Explanation of the tiny home by Courtney
/ hipsandhawswildcrafts
/ hipsandhawswildcrafts
Sadhbh (pronounced like Sive) is an off grid tiny home on wheels.
A 1995 Irish 28 seater passenger Mercedes 609D bus.
The 600 series refers to 6 tonne gross vehicle weight (09 refers to a 90hp engine).
It was converted to a campervan by its previous owner but it was a rough finish so I enlisted the help of the talented The Imperfectionist: a talented couple Rowan and Lucy that do up old Mercs for a living. They converted the bus into the beautiful home that it now is.
Whatever could be was recycled or re-purposed from the copper reclaimed from an old hot water cylinder that became the heat deflection surround around the stove to the sofa cushions from an old sofa which saved on the expense of buying new quality sofa foam, to many other details.
The bus is off grid with all power (12volt) by solar panels on the roof. There are many USB ports around the bus to recharge things. All the lights are low power consumption LED. I don’t yet have an inverter but if I invest in one I’ll be able to power 240 voltage for things such as my laptop. But I can recharge my phone and head torch by USB and all internal lighting inside the bus.
There’s a compost toilet which has a pee separator and uses sawdust to cover the solids. This is a very efficient system and has no bad odours at all. It’s easy to empty into a compost heap to rot down.
There’s a large water tank under the bus I can re-fill as needed. And the gas stove has a gas canister that needs refilling infrequently.
There’s a wood burning stove to heat the space. If I’m using this I heat all my water with a kettle on top of the stove and I store it in a Stanley flask to keep it hot through the day. The stove was commissioned and handmade by FireWeaver Julian Cowdery in the UK.
/ the.fireweaver
I had to get an HGV truck license to drive this bus and while this was time consuming and expensive it was worthwhile as I now feel full confidence to drive such a big vehicle safely.
Size:
Length 24’ 3” or 7.4m
Width 7’ 6” or 2.3m
The bus is primarily parked up on a farmers land where I help with the animals in exchange for a parking space.

The whole concept of Tiny Homes is really interesting. Not really comparable but my neighbours have bought a 10 year old motorhome with the money saved from not being able to go abroad. Unbelievable how everything you need can be crammed into a small space - it may well be part of the future.

I very much enjoyed this video it is so good and inspiring to see people like you and your friends living a simple yet so enriched Life. I live in a very small apartment but it is cozy and welcoming and i make it very pretty to the eye and I don’t spend very much at all in the process, I don’t need anything bigger and as I was watching this video I remembered some years ago visiting Los Angeles USA and I was walking in Beverly Hills among this Massive opulent Mansions with huge manicured gardens behind tall Iron gates with cameras on either side and suddenly I felt Sad and I thought it would be So lonely to live in one of this Cold and so called “perfect Mansions “with perfect huge gardens and I just want it to run away from there I became really sad .. it didn’t felt Real to me.. it had the feeling of emptiness and the energy I felt been there standing in this incredible Opulent and extremely Wealthy neighbourhood observing this mansions was that the people living there were Sad and depressed and Confused I tend to sense energies of places and people and I get affected by them. But today watching this video and every time I watch Fairyland Cottage I feel a calming serene joyful Energy and I feel Peace .. 😌🙏💜💚❤️ THANKS!!!!
I also live in a tiny house! Mine is made out of an old camping van we found when we bought our new property. My mom loves foraging for mushrooms- we just procured a giant haul of chanterelles and lobster mushrooms which she is currently preserving. I have some turkey tails growing at my house that we’re allowing to get a bit bigger before harvest, and she found some curry mushrooms and showed me what to look for so I can pick them out form the rest of the LBMs (little brown mushrooms). This year we were able to get a lot of foraging done since we are both unemployed- well, she’s retired (after one year of working she decided stay-at-home wife was better for her XD) so we have made fireweed tea and fire flower jelly, black currant jam, and picked bunches of wild raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It’s almost season for the apples and then the high bush cranberries, and I’m so grateful I live out here and can do these things with my mother, learning the different plants and seasons, finding mushrooms, coming home to my house that is just big enough for me.

Hello! Curious what you do with your high bush cranberries.
@cloudGremlin
3 жыл бұрын
@@Meinvt mainly make cranberry sauce XD. My mother also makes wines and ciders, so she might try a cranberry-apple cider for the winter season. The bark can also be used medicinally to help with cramps! Edit: I just realized high bush cranberries also include the viburnum opulus which is a European strain, and basically inedible. We have true North American species out here! We also found some wild raisin bushes, which when ripe, the berries have a taste similar to molasses. A roast done up with high bush cranberries and wild raisin sounds in order!

Hi, Courtney here... Sounds fantastic! Sounds like we have a lot in common. I haven't ever found the lobster mushroom yet, I am not sure if its in Ireland or not, but love to find it one day!
Having lived in a 35 foot travel trailer in the mountains with my family, I can appreciate the way that she has created a cozy home. The footage of the peacock is lovely.
Very beautiful! Thank you for inviting us over to see your home. Where the magic of the internet allows thousands of us to fit inside all at the same time. 😁☘😁

I have friends who lived exactly like that with their kids for a long time. I always enjoyed visiting them, because their trailer was so cozy. :) I think people need to realize that it's not necessary to have a big home. Living tiny has so many benefits and can give you financial freedom too.

The Financial Freedom! Now that's what I'm talkin about😉 Of course, there's many other benefits of living simply and in a smaller space. What are the most popular things going on here in the United States is downsizing! There are more houses and condos being built for seniors than any other type of building space right now. People who have lived in large homes, Mansions, large Estates, and etc. are now moving into one and two-bedroom senior living facilities and they love it! I plan on doing this myself in the future. Smaller spaces are always so much more cozy, warm, and inviting.

@@jemma50 We have power outages here in the wilderness quite frequently… we just had one for several hours this morning, and will have a scheduled power outage next Sunday for 10 hours. Power outages make me realize how much I love electricity, the internet, and running water (no power means no water since our water comes from a well, and the well pump runs on electricity.) We also live in a big house here in the wilderness… it is great to have the space when people come to visit or when we host gatherings, etc. It is also essential to store all our outdoor gear, sailing and water sports equipment, camping equipment, tools, hobby supplies and many instruments (my partner is a musician). When we go camping or travelling I like to go minimalist, but at home… I like to have space. This is not the current trend, but it’s me. Have a great rest of the weekend 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary

I live in a tiny home myself. Not off the grid, but in a tiny apartment. Some people thought I was crazy when We bought it… but it allowed us to live mortgage and rent free. As we furnished it ourselves it covers all of our needs, it has a beautiful aesthetic and I have never been so comfortable and so at home in my life. Plus, the private patio and the common outdoor area invite for family reunions and reading, enjoying oudoors and watching birds. Tiny homes steal my heart! 💜

Good afternoon from Chicago… I’ve never left a comment on a KZread before but as I lay sick in bed for the 5th day in a row with covid (I’m vaccinated), I just wanted to send you a most heartfelt and tremendous thank you for your work. I have had a difficult few months and am unfortunately capping it off with covid and your videos are helping me to heal and stay grounded. Your voice, the little twinkles of music, soft lenses, the scenery, the delicious foods, beautiful crafts, warm cottage, every part of it is literally filling my heart daily. Prior to being ill, I found many of your suggestions very useful and easy to do from organizing the house to banana water for plants… I have a difficult job and am a high-energy person and following your lead I may just come out of this bed rest and buy a country home and say to hell with all this! Again, thank you for your work and sharing you and your husband’s (happy belated!!!) lives. With love, Em

My husband and I live off grid in an RV. We sold our house 2 years ago and don’t regret it for a minute! We have solar and a composting toilet (Nature’s Head). Because we live in the coldest part of Canada, we go south to Arizona in the winter, although Covid has put a wrench in our plans. It’s a wonderful life🥰

I always enjoy watching your videos on Sunday mornings, but this one was so well timed. I just purchased a used mini-van that I am converting into a weekend adventure camper. Where I live, it is hot and the air is hazy from nearby forest fires, but I woke up early to put in a couple of hours on the van before it got too hot. Alas, there is a nut that just will not budge from the bolt at the base of one of the seats I'm removing. I was grumpy, hot, sweaty, and discouraged. So, I went in the house to cool off and saw you had a new video up. Courtney's home and slow tea preparation calmed me right down, and encouraged me to work toward my goal of a beautiful weekend "tiny home".
Thank you for sharing your wonderful friend and her living space that is so creative and lovely.
What an amazing woman. I left a beautiful 2 bed apartment to live in a static home that was virtually derelict. It's in the New Forest on top of a cliff & I'm surrounded by forest & beaches. It's not quiet but I love this way of living as it helped me slow down. Its tiny you can barely swing a cat, but its mine & the pups & expands my joy & creativity. This was a pleasure to watch 🌈🙏
I loved Sadhbh's off-grid tiny home on wheels. Her love of foraging mushrooms is reflected in her little mushrooms artwork, teas, and mycology books.
