As always, we on the Kop cheered Gordon to the rafters. We loved the man. He was a hero to us because of 1966 obviously, but also because he single handedly always gave his teams a chance of a shock result at Anfield through his world class performances there. Add to that the fact that he came across as a humble man and a thoroughly decent one. I was on the Kop that day, his last game before his crash the following day. It was a privelige to have seen him play. RIP Gordon Banks.

Sad day as it was his last game. A great Keeper and a Great man. A real gentleman how England need him now! England only lost 9 of the 73 games he played in!

I followed Stoke all over the country in those days and I remember this game well.God I feel old! The Kop always had great respect for Gordon

I was at this game with my brother. A couple of Stoke fans in the paddock. Gordon was brilliant and unlucky to beat by a deflection in the end.

This could have been a cricket score for Liverpool but for the goalkeeping heroics of the late, great Gordon Banks!

Great to see the kop applaud the legend that is gordon banks,remember a time when shanks took him over to the kop and the applause he got was something special...shankley tried to sign him on many occasions I believe

This was the first game I ever saw from the Kop (boy's pen b4 this). Looking back, it was a privilege to have seen this great GK play.

What a player! However was already a great Liverpool,before his golden era,is impressive thus watching the mytical Gordon Banks

I was at this match and although it isn't obvious from the TV pictures, Cally's winning goal took a massive deflection over Banks's head, but I didn't care about how it went in as long as it did. It was a brilliant season for Liverpool, winning the league, UEFA Cup and doing the double over Everton. Sadly, this was Gordon Banks's last ever match. The following day he lost his eye in a road traffic accident.

Marvellous match. Sweeping Liverpol moves - Rogers take note. A talented Stoke side. Banks was amazing. No falling about with his weight in the wrong place or going in the wrong direction like lots of modern keepers. A deflection was just about the only way they could get past him.

I’ve gotta say stoke fans are going to be crying tomorrow along with me. Who wouldn’t he was not only a club but obviously an England legend. R.i.p banks

Mr. Banks: Fearless. Aggressive. The antithesis of those awful stay at home keepers who are merely trying not to look bad, as they give up multitudes of so-called blameless goals.

Banks along with my hero of the era, Alex Stepney, was truly great and were quiet confident men. These days too much money, too much exposure it is a shame and I am disgusted when I see the figures they receive. It is not the players fault I know but the fault of the organisation, TV channels etc BUT to have someone kick a ball around for 100,000 a week and more and have Joe Soap earning 25,000 a year supporting that - Wrong!! Wages should be capped. Anyway enuff of my rant - thanks for viewing

Not to mention the weight of the ball in the 70s 5 POUNDS and also nobody here recognize George Best siting with the guys in the TV studio room

They did against Brazil in 1970, Scotland 1967 regardless of those results he was a truly great goalkeeper.

How the goalies catch the ball back then, instead of all the punching they try today.

There are no great saves here but Banks showed his greatness. His command of the area and presence is amazing. Also, at 6-20 he leaps like a cat with great bravery at the pool players feet and makes him miss. Now can anybody tell me why modern goalkeepers, in the main, are just not brave anymore? Yes, they are bigger, much bigger, than old keepers but have no balls

@@parisstromatias637 I am talking generally. Do you think I'm saying all keepers in old days are small and all today are huge? If you think that you are lacking imagination. I am talking generally. When I was growing up in the 60's there was a saying ' you gotta to be crazy to be a keeper'. Do you think that applies, generally, today? But I believe that generally keepers today are not that brave. For a start, they don't have to be as they are ridiculously protected.

@@parisstromatias637 Interesting question. It appears people close to him didn't see his resignation coming. Perhaps he woke up one day and thought he'd done enough for Liverpool FC and football, so it was time to retire. What I do know is when he did retire he spent more time at Everton's training ground as I think Liverpool kept him away as they wanted Paisley to have no 'interference'. That's what I heard.

banks était encore le meilleur gardien de son époque (de loin). Par contre, au niveau du jeu pratiqué, je pense à liverpool, le niveau d' équipes comme ajax, voire, feyenoord était bien supérieur.

D'accord. À ce moment (début 1970), Ajax ont été bien supérieures à Liverpool, simplement parce qu'elles étaient les meilleures du monde.

A lot of people do not know this but Gordon was deliberately poisoned in Mexico in 1970. So his accident in 1972 lost us qualifying in 1974. 2 world cups lost

Agree Georgie does look the worst for wear but you must remember the time that this was made, early 80's if I am right, and this style was prob the fashion!! Tony Wilson and football = bad mix, even his interview methods were shite!! Glad you enjoyed it ;-)

I was in the anfield Road end for I had a dislike for stoke fans after they ambushed us at stoke the previous season though we did take the Boothen end unfortunately no stoke fans came to anfield rhat day Godder

You all do make me laugh, I'm 48, watched and played football all my life, the good old days??, they wouldn't stand a chance in today's game, fitness or professionalism , best, law , any of them, no chance

You must be having a laugh! Most players now would collapse if they played 42 league games a season or 60 total games (like Keegan did). As for professionalism lol You never heard of players going on strike or refusing to play like you do now! Also most top players now could not handle the brutal tackles suffered by Best, Pele, etc!
