Ryan "Fluff" Bruce just did a video where he explained how while on tour in Europe with his band Dragged Under they realized their equipment did not arrive from Seattle to the UK and he was able to prove it to the airline because he had AirTags in every case.

Prove what? That his bags didn't arrive. Don't they believe you about stuff like that? I mean if you haven't actually got your bags, isn't that proof enough?

I’ve tried all kinds of “old man” straps since I injured both shoulders years ago. Walter Trout (also bad shoulders) his strap, and they don’t work for me. I use the Robben Ford (also old guy) style of strap. Pelican are excellent. I have a Mono bag for my pedalboard, and it’s held up exceptionally well. I always carry an overdrive and reverb pedal in my carry-on. In the same pouch as my prescription meds.

I love these practical videos, I'm not a pro musician, but I relate. I'm a road geologist and travel with a bunch of expensive gear. I employ the strategies you do to make sure I have what I need on the road (remote drilling sites in northern Canada). I have a motto: "if you don't bring it, you won't have it". Sounds kinda dumb and obvious, but when the nearest store is a 2 hour drive from the "office", it pays to keep it in mind. When it comes to certain personal items (toothbrush, razor, etc): I have two of each, and my toiletries never get unpacked. Including a supply of prescription meds I can't do without. I have a wellsite guitar too, stays in case, grab 'n go. I also built a secure garage so I never have to unload my equipment from the pick 'em up truck. Learned something new from this one, the r.f.i.d. tags, I'm searching already. LOL.

The problem with AirTags is if someone takes your bag, and they have an iPhone on their person, the phone will alert them that they are being tracked by an AirTag. So they will know it’s there. This is because people were unscrupulously hiding AirTags on people and following them.

It was interesting seeing all your stuff for your tour dates. These days I just play local gigs every weekend. I didn't see any pick supply in your gear. I always carry a couple of small personal flashlights. Other things I always bring for a gig is a cloth or two for the stage to wipe the guitar if necessary or to quickly wipe up a spill plus I bring manicure equipment with me to a gig. It can drive me crazy at a gig to try and play if one nail happens to be a little too long or cracked or a ragged edge. Also sealed moistened towelletes are handy if you quickly need to clean off your hands and can't get to a nearby sink.

Hey Rhett- thanks for this. Super helpful. How do you get the foam cut custom for the pelican case?

I'd love to see a tutorial video on how you record the audio for the live shows. I am considering getting a nice recorder like the Tascam. Do you plug it into FOH mixer, or just straight from the Tascam? Or both?

Agree Deoxit is essential. Saves plenty to trips to repair shop for one thing. (Strangely many musicians seem not to realize dirt, dust & oxidation accruing over time are things.)

Great video, and great setup man! If you’re at all interested in selling the benders from the mulecaster I’d buy them from you. I love mine on my mulecaster, but matt doesn’t sell them separately anymore and I’d love to have a set for another guitar.

The most excellent info. Total gear covetness! On another note, Have you ever noticed that you never really have command or know a song until you played it so many times are absolutely sick to death of it? Maybe it’s just me lol

I play a resonator, and I taped an airpod under the coverplate! Cannot exchange sentimental value for anything!

Solid setup. I would add a few choice items. A tube of Big Benz Nut Sauce. A little in each nut slot and the saddle V's and you will improve tuning stability and reduce string breakage. A String Stretcha. It's a plastic stick with a hook and heel on one end. Tune a new string up to pitch, run the Stretcha up and down a few times, check your tune and it will be a whole step lower. It stretches a new string in 30 seconds so you go on stage with stable strings. I know it sounds corny and gimicky, but once you use it, you will come to depend on it. And last but certainly not least is a Snark clip on tuner. I know there's a ton of tuning apps, pedals and other clip ons. But the Snark is super accurate, very high visibility and inconspicuous. You can tune silently, in a noisy room where your phone app will pick up transients, and in the dark. For $20, that's cheap

Very helpful vid. Regarding power, I wonder if there's a good power conditioner that's suited for traveling? I use a Monster 3500 at home and it's greatly improved the signa/noise ratio of all manner of audio gear. For travel it's big heavy overkill. Something effective with 6 outlets in an enlarged power strip format would be great.

Hey Rhett! With that Tascam recorder. Where do you typically place it for a decent live gig sound? Cheers mate.
