I feel like he was very personal in this album. The line “can’t go running back to home can’t face her face” is him talking about his relationship with his mom. If you listen to dead right now knowing this it takes a really dark, sad turn and I’m sorry that he didn’t have a supporting maternal figure in his life. Amazing album!

This has to be one of his deepest tracks. It’s funny how sometimes when artists make deep songs and put them on an album, they’re the songs that are the least popular. This is such a fantastic song. I listened to it non-stop during a depressive episode at the end of last year, when it comforted me in my mental illness. Even if the lyrics are very sad, I find the instrumental parts quite lively and they were sometimes the only glimpse of light in my day. Weirdly, since I listened to this in December, it also gives me slight Christmas vibes. And these days, I am doing okay on average and I came back to this song again. Generally, I love his album, how it has accompanied me through some of the worst and the best moments in my life this year and how he refuses to be put in a box regarding his music. This is definitely one of my favourite tracks from the album. The melody is beautiful especially with the chorus. Lil Nas’ electrifying voice really stands out when he sings the chorus with so much soul. I absolutely love the utilisation of his vocals and the soothing vocables near the end. This is an absolute banger of a track. Really nice looking mini visuals too.

This song, to me, feels like it sums up the experience of coming from a dysfunctional single-parent family, and then that feeling of rejection from my mom after being outed to her (and finally having me affirming the fact); that moment I understood that I could no longer go to her for kindness and comfort after having had such a close relationship; those years afterwards of drifting in sorrow and hardship knowing that I could not return to face her and have her see me as her loving son again, while at the same time keeping some inkling of hope and faith that things would be alright as I learned to live my own life far and away. The lyrics in this song reached way too deeply; this album is simply a masterpiece. Montero, Lil Nas X, young people like you give me so much hope for the future. I don't really know you, but I feel so damned proud of you! May you continue to make your wonderful music for years to come. Congratulations on your album.

Nas, hands down, this is my favorite song from the album. The instrumentation of this song is so right and the story that is being told in the lyrics is something that hits home. This is a masterpiece and I really hope that this song isn't slept on.
