Most people don't realize Lionel Richie is not the lead vocalist on "Brick House", Walter Orange, who alternated lead vocals with Richie is the lead singer on that song.

The Commodores sang Brick House. Everyone needs to listen to that at least one time in their life ! And I think he is PDC worthy ! This is when he went solo I think . I maybe wrong though.❤

There was a show called Lip Sync Battle with Jimmy Fallon, and somebody (Jason Derulo, maybe?) did Brick House, as if Rick James was the artist. Which is hilarious, because it totally feels like a Rick James joint.

Lionel is a masterclass lyricist. Spent many nights in the early 80’s waiting to hear his songs come on the radio, or calling the radio DJ to request a song and dedicate it to that certain special person out there

Lionel Richie could sing the Sears catalog.....and has always been AMAZING.....forever....I am 70 and will listen to anything he sings.

Truly or Hello is possibly PDC worthy. All his ballads have this same general tempo. His duo Endless Love with Diana Ross is probably his best love song aside from Lady.

I bought my aunt a cutting board with Lionel Richie’s likeness on it. It has “ Hello? Is it me you’re cooking for?” On it. 😂

70’s & 80’s had some of the most powerful written love songs of all time!

This hit hard. Been 20+ yrs. Hope she is happy.

I am so grateful to have grown up in time back then when songs were such crafted pieces of genius.

"Truly" is one the best songs he's done .

1) "Stuck On You" 2) "Say You, Say Me" 3) "Hello" 4) "Penny Lover" 5) "Truly". 6) "All Night Long" 7) "Endless Love" 8) "Running With The Night" 9) "Brick House" 10) "Easy" 11) "Lady"... Lionel Richie wrote the lyrics and composed the music to a multitude of #1 and top #10 songs on the record charts and wrote songs for other vocal artists. He was and stil is gifted and talented. Everyone played his songs in the 1970's and 1980's. I took my college girlfriend to a Commadors concert in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois in 1980. It was an enjoyable evening. Lionel is definitely worthy of being on your play list. You just have to listen to all his songs.

This one brings me right back to my teens😢it still hits as if I had some kind of soul crushing love that only a teenager thinks they could be feeling and that no one else ever felt😊

This song still gets me in the feels EVERY SINGLE TIME. I think it's that dramatic pause when he finally sings "still". Maybe because I've been there. But not really. When this song came out I was 11 and even then it broke my little heart.

Listening now to the music I used to listen to back then in my grade-school and preteen years, it's no wonder I felt like I'd never, ever get over every breakup I experienced. These songs kept the heartbreak alive and well way too long.

My favorite song by Lionel Ritchie. So beautiful. Such a gifted man.

I gotta wonder why The Commodore's song, "SWEET LOVE"! It always reminds me of my first crush ❤ I believe he had just gone out on his solo career.

great reaction. you actually need to have an extremely great control over your voice to sing this song and have it sound so smoothly and believe me when i say there are very few singers who can do it this good. in my honest opinion this song is one of the greatest songs ever made. the control of your voice and then he's playing the piano at the same time. this is true talent.

The best PDC candidate is probably Just to Be Close to You. Another well written (but sad) song is Oh No. As a bonus, it’s featured in a sad 80’s teen movie (The Last American Virgin).

Lionel is one of the greatest songwriters of my time. His album titled Truly - The Love Songs is one of my all-time favorites. But he wasn't the only lead singer in The Commodores. They were all great talents.

My opinion…one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Lionel’s cassettes were all in my car, played to death! LOL

Okay, you had me cracking up to the point of crying when talking about the sideburns. Sweetie, it's mutton chops, not pork chops. I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen's books and movies. They take place in the Georgian era when mutton chops were worn. Since you are so young, I'm impressed that you knew them to be some kind of chops. Thank you for your reactions to songs. I can’t remember how many times I slow danced to this song! Lucky enough to have seen them live while in college at Mississippi State!

When this song came out in college all you had to do was play it in your dorm with the young ladies and Lionel took care of everything else!!!

BRITT! All the Commodores could sing. There were times when others sang lead as well but Lionel was the Heart and Soul of the Commodores. But you also have to remember that this song "Still" features Lionel because all he needed was a piano and his voice. I subscribed for two reasons. One, I love your dimples, smile, and personality. The other reason is I wanted you to react to the Force MD's song "Tender Love"! You are going to absolutely love this song and it's ICONIC!

Since 1974 they had 4 top albums in a row (that I like) - first album "Machine Gun" (instrumental song) is still my favourite with Assembly Line and Human Zoo. The Commodore were on Motown-Label and had all band members singing - especially Thomas McClary. Brick House was often played in a row with Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music - a real floorshaker.

Early Commodores were very funky! Brickhouse and Too Hit to Trot were my favorites! Sail On is a great ballad. Lionel is definitely PDC worthy.

ZOOM -- and don't let the name deceive you. IMO It's The Commodores BEST and most underrated song.

Earth, Wind and Fire would be a great band to check out as well!

I remember listening to “Oh No” by the commodores when I was a teenager! It’s a heartbreak song, it’s about loving someone who doesn’t love you back

i knew that was Lionel from the very first note...so smooth and rich

This is a beautifully real song …I’ve always loved it✨

The Commodores started out as a funk band and later on turned toward ballads. . Some of the early and later songs you might like include Sweet Love, Just To Be Close To You, Easy, Brick House, High On Sunshine, Three Times A Lady, This Is Your Life, Old Fashioned Love and Jesus Is Love.

Back in the late 70s early eighties I pretty much listened to country. But I had my commodore and earth wind and fire, Aretha, and some R&B vinyls in the pile.

Easy by the Commodores and Endless Love duet with Diana Ross!

“You Mean More To Me” from his first solo album. I used it the first to tell her I loved her. It was our wedding dance song. She’ll hear it again August 9, 37 years and counting❤❤❤!

Check out "Hello", "Stuck on You" and "Dancing on the Ceiling." Also check out his duet with Diana Ross of "Endless Love." After he left the Commodores, he had a great solo career and has won 4 Grammy awards. He also still tours!!

Just to be Close to You by the Commodores also when Lionel wrote a love song he usually sang it You would also like Jesus is Love which the Commodores usually closed their concerts with.

This near his departure from the Commodores. They were not liking the ballads and slower songs that Lionel was having great success with. They wanted to focus on more upbeat rock and R&B stuff.

In the Commodores Band, Mr. Richie played the Saxophone and the piano. He sung lead on some songs and also did background vocals when others sang lead. The band started in the late 60's when a group of Tuskegee institute students (one of which was Lionel Richie) got together and formed the band. He broke out from the band in the early 80s, after he and Diana Ross sung the song "Endless Love" for the movie. I love the Commodore songs: Just Want to be Close to You, Jesus is Love, 3 times a Lady, Easy, Sail On and Brick House... just to name a few.😊 I just saw Earth, Wind and Fire and Lionel Richie in concert in DC earlier this year. It was a real treat!🤩😊

The Hairstyle and Wardrobe was his Commodore Look and he still performing with them (but getting to play his own solo songs), but the moment he officially went Solo he had a complete Make-over and re-branding done.
