Line6 DL4 MKII | The Legend Returns

Музыка

Its been 22 years since the release of the original Line6 DL4 delay, and in that time it became one of the most popular delay pedals of all time. Today the second iteration of this pedal hits the market, but how does it compare to the original?

@@Iccapod the delays in the m13 never did sound as good to me as even the mk1 DL4. Also $299 is not a bad price difference brand new for this update, when you adjust for inflation. The mk1 went for $249. The equivalency of $249 in 2005 would be about $350 today, so it was actually priced pretty fairly.

What Rhett is missing is, it is all in how the DL4 (and looks like the DL4 MKII) acted and lays itself out in performance and music making on stage or in the studio. Those of us who fell in love with them and used them to great effect in the early 2000s know that you could make the most mangled and amazing sounds and moments with the looper and the action of the knobs and such. The stuff we use now sounds more algorithmic to me in some ways, sort of curated, while the OG DL4 was like a tool, sometimes a loose cannon but also a beautiful paintbrush to make music with.

As a long time DL-4 enthusiast o agree with you 100%. I have consistently had at least two DL-4s on my board at any given time for years. I’ll definitely be grabbing the new one and will probably get another one eventually if it’s as awesome as it looks from what I’ve seen so far.

  • @stevethebeeline44

Completely agree! Two words, Dave Knudson. He puts the DL4 loopers to such epic creative musical manoeuvres that would only ever be possible with the way the DL4 looper is laid out. I completely copied his 3xDL4 and a timeline and the three loopers going with reverse, half speed, recorded at half speed and then to standard time for double speed, then reversed! The auto trigger feature! Now with MKII all the reverbs included, along with longer looping time and an SD Card for storing those loop, before they were lost when powered off. Smaller size, yes. Fantastic update to the DL4. Yeah the Line6 delays are all in the helix line but that's just the delay engines. It's how the DL4 drives and hugs the road that makes the difference. User experience of DL4 MKII vs Hx Stomp, very different beasts. There's millions of DL4 fans around the world, I'd say this will sell very well for Line6. Oh and programming an expression pedal is a complete breeze compared to other delay pedals.

@@cmcguitarsandeffects2075 yeah what Dave K does is such an inspiration! I grabbed Ableton thinking I’ll get creative with looping and being a Cubase user for 20yrs+ struggled to get going with a new DAW. With x3 DL4’s looping within minutes had some wild soundscapes going. Zero obstacles to creativity with the DL4, bonehead simple which is just what I need! It really is up there with classics like Fuzzface & Wah. I’ll defo grab a MKII. Must check out Dave K’s solo stuff now. 👍

I had one of the originals and it was fun, especially since it was my first experience with a looper. However, it was the only piece of gear I've ever bought that didn't work, brand new out of the box, and had to be sent for repair under the warranty. And it's the only pedal that I ever owned that started to have problems within the first year of owning it (the knobs would stick if there was the slightest amount of humid weather, and two out of the four switches stopped working altogether). I have to say, I own a Zoom MS70CDR now, and it absolutely slays the Line 6 for less than half the price.

The MKII's smaller size is a big plus imo. I've never had any of the common issues people have or one give up on me despite stomping on them and turning the knobs aggressively but hopefully the new ones are really built like tanks and have addressed some of the past issues as well.

It’s always interesting to me when the same topic shows up at the same time on multiple YT channels that I follow. Today, Reverb also is covering this Line 6 pedal. Cool.

That's because this products have an embargo on when channels can release their videos (remember they get them early). An all of them want to be first one to get the views

I like the more experimental music you are making 👍🏻👊🏻 that intro song was really nice. You should make more music like that 😃👊🏻

Wait... $499? I’ll just keep using the mk1 for looping.

The hx stomp is cool but have in mind how quickly you were able to dial tones and get inspired. On the hx stomp sometimes you have to dig in the menus and stuff to get something out. I love this update

I think it's really cool. An updated classic. A bit pricey maybe (but it does a lot too.) It might be good in the effects loop of my Headrush. I've always liked the Line 6 verbs and delays.

I see Sweetwater has it for $299. I think that puts it under Strymon, Empress, etc cost wise. Also, I think the smaller size gives it a slight advantage over hx effects.
