Live Exploding Rifle Grenades
Ойын-сауық
We teamed up with our friends at Weapon Genetics to launch live M26 grenades with M1A2 rifle-grenade projectors from an M1 Garand. We also tested to see what happens if you were to screw up and accidentally shoot a rifle grenade with a live round.
As always, don't do this at home due to the potential Darwinian consequences of making and using live explosive ordnance, in addition to various government agencies wanting to possibly meet with you after a demonstration of how their flash-bangs work.
If you like what we're doing here at Ordnance Lab, please support us on Patreon, as we have plenty of cool projects we are working on: / ordnancelab . Our Venmo account is here: www.venmo.com/ordnancelab.
If you are company needing to a threat simulation or to test your products against live ordnance such as Claymores, grenades, Improvised Explosive Devices, indirect fire weapons, and such; please contact us at info@ordnance-lab.com.

My Dad was in the NJ National Guard, starting in the mid 60s. He went through basic with the M1 Gerand, and was taught to fire rifle grenades. Later, he was assigned to the 50th Armored "Jersey Blues" in artillery, and retired as a Captain. He was taught to fire everything from the M72 LAW, the TOW and Dragon missile systems, and up to the 155mm howitzer.

The ww2 grenades used a longer fuse. They were 7 seconds not the later 4.

a few weeks ago the american m22 smoke grenade almost took me out. i found 2 with my metaldetector and one was abit broken. when i saw smoke comming out i knew i needed to back up really fast. they contained white phosphorus and as we all know that shit is awfull so it kinda exploded and threw fire everywhere. luckly no one was injured, no fires and no more remaining phosphorus

where did you find them? you don't have to give an exact location if you don't want, but was it just out in the woods somewhere, and what state or part of the country? that's a crazy find, i wonder how those ended up wherever you found them.
The idea is you ALWAYS ground the rifle at a 45° angle toward the target; how deep the grenade is on the launcher spigot, increases your range. Fully inserted = max range. Hand grenade adapters supposedly hold the spoon on till inpact, when knocked loose and fuse burns...

History tidbit: My dad's "yearbook" from early 1953 at Camp Roberts has a couple pics of grenade launching with the Garand. The DI is live firing...standing...rifle on shoulder...in an exaggerated posture leaning into the rifle. They were not using that older device you guys were using. They had a whole billboard of the many specialty grenades with the tail section built into the grenade. So one piece unit.
That airburst was pretty fucking dope.
You should this again but have a huge sheet of paper or a bunch of card board to see and compare the spread of fragments
Very very nice. These WW2 rifle grenades are so cool. It figures that the day you choose to fire the live grenade, the wind decides to be 20knots gusting 40 🤣 if there’s one weapon you don’t want a strong headwind with, it’s this. Great job guys!
You can get the maximum range by firing any projectile at a 45 degree angle relative to the horizontal. The M-1 grenade launcher had a sighting device that came with it, that made that functional.

In ww2 most soldiers didn't even bother using it once they got good and started air bursting the grenades on the enemies
How this channel hasn't taken off yet is beyond me, this is phenomenal content.
Man, when you hear “fragmentation grenade” you don’t really think of it like that. That’s a hell of a lot of fragmentation, and I love it
Some grenade firing adapters were designed to use live rounds. They had a bullet trap on the adapter.
This channel deserves more subscribers
Thank you. I really needed to see that. Damn, I think I understand the love of rifle grenades.
there was a grenade launcher sight that was mounted to the side of the stock when these were in use.

Sort of know how Y'all feel, when I fired my PIAT with the Non exploding practice round for the first time I couldn't not laugh, something about getting a toy working well that brings the giddy school girl out in people. God I hate wearing my battle rattle" You just earned yourself a like.
In 90's Yugoslav wars they used some invention like this, and it's mass produced, it's named "pijani Ustasha" in local slang ("Drunk Ustasha" on English. "Ustashas" are Croatian nationalists/extremists, and "Chetniks" are Serbian extremists/nationalists), it got that popular name from this story: in one battle between Ustashas and Chetniks, hand granates falled on Chetniks, from Ustashas side, but Ustashas positions was 300+ meters away from Chetniks, and than Chetniks wondered how someone can throw hand granate that far :S, and than Chetniks debated and concluded, those Ustashas must be drunk and on some heavy drugs wich gave them super powers to throw handd granates 300+ meters! otherwise that's not possible! LOL. I'm from ex-Yugoslavia, to be more precise i'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina, capital city of Sarajevo, that's how i know that, and believe me, that's 100% true story how that thing got name! xD. This is it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpOLmpJrqdO-hNY.html
To unload a Garand hold the stock with your left hand, & pull the charging handle back with your right hand (aka "karate chop" it) while cupping the receiver with your palm. When the bolt is all the way to the rear press the clip ejector button with your right thumb, and catch the clip in your right palm as it ejects. I used to own a Winchester manufactured M-1 (don't worry I still kick myself mentally when I think about it) I figured it out the first time I unloaded it, as it seemed to be the most logical way to safely unload it, and keep dirt out of the clip. Also the enblock clip will not hold together with less than 6 rounds. If the clip contains less than 6 rounds you will need to turn the rifle to the right as you retract the bolt and catch all of the rounds & clip in your right hand.

If you have a Yugo SKS 59/66 it was made to accept 22mm grenade launching systems (to include a Garand Grenade system). fun Fact.

@@Tombstone_Active The yugo system is more like a small missile mortar. It is launched the say way. A blank is used and you can set the mortar on the built-in device. Also, It is highly suggested that you use the ground to support the mortar firing. You can (for what I have read). but, it is not suggested.

Yes. Mortars are a very good example of indirect fire.
M1 grenade projection adapter attachment that was fitted on the M1 Garand bayonet lug m-7 . It has rings to set range @30-45deg. The cup was loaded with a Pineapple grenade and then the devise loaded on to the grenade attachment on the rifle. The four pronged launcher was designated as the M1. One of these prongs longer and has sleeve to hold the spoon.kept the arming lever from releasing. The unit was then placed on the 22 mm M7 grenade launcher attached to the M1 rifle's muzzle. The user then removed the grenade's safety pin and braced the rifle from a standing or kneeling position. The unit was launched by firing a high-powered blank from the rifle. Inertia caused the holder sleeve to shear off in flight, releasing the lever and arming the grenade. Unlike the m17, impact fuse. The grenade would then explode when its fuze ran out. The grenade's fuze (4.0 to 4.8 seconds) could detonate in mid-flight before it reached its target. However, this "airburst" effect was unofficially reported used to hit targets behind cover or in trenches.
Always wanted to see one of these work. Thank you! Not sure what the deal is with your attempt at bangs brother but it's time to shave the entire head.

I have one that I fire from a sks yugo. You must make sure the grenade paddle is in the notch, then pull the pin. When the grenade is launched and hits the dirt, it disconnects and the paddle flips off since the pin is pulled. It lights the fuse and then you have a couple of seconds. Or you can leave the paddle out of the notch, pull the pin and quickly launch to get an airburst. I just have dummy grenades so don’t get to see any fireworks
I came to the comments to say "So you're tellin' me there's a chance!" ... But I guess everyone beat me to it 😆
