Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal Jetstrobe

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video features my Federal Signal Jetstrobe, which made its cop-car debut in 1992. Similar in physicality to the Jetstream, this bar features strobe lights as the primary warning lights, with halogen flashers as supplementary warning lights. This particular bar also had a single white rotator in the middle, but I decided to make that a fixed unit, and turned it into a single Takedown light.
Fun Fact: In this video, there are actually two different strobes patterns that are featured; a slower one that alternates the red and blue strobes, and a faster one that is a bit more random/chaotic. Can you spot the moment where the pattern changes?

Awesome video of that bar! I have an Aerodynic 22i and when I power it up, it rotates slow and the lights are dim. When I switch the wires around, the rotators work normally but the lights do not come on. Do you have any suggestions to why this is? Thanks

I have a couple questions: 1. What are you powering the bar with? An Aero is going to be pretty close to 40amps or more, depending on the model you have. Slow spinning and dim lights sound like the bar is being underpowered. 2. When you switch the wires around, do the rotators start spinning in the opposite direction as they did originally? This could be a grounding issue.

@@AdamsLights the light it powered by a Stanley jump starter. I’ve used it on some other light bars and they have operated as they should. Each motor for the rotator and the light paired with it has one black wire and one red wire that come together like a “Y” with a connector at the end. I’ll have to see if it rotates the opposite way and let you know.

What I noticed about strobe light is that they seem to be barely visible in the day except for at night or inside. Why is that ?

Hey James. It's actually not so much that they aren't visible; It's that their rate of flash is not compatible with the refresh rate of the camera. The Human eye can see all of the flashes, but the camera simply can't pick it up because of how the rolling shutter works. In real life they are actually quite bright- unfortunately it is just very hard to capture with a camera. Great question though!
