Awe my mum made all her own jam and marmalade door the family. The best memory of mums jams would be on Sunday and Wednesday morning as that was the sausage made fresh bread for the family of six kids, I am number five. Bless her she also worked full time in a sweet factory and made wedding gowns too. I don’t know how she fitted it all in. Dad produced all our fruit and veg so they only things we went shopping for was meat, flour, dairy, grains and the occasional chocolate treat. I had a very privileged up bringing and fantastic mum n dad. Xx
This brought back memories of living in the mountains and the seasons of keeping an eye on the many wild blackberry bushes that grew around the area. First you notice new canes and leaves, then you check each morning for the first blossoms to appear. Finally you see tiny green berries, and then it's just a matter of time before you are out each day with a bucket, picking and eating and getting the berries ready for the freezer and making cordials. You can truly learn the seasons this way. Wonderful video.

I love homemade jam. Mmmm. I can’t even imagine how many hours year after year I spent helping my mom make pickles, pickled beets, salsa, all kinds of jams, syrups, stewed tomatoes… And, oh my gosh, we would bottle 4 dozen at a time. 😭😅😅😅
Oh, yesterday I was just thinking about making some jam with the tiny japanese oranges found in my garden before the birds eat them all... And, yes, how great it can be to eat a toast with homemade jam with a cup of tea in the morning. I grew up seeing my grand grandmothers, my grandmas and my own mother making jam with all the fruits available in our gardens during the four seasons. And, just like you , I use the same recipe that I found written by my grandgrandma, my grandmother and my mother. Their handwritting is a legacy of Love, pleasure and Health. Have a Nice week!♥️
It is the same thing here in Germany. Our summer is more like a prolonged spring so it takes a lot longer for the earth to work her magic. 💚

In my country too, for example the strawberries in the forest, they late about 2 weeks to be ready to pick. But this year we have lots of blueberries, so I am happy, there always something is more and something is less in the nature.
Honestly my mom was raised farm to table the cooking method was little bit of this a little bit of that! Her meals were absolutely delicious 😋 Yes I would enjoy another chat!
The buddleia are gorgeous! I don’t recall seeing them grow wild here, but are a favorite in the gardens. My blackberries on a single bush have been prolific this summer. After two enormous cobblers, I am freezing the rest of the harvest for winter, when a hot cobbler will remind us of summer’s warmth & bounty.
Yum, and the bouquet is gorgeous with such brilliant hues!

Those flowers are beautiful. And I bet those jams are so good. Mother Nature really provides. ❤️🥰👍👍
I'm reminded of my first berry jam experience years ago. I was so proud of them, lining the jars on an open shelf to display them. Then I started noticing black spots in the jars.... yes, I must have done something wrong along the way. But I kept trying and got it right the next year! I can also identify with your opening remarks. All of a sudden ALL our tomatoes are ready to harvest. This means we must stop and make our sauce that we put up to last us through the year. Nature can dictate your schedule!!!🌈
Life’s journey is full of such simple blessings! Thank you for bringing some of these to our attention. Stay healthy and strong, and rest well, Niamh.💗
If I was a bee 🐝 or a butterfly 🦋 I’d be heading for that gorgeous purple wildflower too. Excellent point about not procrastinating when it comes to collecting food from nature. Berries 🍓🫐 do not wait. Awesome little video this week Niamh, love the jam!! Thanks and have a wonderful week ahead. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary

@Enchanted Homeschool I think she meant the whole video, and perhaps she doesn’t have the disposable income to buy a candle. It’s hard to understand that these small things, even free time in the day, could be a privilege. Maybe you could watch her channel to show support.
I would love to hear more stories of you as a little girl with your grandparents. They sound like lovely people. 🥰
What a lovely calming vlog, that jam looked delicious Niamh, have a great week, God bless, 😍🙏😊😇
Brings back fond memories of my mother making jams and preserves. Thank you.
What a wonderful video: simple, yet profound as always! I would enjoy another video like last week's--it was delightful.
Jam looks awesome, my husband and I make jam every year. We had some leftover blackberries and blueberries, so we combined them. The jam was so good, we called it black and blue jam. Love your videos, so inspiring! Sending many blessings from our family to yours🌸
Your videos always calm me down, especially during troubled times, I can’t thank you enough for that!!! Making jam is one of my favorite things to do, we grow a lot of berries here in Dartmouth Massachusetts, of course our feathered friends get most of it but they also share with us😂 Have a great week 💕😊

Love all your videos, Niamh. Your voice is so soothing! Yes to another Q & A with you and Terry! xx
My dad just gave me this container of blueberries and I didn't know what to make but now I think I'll try out making some jam too.
Lovely jam and lovely video... yes please to more videos with the two of you, and thank you for the words of encouragement, not just regarding jam, but for life and dipping ones' toes into new situations, so to speak. 🌾🫖🪴 Seasons here are moving rapidly toward late summer and harvest time, but there are still a few green stalks of new oats, and I was thinking of gathering them in for some tea blends later this winter. This summer my time is taken up with completing projects but I am hoping next year will offer a more slow pace and time to follow the seasons with some harvesting and foraging, if I am lucky! Best to you both!!
I love everything about this video. The shot through the trees of you walking was very well done. I could imagine the smell of the jam when it was shown bubbling, and that was another beautiful bouquet of flowers. Hope you are enjoying the beach, and another video of you two would be fun! Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.

Yes please do another like last week. Loved it. And many happy returns of the day.
A few years ago I visited a friend in Alaska, which for me was a big trip. I love to bring back souvenirs for family when I travel but I didn't really have money to buy much. One day of the trip my friend had planned for us pick blueberries, they grow like crazy where she lived. We had the best time picking berries that day, and we had way too many to eat before they went bad. Then it dawned on me- we could make jam with them! I'd never canned before but my friend had, so she walked me through it - and the best part- it made great souvenirs to take home for family!
And, yes, please...more Terry and Q&A!
Thank you - this reminded me I’m making jam later today, so I’ve put some jars in the oven I was just using, so they can sterilise in the residual heat 👍
Jam with a cuppa, is pure delight. The purple butterfly bush, 🦋 the bees create such a gift, and butterflies make your heart sing. ❤ Thank you for the warmth and pleasure of a Sunday morning.
Hi Niamh, thanks a lot your lovely video.I just enjoying the moments that you re filming. You re gifted to lead a wonderful life in the country.God bless you and Terry.
You are such a kind person. Please don't ever change!!!
A thank you isn't enough. Your channel is like a shelter to me. Everytime I feel frustrated, overwhelmed, without purpose or motivation I come here and I find calm, relax, inspiration and gratitude. I hope I can make my life slower and slower and settle in the countryside and live the way I like. Thank you so much. Lots of love Serena
I don’t think I have ever left a comment before but I just wanted to say thank you. You are such a delight to watch and listen to and you are such an inspiration to me as I continue to simplify my own life. Sending love! 🥰🌻💛
You teach me to see our backyard in a whole new way. Many thanks Hun.
I adore the Butterfly Bush! We had one at the last home that we lived in. I had purchased it at the local nursery and planted it. It grew there for 20 years and grew to be very large and healthy, having to be cut back often, at which time I loved putting bouquets together like you did. They smell so wonderful! When we moved from that house I thought about taking a cutting so I could start another in our new home, but I decided I would just pick up a new one at the nursery. Sadly, I soon found out that Oregon, where we live, had outlawed the sale of these bushes saying that they are a noxious weed. I am so confused and annoyed by this because they are so beautiful and I can't image how they could possibly be a problem. We don't have a crazy amount of them growing wild, and in 20 years I only had one volunteer bush show up in our yard... which I was delighted to see spring up! We are not even supposed to propagate them here. I can't imagine the reason why.
Good morning !! Would love to see another video like last weeks. It was absolutely delightful 💕
You gotta have Terry in your future video, sweetheart. 😁 I love how the season are changing and the plants, flowers are also changing. It's like telling you, to pause, breathe and enjoy the moment. 🌿🏵️🌼 Thank you dear for always sharing the weekly content that is making our life so stress free and happy at life. 🙏🌸✨
I think different fruits have varying pectin content the setting sugar has pectin. I usually weight the fruit and they do 3/4 of the fruit weight in sugar, squeeze of lemon, you can test the set on a cold plate before jarring up. Great video x

We have a gooseberry bush in our garden, so just made a batch of strawberry and gooseberry jam, the gooseberries have a higher Pectin content, so help it to set. Already made Blackcurrant, so we’ve enough jam for the year now, plus it makes a nice little gift , we wait for the Seville oranges , and do a batch of marmalade in January . Nice to have in the cupboard, for cakes and breakfasts . Love your video Niamh xx
Tea and toast with home made jam is one of life's simple pleasures. I love the flower arrangement. I did enjoy last weeks video. Thank you

I was the same, I put off Jam making for years because I thought it was really complicated, then I made some strawberry jam using a really simple recipe and it was delicious. I make if often now (although I overcooked my last batch and nearly broke the spoon trying to get some out! luckily I just make one jar at a time). Wonderful video as always thank you and its a big yes from me to you both doing another video together. Have a lovely week xx
The jam and flowers are both absolutely gorgeous!! And I’m sure the jam is delicious too!! Thank you for sharing!
I have never made jam but watching today you have given me the confidence to have ago. Yes please to more vlogs like last week as so enjoyed seeing you working together was such a joy.
I love wild flowers. I don’t have a garden but I have a balcony so this year, I planted a couple of flowers from seed in containers on my balcony. Some poppies, sweat peas and a mix of wild flowers. They have just started coming up and buds opening and the interesting thing is, I don’t know what is what until a bulb opens. The sweet peas are distinguishable as they are climbers but what I thought was a poppy turned out to be some kind of yellow wild flower when they bulb opened. I have learnt patience and to just let nature take its course with this flowers and just be an observer.
Yes, the Q and A was a fun video, would love to see another. All of your videos are extremely enjoyable!
Thank you, Niamh! Now I shall be brave enough to make jam! We moved to the country in Australia 2 years ago in my 50s. ☺️ This morning I saw the first flower buds on the mulberry. 😀🌸
Another lovely video! My English grandmother had brass weighing scales. In America, I have always used volume measure - also a very precise, old & waste free way. No batteries required.
The butterfly bush in my yard just started flowering sometime in the last…10 days? I’m in Ontario, Canada though, and we seem to be much later for everything than you are in Ireland. It will bloom for weeks still.
I would love to see more videos with Terry!

This, to me, is pure bliss. Those beautiful purple and lavender flowers ( they look like our lilacs here in the States ) , those plump and juicy raspberries, the pure beauty of your surroundings............it’s so lovely. Thank you Niamh for bringing us into your peaceful, magical world. 🌿
This was truly lovely!
I loved last weeks Q&A! It was so genuine and funny. This video has inspired me to try my hand at jam making!
My grandma used to make freezer jam. Raspberry, strawberry, and marionberry, but the raspberry was my favorite. When the jar was basically empty, Grandpa poured milk in the jar and shook it up, using the remaining bits of jam to make berry milk.
Good day Niamh ( and Terry). It's been very smoky from the fires here in Canada. I went out and picked Saskatoon berries anyway. It sure brightened my day sharing the berry picking with the birds and bees and then coming home to make a special dessert for my husband and I. Gorgeous colours in your video today from flowers to jam and your outfit! Everything in life is better with tea:) !

Lovely video. Thank you! Add a stick of cinnamon when you cook any jam & remove it after cooking. Also you may add juice of a lemon or a lime too. I add a wee bit of rock salt or pink salt too.

If you have trouble getting other types of jam to set, mix in an apple or some blackberries. They are higher in natural pectin.
