One of the band members wife was on tour with them and complained of stomach pains, when they got home a week later the doctors informed her she had stomach Cancer and gave her @2 months to live. The next few nights he wrote the song with his wife by his side. Then he took it to the group and Lionel Richie sang it. That song had a deep meaning for the Commodores

So glad you finally reacted to this beautiful song. It's one of my favorites by The Commodores. Even more so once I discovered the meaning behind it. Ronald LaPread actually began composing this song after his wife, Cathy, was diagnosed with cancer. And was given 2 months to live. She was the inspiration for the song and even helped him with the melody. Ronald couldn't finish it so Lionel helped. To get the full story as told by Ronald you should check out Chicken Soup For the Soul: The Story Behind the Song. It's really worth reading. Thanks again for your reaction!❤

Yall hit the motherlode with this one. My family always played this song in the house when I was a child and I immediately latched onto it. The songwriting, arrangement and Lionel Richie are perfection! This is one of the best and I still play it at the cookout!

If you are interested in more songs along the lines of “A Boy Named Sue” or “The Cover of The Rolling Stone”, I’d like to suggest the song “Uneasy Rider” by The Charlie Daniels Band, if you liked “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” you will probably enjoy “Uneasy Rider” too! Have a wonderful evening everyone! 😀👍🏻 PS. I wanted to add another song that I think that you’d get a kick out of and I believe that you would love all the instruments and country flavor of this song, “Milkshake” by The Cleverlys, performed live at Pucketts. That video is available on KZread. Just look for The Cleverlys, Milkshake, live at Pucketts. I promise that it’s worth a watch and listen even if you don’t choose to react to it. 👍🏻

Thank you, thank you, thank you for THIS SONG!!!! This song is transportation to a place and space other than HERE. It is meant to be peaceful, bring peace and solace to those going through whatever one is facing. After decades of not hearing this song upon rediscovering this masterpiece last year I wept. It brought memories and an age of the 70s back to me. Thank you. 💫

I love watching you guys, especially at the beginning of a song, knowing what's coming. Thinking to myself, "They have no idea what they're in for". This one of those songs. From the name, to the introduction, you are lulled.. and then Zoom!!

I was a DJ in the 70’s when disco was huge. Towards the end of the night I would always play this song. The dance floor would be full of couples chilling out and just winding down in each others arms..

OMG! Love this song. I have seen the Commodores Live three times. I had all their music. Zoom always been my favorite. My Mother loved this song. She loved Lionel Richie's voice. She passed away on Dec 23, 2006 of bone cancer. This song makes me emotional. Love It though.

This is one of my favorites from The Commodores! Such a smooth track. Fergie actually did a sample of this song on her Duchess Album called "All that I've Got" back in 2006. It's also another great song paying homage to this original. I highly recommend everyone to give it a listen.

This song will always be special to me. When I was probably still in a car seat I remember my mother and her bf singing the zoom part with me. You know how kids love little novelty stuff like that in songs. This was the time of Michael Jackson Off The Wall. R&b music was on one. Please react to Can't Hide Love by Earth Wind and Fire, or Heartbreak Hotel by Jacksons or Don't Disturb This Groove by The System. Love the channel!
