Living in Bangkok: Morning Market, Delicious Feast

This is a Thailand vlog about living in Bangkok, and just a typical half of a day. In the morning my wife and I will often go to a local neighborhood market to shop for groceries. Even though on the day I made the vlog video my mother in-law and wife made food for some of our friends as well, this is not at all untypical of what my mother in-law cooks on a daily basis for us to eat at home.
So we first went to the market, bought some vegetables, some herbs, and plenty of chilies. Then we continued on to buy some fresh fish and then went to the indoor market area to buy curry paste and also to buy coconut milk. Curry paste is very convenient to buy in Bangkok, and there are stalls are every market that have a variety of pre-pounded curry paste that you can buy to cook at home depending on what you want to cook and eat. It does taste good to make your own, but it’s very convenient to buy it from the market. We then also bought some freshly squeezed coconut milk, which is also easy and convenient to buy at any Thai market.
After going home, I did some work for a couple hours, I’m working on producing a video about the top things to do in Saigon, Vietnam (coming soon), and I also had some blogging and e-mailing to do. I didn’t help with too much of the cooking, but I was called by my wife to do some taste testing!
At about 11 am, the time finally came for lunch. I first stir fried up a plate of sunflower sprouts, which I really enjoy doing, and then I sat down for a full southern Thai food lunch. The first dish I had was gaeng tai pla (แกงไตปลา), a fish innards curry that’s one of the most popular southern Thai foods. Then I ate some of the gaeng som malakaw (แกงส้มมะละกอ), as southern Thai sour soup of fish and green papaya. It’s one of my favorite foods living in Thailand, and though it’s from the south of Thailand, I eat it nearly everyday in Bangkok. Lastly I ate some of the khanom jeen nam ya (ขนมจีนน้ำยา), a thin coconut milk and fish curry from southern Thailand as well. Typically it’s served with khanom jeen rice noodles, but I really like it with rice.
Khanom jeen nam ya recipe: www.eatingthaifood.com/2015/05...
One of the reasons I love living in Bangkok and in Thailand are the morning markets, and the delicious food you can make from all the ingredients available.
Hope you enjoyed this vlog, and I’d love to hear what you think about it in the comments section below. I would like to do more and more vlogs about daily living in Bangkok or traveling, so keep checking back for more video updates!

You are definitely living the life Mark. Your acumen is very notable when it comes to informing the viewer of all the culinary delights of your travels, and I must say that your English is so so perfect. Your enunciation of every single vowel and syllable that should be uttered is quite impressive. I know some people don't care, but believe me, there are those of us out there who do take notice. Your channel and your videos are very informative and well executed; an excellent point of reference to anyone who might be wanting to learn more about exotic foods. I know, I perceived that; but his English is truly perfect, well pronounced and enunciated. To be so formidably spoken yet so care free is very rare for an American. Believe me, most Americans don't speak English as well as Mark does despite the fact that English is their first language.

Hi Mark, I have been enjoying your utube food adventures and what obviously appears as wonderfully delicious dishes at home in Bankock. When I see the variety of foods you are exposed to I see how limited my diet has been my entire life. The traditional american diet is not the healthiet.. I live south of NY City in central New Jersey, USA. Much of the food you ate in N.Y. is part of my diet. NY style pizza, sausage, onions and peppers on italian rolls, stuffed cabbage, hamburgers and french fries is common place. I have a friend who is from Okinawa, Japan and she has occasionally created some fine japaneese cuisine with simple healthy vegatbles sauces which is a delight to experience. Look forward to your continuing food showcases. Best always to you, your wife/camara tech support and mother in law. Live the good life in Bangkok.

Mark can you make a video about learning Thai language? I think it would be very helpful for people who would like to learn other foreign language.
