Life in the coldest place on Earth - Oymyakon, Russia
I spent a week in #Oymyakon, a remote town in Russia’s Siberia which is deemed to be the world's coldest inhabited place. The lowest recorded temperature here was -72°C or -96°F. Luckily for us, when we got to Oymyakon it was only… -51°C or -60°F and I never felt THAT cold in my entire life! Watch how people brave one of the world’s most frigid and inhospitable environments as we embark on a journey to Oymyakon - the coldest place on our planet where people live all year round.
In Part 2 I explore Tomtor, the biggest village in Oymyakon region where people dig out the thick ice on a river to get drinking water. I also carried out a few experiments out in the freezing cold and turned my socks into proper boomerangs.

Thank you! 🙏
We have a cottage in Folldal, Norway, which is known as a cold place. I've experienced -34 celsius. To know these people LIVE where the cold get to the double of that.. wow! Like, -34 is cold... -60... It's a different kind of cold, if you haven't experienced it. It just hurts, stings. Got such respect for the people of this region.
fascinating stuff
great vid and Lars is the man! Now I'll feel warm at -20f in Vermont.

OK, well at least that's pretty cold, not like 10 C, 50 F, the temperature at which I feel cold at!
It's terrifying to see the shirt being ripped apart because I think of those horror films in which there is a frozen murder victim that actually breaks off body parts or shatters. It seems like it could happen here.

Thanks God I heard this after I’d come back 😅 But it truly is a daunting place, come to think of it
Survival Russia sent me.👍
Thank you , (love from Lars ) 🐺
I was cold this morning and it is only -10 C...we get cool here in Michigan, but not like this! At night, we plug in the cars, and carry cell phones and hand cream inside our jackets -- toasty! These mini-documentaries are simply amazing! However, the bathroom outside might be a little tough!
Wow😮
I am another new subscriber. Thanks to Lars from Survival Russia. Thanks guys

Toasting vodka with goodnight!!! Sladkiv snov.
Very informative and also entertaining reporting. The reporter, who is a young man, has not lost his adolescent playfulness and extrovert optimism, which makes his reports highly watchable. Holly Mother Russia with all its intimidating scale and harsh climate is still an enchanting and a Blessed place. One of her erstwhile foe's words comes to my mind, who grudgingly acknowledged, that Russia was, is and always be "The Heartland". (Zbigniew Brzezinski). Yes, indeed she is, in more than one way: a) She is the heartland of the World, and... b) She is in the heart of many people. Russians of course, but also many other Siberian and Nordic tribes as well, who are indigenous to the land. 🐻❄
I will be there for New Years. Tourists will be good for the economy..
Aweeeessomee!!!, Thanks Robert
On a visit to the Northern Territories one winter in the 1980’s, I solved the car problem by moving it into the cow barn for the night and covering it with boiled wool horse blankets. I ran an exhaust hose out the cat door and went out every two hours to run it for about 20 minutes. I had a survival kit in that car just in case. Foolish people did sometimes die or suffer exposure injuries. When I eventually sold the car, $350 to a Russian physicist, it had about 100 miles on it that didn’t show on the odometer due to it being frozen! With a gang of teenage kids, an outhouse is good because there’s never competition for the bathroom in the morning! You run out, do your business, and run back inside ASAP!
What is the cost of living? Rent is high? Crime rate? employment? 🐙🐄🐎

The cost of living is pretty high since a lot of stuff has to be transported there. Not sure about the rent as 99% of locals own houses. And they rent them out to tourists every winter which was one of their main businesses before the war. I guess, this time there will be fewer foreigners and the locals will make less money…
That's why Marvel movies look so funny, where the characters walk around the Oymyakon without hats and gloves.😂 Thank you for showing real life! Great film, great camera work!👍

Try a frozen potato or rutabaga for a hammer. As for the banana, peel it inside, freeze it outside, and throw it against a rock or cement to watch it shatter like glass.
Good content

Yeah yeah you’re not the first one here offering an in-depth analysis. The funny thing is Russian commentators often call me out for being pro-West and anti-Russian with my “sneaky” reports lol

@@RealReporterthat’s interesting. I wouldn’t watch this one and say it’s “sneaky”… it was pretty insightful and showed the tourism aspect that I hadn’t seen before. I guess you can find someone to be upset no matter what you do.
