Hearing Marshall talking about how nice it is that *some* Plot cards can be plotted on 2 when Foretell offered this advantage on literally every card with that keyword feels like a psyop. I think the point LSV makes about Foretell putting the card facedown is relevant but that to me seems more of a problem if there are too few Foretell cards where you have the impression that you should know what it is even though it's facedown. If there's enough of a critical mass of these then it becomes simply a different kind of hidden information which is core to playing Magic already. I guess I really like Foretell and it's far less liable to broken interactions that Plot which lets a card be 0 cost even with advance payment. If anything hearing Marshall speaking about Morph and it's several iterations just brought home to me how odd it is that we got a Ward 2 effect on the newer form of this mechanism instead of simply making them 2 mana for a 2/2 neutral Bear that can flip which would make more sense.

50:26 While I think this is fair evaluation of Necrobloom I think Marshall slipped up saying this in general terms considering Satya is one of the best rares in the format and because Jeskai is actually the Energy part of the colour pie it's always splashable in any of the respective colour pairings. The Esper one, Arna, is also quite strong. Admittedly it's not something you will often be in the seat to play but if you're already making a WB deck that has Modify synergies it's definitely worth splashing Blue for. Unfortunately Dimir isn't really positioned for it though.

@51gunner9 күн бұрын
I think it depends on what you're removing - I think removing the 2-mana creature or less is the better play? If you remove something big on their side of the board this thing is going to either be very worth double-blocking, or be the big removal check. Maybe its real role is to eat removal so your 5+ mana bomb after it doesn't get the removal. If you remove something small I think that's better because your coyote is then much closer to hitting the vanilla test. I think its real job is to top the curve of what looks like a pretty aggressive red/white aggro deck in the format. Push your opponent's life total early, then slam this to take out an important blocker that might have stabilized them. I know there'll be games that end after it resolves.

While listening to Marshall I completely didn't understand how he wasn't getting it. We had this card in MoM but it was only really playable because it had Phyrexian synergies and it Plainscycled. If this had been a 4/5 with no counter it would be a lot better, but as is it's use is narrow in current limited. The Annex Sentry was so good because the only real decks in that format were RG monsters (so this snagged the few mana dorks that slowed that deck down) or toxic (which this easily blocked most of the relevant creatures) and it cost 3. This is not a 2 for 1. Because they get the creature back they just spend a removal spell and it's a straight 1 for 1, with possible downside if you snagged a creature with an etb. People pretty regularly don't like the 5 mana removal spells and this is frequently worse because it gives your opponent options. And even worse because this is plays more like a tempo card and 5 mana for tempo removal is overcosted.
