Notice how the liverpool fans clapped in appreciation of Stoke's consolation goal at the end... I was there in the KOP in those days... we appreciated good football whoever played it... I was at the wolves game at the end of that season too... happy days indeed !!

I had just started to be taken to games at this point, though I don't really remember as a 4 or 5 year old too much of the detail. However, it is a surprise to see fellas sitting in the Kemlyn wearing shirts and ties in 1976.

This was my first match at Anfield. I was only 12 so Dad would not let me on the Kop. I just remember how huge the Kop looked from Anfield road. Seems like a lifetime has just filtered through my fingers.

I was in the Anfield Road end that day. We were 3 points behind QPR with only 3 games to play. After the game we heard that they had lost 4-3 at Norwich. We could win the league if we could win the last 2 games, away at Man City and away at Wolves. We did. I went to both. The Wolves game went down in Liverpool folklore with 3 goals in the last 10 mins to win 3-1. Happy, happy days.

Terry Conroy? What a player. He came from Glentoran of Belfast. Before that he was with Shamrock Rovers I believe. He was Republic of Ireland international. John Giles thought the world of him. The whole football experience back then was superior to today's game. It was a working class thing. It was our thing played by guys who looked like us.

I remember that game. I was only 8 but used to be sat in front of the telly watching World of Sport or Grandstand waiting for the results to come up. First time I've ever watched the highlights. Stoke were actually a really good footballing team in those days. Unlike the hackers they became in the Premier League era. Both England number 1 keepers on the pitch. Greenwood used to alternate them in those days for England. But Clemence was better. Shilton wasn't as good at jumping. As Maradonna let everyone know.

That penalty decision was outrageous, but to be fair to Keegan he did look pretty embarrassed about it. Good game though and it was nice to see the Kop applaud Bloor's goal, mind, the game was already won.

Liverpool were fantastic then , of course, league and uefa cup double about to be completed, but didn't Stoke have a hell of a lot of great players too, there was a lot of talent about then. I wonder why it all dried up around, ooh, say , 1986? And didn't the london press/media play their part? I wonder if they knew it would all turn out so favourably, to their fave teams!

Did Stoke have a snazzy away strip that day? Wouldn't look out of place in today's game.

Il Liverpool il calcio già moderno in un insieme in cui erano i n.2-3-6-5- a venire avanti a fare gol e a far segnare...devastanti
