also have a 2018 Cayman GTS and love it! When I bought mine CPO, I too had my 4 year service light come on 3 months after ownership. The dealer quoted me 3,100 USD for the service!!!!! That’s insane!!! It wasn’t until I mentioned I bought the car 3 months ago , ( and under CPO guidelines, if any routine service is due within 6 months, it is covered free of charge). So glad I dodged that bullet!!! Beautiful ride ! Mine is in GT silver :)

Really good video mate. You have a really natural/friendly yet informed way about the way you present. Great stuff

A perfect pairing there! Thanks, very pleased with it 👌🏻
Great video again. Excited to be picking mine up soon. Mine is lowered by the standard 10mm, wish I could do the 20mm as yours looks so good, but too many speed bumps where I live. Thankfully mine has been serviced by the dealership ahead of collection and virtually new tyres, so hoping to avoid those lofty early expenses you incurred.

Superb, very exciting! Enjoy. Although mine was the 20mm lower, it probably still could do with slight more so I wouldn’t worry. I’m sure it will look great. Send me a picture on Instagram when you get it - @limuk18
Makes me chuckle when the boxer 4 came out it was massively criticised for sounding dreadful. I’ve found it to be fantastic, just different from the boxer 6. So interesting to hear to highlight that you love the sound

I agree! I have come from a background of only ever owning smaller turbo charged cars but I speak to several 992 911 owners who say when my car is high in the rev range, it sounds far better than theirs!

I have a 2019 GTS and I love the sound also. A while back some guy told me " real Porsches have six cylinders". I smile, take out a picture of my old 1964 356SC and show it to him...silence.

Always wanted a Porsche however my wife hates them. The owners of a pub down the road bought this car in this colour and she loves it. This may have just been my green light! - looks awesome BTW... Nice one and great video as ever mate

First time seeing your videos! Planning to do a tune or exhaust mod on it? Which one?

Ah thanks for watching! I’d likely leave the tune and just go for an exhaust. I’ve got some repair work to do on the current exhaust which I’ll run through on a video soon!
Really enjoying your porsche videos because I am seriously considering getting one First thought a 981 boxster s then a cayman s. Recently thinking a 718 cayman s but the thing putting me off pulling the trigger is how quickly these cars change hands. If they really are as good as everyone says then why doesn't anyone ever hold on to them???

Thanks for the comment! It’s a good question. For me, the car is fantastic however I wonder how many people move from 718 to 911. They are also an ‘affordable’ way into the Porsche brand and so it’s likely many will go for the 718 first. If you take your Audi RS3/Merc A45s drivers, if they want a sports car then for similar money, you can have a 718
I feel stupid for saying this, but one of the main reasons I'd want to eventually upgrade from my GTS 4.0 to 992.2 C4S are the cupholders (the other one is AWD for winter). I prefer to get my caffeine shot on my way to work and I just wouldn't trust these cupholders with anything. GTS is probably as close as a very track-capable car with incredible mid-engine driving dynamics can get to daily usability, but 992 does this job even better without being any less sporty. Just the rear-engine dynamics are different, but not in a bad way, IMO.
@LifeInMotionuk

Ah it might say crazy but I get it! I always asked for a large cup with my medium drink so I know there’s less chance of it spilling but even then…in my opinion, any reason to change to a 992 is a good reason 😉 enjoy the car!
@Dragobrath
Жыл бұрын
@@swargolet Look for aftermarket solutions first. There are cupholders that can fit next to gear lever on the passenger side, or that go into a compartment on a center console (the one which is replaced by smoking package). I just eventually switched to caffeinated sports drinks. They have higher caffeine per lower volume, and 250-330ml cans are safer to use with Cayman's cupholders than large coffee cups.
I was thinking of doing a similar one on living with a Civic type R at 265,000 miles .

Thanks! I would say, make sure you test drive lots of options before you do. The 718 is a fantastic car, but I’ve heard from many that it’s not a car you call for. I’ve found the car just becomes more and more impressive!
Current GTS 4.0L is based on the 992 3.0L, not the GT3 4.0L. The GT4RS is the one with the GT3 4.0L. Beautiful car, btw. Love the Miami blue. Enjoy it in good health!

Hi! I am looking to buy a GTS, similar to yours, what mileage do you think is a "good" place to buy the car in terms of upcoming maintenance?
@LifeInMotionuk
Жыл бұрын
That’s a tricky but good question! So i service the car ever 2 years of 20k miles. The second service on my car was the major one at £1,400…so I’d say if you can get a car that has just had that service done, you should see a good few years of low maintenance costs. If you buy from a dealer, it’s worth checking the history to see whether they will service the car for you before collection 👍🏻

currently between gts/s or the new supra. i love the porsche but the servicing cost is scary 😅 what's the mileage/year of yours?
@LifeInMotionuk
Жыл бұрын
So it can be scary! I’ve mentioned the major service was £1,400 however I had a base 718 for 2 years (20,000 miles) and, as it was serviced just before I picked it up, I didn’t service it at all whilst I had it. If you did find a car, I’d recommend checking when the next service is due and what it will be! Perhaps the dealer will agree to subsidise you - this car is a 2018 car and I’ve just shot over 30k miles on the car!

@@LifeInMotionuk yeah that's a good idea! I'm aiming for august time to purchase one! The mpg seems decent tbh my 350z is awful for fuel 😅🥲. Did you feel a big step up from a 718 base to a gts?
@jonfrench7133
Жыл бұрын
That’s a top notch tip. I’ve made the mistake of buying a porsche BEFORE the next service was due. Get the dealer to do it or make sure it’s just been done then you get 2 years without any service costs. Second tip also check the tread depths, 4 tyres will also be around a grand

Sounds good! You know the GTS feels more alive. It’s got that extra power and limited slip diff that makes it more exciting! Saying that, I thought the base car was all I ever needed until I drove the GTS!
Your service cost seems unusually high for a relatively young and lower mileage car. Are you still using an OPC or a specialist? The two year cycle is punctuated by extras like brake fluid and the V belt, which can add up. But I’ve never paid four figures to service my 997.2, which is why I’m curious as to what you actually paid for… Lovely car, BTW!
@LifeInMotionuk
Жыл бұрын
So this was with an official Porsche Centre, Porsche Swindon and the cost was rather height but the car was 4 years old and 20k miles so it required a major service. I hadn’t appreciated it would be that high. Thanks, I’m really pleased with it!
@christianpratt
Жыл бұрын
@@LifeInMotionuk Aha! OPC labour rates is your problem. Independents are going to be usefully cheaper - Paragon quote £924 for a 718 four year service, for example. Depends how much you want to keep in with the OPC, anticipating your next car. But stepping outside the OPC network frees up budget. (My 911 is 12 years old - madness to pay OPC rates fora car of that age.)
Not looking to sell the 718 are you :)
