The older I get, the less I’m now finding the need for “more”. I had slowly started going in this direction already but this last year with the pandemic, well it’s sped things up. I need less and I choose quality over quantity. I got rid of a lot of things that no longer served me, no longer felt important or had out lived their use. Like you, I always wanted the latest brand name fashions, higher end jewelry (not fine jewelry-still was out of my budget), expensive handbags, the latest in home decor. But after donating many items and bags of clothing (which no longer fit), I realized just how much money I had spent. Don’t get me wrong, I still love nice things. But these days, I’ll thrift for preowned items of quality; be it clothing or furniture. I got rid of kitchen/home items that I had to have once upon a time. Now, I use things that belonged to my grandmother and great-grandmother! The are still useful and in far better condition than what I had purchased at the high end kitchen/home stores. (Most are from the 30’s-50’s). I have repainted some of their old furniture, which is far superior in quality and is better looking than the furniture I purchased a few years ago that is already falling apart. Likewise with friendships. Sure, I’m still friendly with people. But I’ve taken a step back from certain ones that are superficial and kept close to the few that will be there for me on my bad days as well as good. The ones that despite what they are going through, they still have time to listen to me about what I’m going through. And I’m there for them in return. I once had a “friend” that said she didn’t have room I her life for any negativity and didn’t need to hear it. That she only wanted happy, positive people in her life. Well, don’t we all? But that’s just not realistic nor is that a good friendship; particularly when it was ok for her to vent about her latest problems. Everyone has problems; some worse than others; but they are still important to the person going through them. I’m not talking about toxic friends; just to be clear. Rather these are more self-centered individuals. My circle is smaller, but my friendships are richer. My lifestyle is richer, yet it has less. I feel better about myself as a person of higher quality all the way around. (Sorry for the long comment...my thoughts took off on me ☺️) Have a good week!

I am an American. My ancestors immigrated from France in the 1600’s. Our family celebrates Independence Day every year with our Laotian friends and their extended family. We cook their traditional foods together. Yesterday we made Larb together with all the aunts and grandmother. The grandmother does not speak English, but she is happy to share her cooking knowledge by demonstration and she chats in Lao and I answer in English. And although we do not understand one another by language, we can still learn and share with each other. America is a country of immigrants. Some are old and some are new. I celebrate our diversity.

Striving to have more "things" comes from a poverty of spirit. And it just creates more inner poverty. When my girls were growing up I first heard the word abundance being used from the perspective of spirit. That there is more than enough for all if we live respectfully and mind fully. Minimalism to me is less about what my home looks like, but more about living with a sense that I have everything I need. Both within and without. I loved your video!

Something I have always told people who say they want a 'simple life in the country' is 'simple doesn't mean easy'. While I don't run myself ragged doing simple things, I understand that growing vegetables and baking bread takes effort. Many people are not willing to put in the work that allows them to live simply. Good video.

The first thing I did when I retired was sell my house and move to the country. I have a one acre one woman homestead, no animals. Just honey bees because I am madly in love with them. This place is a wonder. It backs onto the woods and has wild berries, wild oregano, thyme as ground cover and beautiful flowers all over. And of course my gardens. I just put in an orchard. It is a bit of work, but so satisfying and very peaceful. You are right to appreciate whatever the harvest brings. Have a wonderful day! ☮️💕

One thing to remember is that in the past, folk took pride in what they did. 1.Things were made to last. 2. People took care of their possessions. If a button came off, the garment received another. It was laundered & hung up ready to wear again. 3. Speaking of clothing, I had a set for home worn for work & play. Also had a set for school and another for church. We wore aprons when cooking & tidying. Which brings me to the question; where do you get yours? Or pattern to make the ones you use?

My grandma grew up in a very rural area of Canada in the 20's-30's, in a very poor family. But her mother was an excellent seamstress and was taking LOTS of pride in making very well crafted clothes from high quality fabrics (the only thing she was willing to spend some extra money on) for her children, her husband and herself. She would modify the clothes to fit each of her kid's body shape as the clothes would be passed down. The clothes were hand washed and ironed very often so they would always look impeccable. They were so well made that my grandma and her sisters inherited some of the clothes for their own kids, and once again her mother re-worked them so they would fit 50's fashion! My grandma always said : we were dirt poor but we were dressed better than the Queen of England! 😊

Living in the city is truly more expensive. My friends have half the income we do and they have a home of their own, a piece of land and that peacefulness because they do not worry so much about bills. We on the other hand spend so much money on rent and utilities that we could simply support ourselves with that money without needing more. I noticed recently that during the pandemic me and my partner just got so unmotivated to cook the convenience of food deliveries really took a huge part of what we could save up. It sometimes feels that if you would be forced, without these accommodations life would be much more about enjoying things and not about consuming them. Thank you for always bringing me that peace of mind ❤

What I have learned is gratitude. At 72 so much of life is in the past. Savoring what is left is my goal. Living truly as if it was one of the last. Thanking the Lord for all His blessings and my Abba Father for creating me in the first place. And for placing me in this small Montana town . The people are real and the spirit of family and community are a solid foundation for life.

It seems to help me, when I think I want something, to write it down on a list in the back of my notebook and wait a couple weeks - so many times, I’ll come up with a better idea using something I already have, which is more fun. With clothes, I’ve gone to so much work to pare my closet down and love it like this, that I want to keep it this way and not clutter it up. I really, really love your channel, by the way🥰 It always makes me feel better.

Thank you for this nice and calming video. I am usually a quiet viewer, but today's video spoke to me. I am on the same journey as you, going from city life to rural life, starting to farm, etc. It has brought me patience. I do not have a lot of lessons from my family that I could apply here, as they are all city people through and through but what I have learned from the land and my whole journey is this: 1) Plants that look like they are about to die, often do recover. They just need more time. Healing takes time. And if they only produce one single fruit that is still a beautiful success and just as amazing and powerful then the plants who were healthy all along. We should treat humans, especially ourselves, like this too. 2) You are allowed to let go of the past. Not only the things you owned but also old beliefs, old characteristics, relationships, all of it. You are allowed to let them go during the process. 3) I really fcking hate capitalism Have a nice day, greetings from a small island!

That chocolate cake and strawberries looked so delicious! 🍓 Everyday after work, I go to my pallet garden, I have some strawberry plants, I pick and eat the ripe ones every day. Not many daily, but just a handful. Best tasting berries in the world! 🍓 What I do, is to buy expensive items second hand. I bought my last washing machine used, from a company that gives service to them, and give 2 years of warranty. 👍Have a nice week! 😊😊

Another week of great content, my friend. It really hits home as I have been in that mindset - running quantity in order to be happy. From things to friends to work. It just made me miserable to think that those did not give me genuine happiness as compared to my planting vegetables which really lifts me up and the sheer joy that it gives me. I learned from my mom and grandmother that quality is better than quantity. Especially when it comes to things that you want to last a lifetime which is true as we still have some things at home that were bought by my grandmother (like sewing machine which is working still) and mother that we still use to this day. Have a lovely week, everyone! ✨🙏🌸

I've discovered that it takes maturity, insight, a sense of self and sense of God, a humble nature, and sane sensibility to be able to possess quantity and still experience the richness of quality. Life shouldn't be a choice of either quality or quantity...life is short...denying the abundance of God is what organized religions want from us. Organized religions want us to visit this world, God's table, but only choose 2 things from the table of plenty...and the 2 things must be the same 2 things chosen by everyone else. I enjoy God's blessings.
