@@tc5837 I’m sorry but Walter Orange might take exception to this statement because he sang just as many songs as Lionel Ritchie. Some big songs like Brick House, Nightshift, and Too Hot To Trott. I’m from Alabama home of The Commodores. I have my facts straight.

Commodores were a huge Alabama Funk ("Machine Gun", "Brick House", "Slippery When Wet") act on Motown in the 1970s. Over the years, though, it was often the Country-flavored ballads ("Sail On", "Easy", "Three Times a Lady", "Just to Be Close to You") written, sung, and produced by Lionel Richie that put them on the Pop charts. After a few years, he kinda started taking over the band, and they pushed back, inspiring him to begin his successful solo career in 1982. This was right before that. They had one major non-Lionel hit in 1985 with "Nightshift" (US#3), while Lionel Richie himself became one of the biggest recording acts of 1982-86 with an impressive string of 13 consecutive USTop10 singles (five of which went to US#1). He was huge. I recommend his hits "You Are", "Stuck on You", "Running with the Night", "Penny Lover", "My Love", and "Say You, Say Me". Really, they're all solid.

I actually met Lionel Richie once. I am an actor and I was working with a murder-mystery dinner company and we were doing a show at a very classy restaurant in W. L. A.. Lionel and his family were sitting at one of the tables. My character was sitting at one of the tables with my "wife" trying to act like part of the audience. Halfway through the show my "wife" gets "killed" and the detective stands me up to ask me some questions. I speak lovingly about my "late wife" and this time I ended it by saying "She was once...twice...three times a lady". I actually sang the last part of it. Lionel started laughing and banging on the table as I sang. After the show I went up to him and asked him if I owed any payment for singing his song and he just burst out laughing again.

The band's biggest hit singles are "Easy", "Three Times A Lady", "Sweet Love", "Just To Be Close To You", "Still", "Oh No", "Lady (You Bring Me Up)", "Sail On", "Nightshift", "Brick House", "Fancy Dancer", "Lady (You Bring Me Up)", "Too Hot ta Trot" etc. Lionel Ritchie went on to have a big solo career.

You guy did "Brick House", on which he didn't sing lead. But from the 80s on, he was the lead singer on most of their hit songs. "Three Times a Lady", "Easy", "Sail On", and "Still" all featured Lionel. Their 1985 song "Nightshift", came after Lionel went solo, but it's a GREAT song, as it was a tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, both of whom died in 1984.

The Commodores featuring Lionel Richie (before he went solo) are a rabbit hole of musical joy! From here, it's on to Brickhouse, Easy, Zoom, Sweet Love, Sail On, Too Hot to Trot, Just to Be Close to You, Slippery When Wet -- so many possibilities. Their hit 'Three Times a Lady' is an all-time love & romance/wedding song. Also, this is a very early music video (1981), just as videos were gaining popularity, which is partly why it's so simple.

I went the University of Alabama from 1977 to 1983. I had some friends from Tuskegee. We drove over to see the Commodores in '79. Paid $10 and they played from almost 4 hours. Brick House was an hour. 15 years later on Valentines Day I take my wife to see Lionel Richie in Mobile Al. Paid $75 a piece and he played for just over an hour.

The Commodores are just cool AF. So many great songs but I’m a sucker for their softer stuff where Lionel Richie just shines. “Still” “Three Times A Lady” “Sail On” “Easy”…. If I had to just request one of those it would be “Still”♥️

I think that's why Lionel Richie eventually left Commodores. Different musical interests. I love all those sugary sweet songs too. Together with the song Truly. Very soft and deep at the same time. Easy was probably their biggest hit. And Amber at 5:33 "It's so EASY to get lost". For me she can lose herself more often in songs by Lionel Richie 😉

Lionel Richie was with the Commodores before he went solo. Lionel Richie is one of the greats when he was with the Commodores and when he went solo. You can't go wrong with any of his music, in my opinion. When he was with the Commodores, he was the lead singer on many of their hits, but couple others in the band also saying lead in some of their songs.

They only made one studio album together ("Lucy Pearl"), but that Album was FIRE! and had many great tracks on it, including: "Dance Tonight" "Don't Mess With My Man" "Without You" "Lucy Pearl's Way" "Trippin'" "Lala"

The Commadores with lead singer Lionel Ritchie at the helm was an absolute hit maker. They are a part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Lionel went on to top the charts with his solo album, and the rest of the band had a hit the next year after Ritchie left. The Youth center dances where I held up the walls while everyone else danced were thumping with The Commadores, Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson, and Kool and the Gang. We were so lucky.
