When they said it was slow they probably said it considering it ticks up on every upkeep because you dont get any payoff until 6 turns after u cast it, and since ur trying to catch up on board its hard to dump more mana into it.

I had a 4 hour car ride today and you guys made it fly right by!

I had a Midnight Clock, a Stolen by the Fae and Rowan and Will in a sealed pool at Pre-release, and those three cards together were enough to win a large percentage of games.

I feel like on Stormfist Crusader while talking about how odd the symmetrical draw is, they glossed over the fact that since it's on your turn it will always activate your "draw your second card" abilities but not your opponents. Having your Mad Ratter and Bloodhaze Wolverine always active seems nice.

2:01:00 it’s hilarious to think that they gave Oko an A and still massively underrated him. I mean, you will pick him over Jace The Mind Sculptor in vintage cube now.

Midnight clock says put a counter on each upkeep. Does that include opponents upkeep?

Sure does...this card is actually absurd, because the draw 7 is usually 4-5 turns. Also you can cast some adventure cards and hold them in exile to have even more refill after the clock strikes.

1:59:00 Oko, thief of Crowns. Looking back, it's hilarious to see how much of an A grade was an underestimate of the card.

All i can say is more people need to listen to this podcast, watch it, etc. people really have no clue what they've been missing out on.

took down a player that had The Great Henge and Garruk in the same deck at the pre-release...one game he had gained at least 30 life through Food, The Great Henge, Witch's Oven(which works nicely with the Great Henge to boost 3 toughness creatures to 4 for Oven) and Revenge of Ravens...he gained so much life and I had to attack him so many times that Revenge of Ravens did 22 damage did to me, only surviving because of a Food token...it was a pretty insane game...

as I'm watching this, i'm turn 3ing foilio of fancy's. and the 1 blue ferie mill in combo with this means you win VERY FAST, this card... is INSANE in draft.

Kinda off topic, but Wishclaw Talisman seems great in a Ashiok, Dream Render oathbreaker deck.

Probably what Bonecrusher Giant's name reminds you two of is Fleshpulper Giant.

Wishclaws best case is use it find bounce faire bounce it back from opponent to your side.

How did they have the balls to make Bonecrusher Giant cost 2 and a red? It's so blatantly undercosted.

I agree w/ LSV on Fae of Wishes; 2 (U) effects stapled together is a (R), not a (M); and 2 (R) effects stapled together is (R) or (M), easy.

1:24:00 - I don't think Questing Beast interacts with protection in that way: Protection doesn't prevent damage that would be dealt because that requires the damage to be assigned first; correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure "can't be dealt damage" means damage doesn't even get assigned. Therefore, the Questing Beast can deal with abilities on cards like Oathsworn Knight, but not with cards like Archon of Absolution.

You are, in fact, wrong about this. Protection stops the damage from happening by preventing it, so abilities like the one on Questing Beast or on the Stomp half of Bonecrusher Giant mean that creatures with protection from X can be dealt damage by the things they normally have protection from.

@@redryghthand just looked up 702.16 on the Comprehensive Rules. I understand how it gets around prevention on that way. However, while Stomp says that damage can't be prevented, I don't think it would get around protection, because you'd have to target it first.

@@Wittastical Right, sorry if I was too ambiguous there, you can't target a creature with Pro Red using Stomp, but you could cast it with a different target and then that effect would come into play. Say, for instance, your opponent blocked your red creature with a Cerulean Drake, if you cast Stomp targeting your opponent before the damage step your red creature would then be able to deal damage to the drake.

Cauldron of Eternity seems like a card that derails a draft unless you get other good payoffs for graveyard synergies.

I think Robber of the Rich having reach because he's an archer is post hoc analysis. I think the designers gave him reach because it requires reach to get valuables out of other people's pockets. ;)

I enjoy these review videos, but the amount of ads is very off-putting. I'm getting an ad every 10mins or so, which isn't so bad if I'm actively at my computer watching, but if I'm in the car listening while I drive, it's quite annoying to have so many ads come up.

Lost to Garruk 2 games in a row (2 different opponents/decks) in my first sealed. Good way to turn you off a set. Cards like this ruin the best aspects of limited for me.

Cauldron of Eternity is straight up bad. The format is too fast and aggressive for it. I played a Dimir control shell with it in sealed. I had tons of self mill support for it, a great pay-off in Syr Konrad and a Gadwick. I was only able to cast this iceberg once and by the time i cast it i was on 4 life and grasping at straws. I lost the game the next turn. Speaking of Gadwick and other cards that require 3 colours of mana to get value, I found the mana restrictions extremely awkward. More often than not, my special lands came in tapped for no value, my Vantress Paladin was a four mana 2/2 flyer and my Clockwork Servant was a 3 mana vanilla 2/3. Gadwick was great, but I had 2 games where I couldn't cast him because i didn't draw a third U land. This format is weird for control - it's probably better in draft because you can main 1 colour and splash for a second but I found control awful to play in sealed.

Sealed is always a shitshow. I think draft will be a good format, pretty slow.

Stormfist crusader is not a C+, it's a solid B provided you're an aggressive deck which is what BR is doing anyway. LSV just has zero appreciation for nuanced, aggressive cards because all he cares about is blue or grindy value stuff. An aggressive deck can easily run out of fuel so it getting cards is much more powerful than the opponent getting cards AND it pressures their life total.

I just went undefeated at prerelease. I played dimir splashing red for stormfist crusader, unlikely alliance and loch dragon. Playing against knights my opponent used removal on the crusader saying “you’re drawing enough cards already”. Maybe he was just wrong but I can kinda see why. Having a full grip of cards all the time is sweet and he was desperate to keep me from having a lot of things to do and making fairy tokens every turn.

@@Patrick-bu2uh I'm sure he respects aggressive decks in general. But if you've been listening to these set reviews for a while you must have noticed how B level aggro cards very often get lower grades whereas niche, fun, blue value cards get overrated like Enigma Drake. They never make a caveat that a card like stormfist crusader is 100 times better than a divination in the right deck which is going to be every deck in it's colors.

It's probably great in RB aggro but I'm not first picking this card over good removal or a decent number of uncommons. Opening this shouldn't push you into that deck unless your pack is really bad.

@@Cthuski That's true for almost all dual colored cards. But if it were monoblack you'd first pick it in a heartbeat unless there was premium removal in the pack and that makes it a B. Because if you've picked 2 red cards and see it you're probably taking it.
