I was a mismatched towel house for 25 years. When my son was home on a college break, he surprised me while I was at work by replacing them with plush, new matching towels. I know it's silly, but it makes me happy to open my bathroom closet now and see matching, fluffy towels!

Just did my linen closet last week, feels so good when it's neat and orderly and easy to see everything. Some trivia, in Australia, and New Zealand, we call these items collectively "manchester". Origin is that the city of Manchester in England was the centre of the cotton spinning industry and was the main source of bedding for the early settlers in Australia and New Zealand. Department stores have Manchester Departments.

You have given my daughter the decluttering bug! She’s three and a half. Yesterday we watched your books video together and she wanted to go through her books together and chose half a dozen to donate. Today she went through her towels and wash clothes all by herself, found a few things, then moved on to her bath toys! Of course she’s choosing to keeping most of the stuff, she’s three, but she’s working her little decluttering muscles! 💪 💕

I have been a subscriber for ages but I believe this is the first time I have commented. I am 74 years old and live on the Texas Gulf Coast near Houston/Galveston. I am finding I am not able to do some of the deep cleaning I once could do. I do love having a clean and organized house and my house is always very neat. I was thinking I did not have much clutter since I do zone cleaning and am constantly decluttering. I am on a mission to not leave my girls a lot to deal with later. I have to tell you that I am so enjoying this series and it is helping me be more “brutal” in my decisions to get rid of things. Today I got rid of tons of linens that were very well hidden in some decorative bins in my Linen closet. I looked at those things and thought about why I was keeping them. Out they went! YAY! I also went through my dish towels etc. I did the junk drawer the first day but didn’t do the books etc yesterday. Hope to catch up on that. I just wanted to thank you for this series and tell you how much I have enjoyed all your content. Blessings to you and your sweet family.

I don’t have a linen closet, but still have plenty of linens I can make some decluttering progress on. Our three bedroom house had exactly three closets - one in each bedroom. When we switched from a traditional hot water heater to a tankless one, I was able to add three small shelves in that space to give me a little bit more storage. After living here for more than 20 years, thanks to KZread decluttering help and inspiration, I was finally able to fit my vacuum into that space; I was so excited I shared it as a joy with other women at church! 😂 Thank you for your wonderful inspiration; you’re a joy and a blessing! 💕

Now that we have downsized, I keep our linens on an over-the-john shelf in our master bathroom, and it has very limited space. I never even thought of that and we constantly deal with huge towers of towels and washcloths being everywhere due to little hands not being able to reach them properly and wanting to help. Now that they’ll be able to reach them they can learn how to fold them back up(to the best of their ability) and put them back!!! You’re such a lifesaver! I’ve also had the dilemma of cleaners under the sink and a baby lock but now the older kiddos can open it and forget to close it! Thanks to you we don’t harsh cleaner supplies down there but it’s still a huge mess to clean up lol

It feels good to get the linen closet organized and get rid of some of those extra towels and blankets that are taking up space and not being used!

Animal shelters are often grateful to get worn linens to use for bedding for their guests.

I usually drop any old towels and sheets off at the local animal shelter. They are always in need and it doesn’t matter is the sheets have seen better days, they can keep a pup warm rather than going in the trash 💜

We just donated a ton of old ripped & stained towels to our local animal shelter. We also donated some cleaning supplies that we no longer used. They were thrilled to get it all.

We used to call it a "double bed" also, same with "single bed". Now we say full size and twin size. I've gone through my bedding and towels several times in the past, but I must admit that my cleaning rag cabinet is much more organized than my lined cabinet and drawer!

Wow how good it feels I decluttered 11 older towels, 8 kitchen hand towels, and a whole set of frontroom curtains that I’ll never use again!! This is going to be a wild month I can tell already~sure hope I can keep motivated to “let go”…I needed to go through my blankets(🤦🏻‍♀️) maybe I will do that on top of tomorrow’s task! Thanks for doing this Steph😊

I like how simple you keep it! I know it can be overwhelming to spring clean because its more cleaning on top of your daily cleaning but 5 minutes here and there really helps! Thanks for all the tips, I especially like how you try to reuse or really use something up before making the decision to toss anything! I keep things till its really worn and still use it or donate if possible to reduce waste.I find it helps with many of my compulsions surrounding cleaning and ocd as well. I love how you say goodbye to things you get rid of too, thats another thing us recovering hoarders do ....It really helps to not hold on to things and its ok to let go and say goodbye :)

I recently decluttered my linens too. I found out there’s an Amish community that will accept all linens, even ratty or stained items b/c they rip them apart and make “rag rugs” and sell them. Totally a win/win and such a cool “green” option 🙂

Finally got rid of sheets, worn towels, and tablecloths and matching napkins. No longer have that size table. Will be carrying anything usable to the Salvation Army tomorrow. Really enjoying the challenges so far.

Love that you kept things that were still good and didn't just toss and replace. I totally get that it's so nice to have a cohesive look but it's really sad how so many of us treat everything as disposable!

Being the only one in the house, I probably have too much of all kinds of linens so I plan to purge today and at least spend 15 min decluttering linens. Thanks Secret Slob!

Steph, thank you for your help. I am a lot like you. So comforting to know that other people are like me, thank you for sharing. I sometimes wonder why I have kept some stuff when decluttering. It’s exciting when getting rid of stuff that I don’t use anymore. Your videos are a blessing to me.🥰

I had a plethora of linens in the kitchen and bathroom, and I finally realized I only use a limited amount: • In the kitchen, one terry cloth dishtowel + one linen dishtowel + one dishcloth in use, plus another set to swap out when those go in the laundry • In the bathroom, two bath towels + two hand towels + eight washcloths so I have enough to last week before I do laundry. I hang up the clean ones when the used ones go in the hamper. • In the bedroom, I always put my sheets right back on the bed after washing, so I don't need to store any elsewhere. This works for me as a single person who does laundry once a week.

I used to have mismatched towels, but later went matchy matchy. I reeeeeally love the streamlined look. So tidy! Isn't it just the best feeling to get rid of things and see empty shelves and empty drawers? Feels fantastic! Great video as always! 😊

I love the fact that linens are so easy to repurpose. Going to an animal shelter or clinic, the rag bin, as paint cloths (like you mentioned) and one of my favorites, being used in stitching projects. I love collecting and using vintage tea towels for that purpose!😀

I identify with wanting matching towels, but settling for mismatched. That is one of the things I want to replace once my kids are grown and I don't have to worry about possible grips or stains etc. Thank you for the decluttering motivation!

Something that has helped me is not keeping any spare sheets. We wash the pair on the bed and put them right back on. I know some people say what if you have a middle of the night situation??... and my kids are getting older and knock on wood this hasn't happened but if it did....beach towels work in a pinch. Also we don't have a linen closet in our current house so I definitely can't justify spare sheets! Thank you again for this series:)

I grabbed a packet of coordinating blue hand towels when we moved into our house almost a year ago. The kitchen was blue, not my choice, but I wasn't going to paint it any time soon. So I embraced the blue and bought new hand towels to make it feel nice. And a blue rug for in front of the sink. 👍🏻

I have SIX towels now, one for each family member. got matching towels about 2 years ago and it makes me so happy to open the closet door now and see it all nice and neat and beautiful. You guys don’t need a lot of bath towels, it’s worth it to let go of the extras.
