Welcome to Jahra, Kuwait - the city with the hottest ever recorded temperature on earth!
I went to Kuwait a few months ago, on the exact hottest day of the year, so I could see what life is like in the brutal heat!! How on earth can people survive and do their daily activities when it’s 55 degrees Celsius, or 140 degrees Fahrenheit outside? How can they eat? Sleep? Pray? Enjoy life?
I met up with my local friend, Sulaiman, and together we went on an adventure of a lifetime, from the urban city life to deep inside the desert on the Saudi border.
This is my favorite video of the year so far, and I hope you enjoy!!

For people who live here in Kuwait, we go from our air conditioned homes to our air conditioned workplaces to our air conditioned malls. We don’t venture out into the elements unless it’s absolutely necessary. I compare it to wintertime in the northern US states.

Faisal is too precious! Hunting for rodents in the desert and knocking on peoples doors to sleep in their house.😂

These are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve ever seen! Setting up a bed for an absolute stranger in the middle of the night.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the middle of the desert of Kuwait and Iraq. The evenings, nights and early mornings are tolerable but the skies…the skies!!! They’re the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and something to behold.

Drew, I just wanted to say I am SO GRATEFUL to you and this channel. These videos are not only beautifully made but so very informative as well. I have probably learnt more about cultures and geography from you than my teachers. Every video is packed with information, visuals, historical details, geographical maps, it's a whole experience in itself. Thank you so much. ❤

I would always prefer extreme cold to extreme heat. You can bundle up in the cold, but there's really no way to get away from extreme heat unless you can find shade or air conditioning.

Is anybody gonna talk about Anas and his ingenious plans? He's highly sophisticated, educated, has a great idea, future for a whole city that could work. Using plants and vegetation to recreate a livable environment for others, all that under the heat of the desert? A true inspiration to many and a true icon of commitment, hardship, hope. I would dare to say an unsung hero, but that's one of the many people who want to make a better change.

I've lived in Phoenix for 6 years and I can't acclimate to this heat. I'd enjoy freezing weather any day compared to this. I can't comprehend how these people have adapted. They are incredibly friendly though.

I used to live in Saudi Arabia when I was a kid and my parents would take us to the desert at night to enjoy the outdoors. First it's much cooler at night and that's when everyone is out and about but also the desert nights are so mesmerizing. I used to just sit there and stargaze, you got to stargaze in the clear dark desert skies. The stars will appear 10 times brighter and your world will just shrink a bit more. I loved it over there.

It doesnt get hotter than 35 degrees in Beirut and I feel like I am melting. Couldn't imagine what our brothers in Kuwait are going through each summer. What a beautiful country and culture. Love from Lebanon to Kuwait

I have North European blood and take hot weather in small doses. The Kuwait people are so kind and very much family people it would be worth suffering the hot weather to meet them. ❤

I lived in Kuwait for just under 5 years (2016-2020) and my mum worked in Jahra. Coming from Scotland, the heat took some getting used to. But after 2 years, I could manage the summers relatively well and I’m now really struggling with the Scottish winter! 🇰🇼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
