Limited Resources 604 - Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Set Review: Common and Uncommon

Ойындар

This week on Limited Resources Marshall and Luis do the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Set Review: Commons and Uncommons! We’re back to traditional two-color pairs but with a big twist that Luis loves and Marshall needs explained to him: Dungeons & Dragons! This heavily themed set packs a ton of references to D&D but also seems to be a deep and overlapping format on top of that. The guys walk you through all of the commons and uncommons in the set.

I'm really late on this but the owner of "Split the party" gets to choose which cards bounce as it doesn't say "the controller" or "the owner" + " of the creatures". Basically if a spell or ability doesn't define another player then it is always the controller of the spell or ability (tho be careful when it comes to activated "enchantment - aura" abilities as they usually don't have the ability themself but instead gives the permanent they are attached to the ability)

I don't know if it was considered during the grading, but Split the Party has great synergy with the blue removal (Ray of Frost and Charmed Sleep). Locking down one or two creatures and then bouncing the rest can be ridiculous. Shouldn't be too hard to line up either.

Giving Ingenious Smith an F will prove to be really, really off. Not only will the equipment deck happily run 6+ equipments, but you also have Cloister Gargoyle and Iron Golem, some of the best artifact creatures you could hope for. If you have 10 artifacts in your deck, Ingenious Smith is clearly a B+ tier card.

The fact Mordenkainen's Polymorph gives flying can be pretty useful, it's not much of a downside on your opponent's creatures because you can do it after blocks, and making like a bear into a 4/4 flyer is pretty powerful, it also works well with double strike and equipment. I think it's at least a D, if not a C.

the problem is that the card just looks at the top 4 cards. so you need 10 artifacts in your draft deck to see 1 artifact on average. but even more to trigger it most of the time and get a lot of counters on him. you can't put to much equip in your deck & the common/uncommon non-equip artifacts are mostly trash.

I have been very unimpressed with the dungeons... granted, I haven't really gotten them to really pay off in a handful of drafts. They really fall flat compared to lessons and especially contraptions. I think they just ended up watered down. It is a really cool mechanic and I really like the idea. I would like to see more dungeons released in the future, especially once R&D gets some feedback and can make them more relevant without being BrOko. Building an EDH deck around dungeon crawls would be a blast for sure. That would be a ridiculously fun deck to pilot.

Is the Bulette the worst designed D&D creature in this set? The original D&D Bulette was 10'-12' long, had 9HD with an Armor Class of -2 (I believe that's equivalent to 22). Their front feet hit for 3d6 and their bite does 4d12 and their special attack is that they can jump 8' into the air with blinding speed attacking with all 4 feet, each doing 3d6 damage. Lastly, it's not a Beast, it's a Land Shark. To not put this as Creature Type Land Shark seems to me to be the most egregious error. So here's how I would've designed it: Bulette: 5/7 for Mana Cost 3GG. Vigilance. When it blocks or is blocked, you may tap it to give it double strike. What do you all think?

You Find the Villains Lair is definitely not a D. I'm not saying it's better than a C but LSV has always said two mediocre effects in one generally makes a decent card and I think that's the case here. It's a counter spell that cycles to shape your hand, sure it's technically card disadvantage but it's not hard to pitch some lands and turn them into real cards.

When a card says to "put an additional +1/+1 counter on a creature when it enters the battlefield," does that mean creatures only get the counter IF they already were receiving a +1/+1 counter? I assumed it worked that way, but the way Luis talks about the mechanic makes it seem all creatures you control that enter the battlefield receive the +1/+1 counter. I thought the word 'additional' being included in the text means it only works for creatures already receiving a counter when they enter the BF.

It just means put a counter on when it enters. Wizards updated the wording on that back around 2008.
