This video was shot 3 weeks before the invasion of Ukraine. I do NOT support this war, and my thoughts go out to our friends in Ukraine. We love you.
Welcome to YAKUTSK, (SIBERIA) - AKA the WORLD'S COLDEST CITY. More than 300,000 people live here, where winter temperatures (like right now) reach as low as -55 Celsius.
I went to Yakutsk a few weeks ago with my good friend Ammar from @YesTheory. The city is so remote that we had to take a 9-hour domestic flight from Moscow to get there.
As soon as we arrived in this cold winter wonderland, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Completely frozen trees, frozen pipelines, frozen cars… frozen everything!! But underneath the layers of jackets are extremely friendly faces and warm smiles. And that’s what I came here to learn about - humanity. Who are the Yakutian people? How do they survive these brutally cold winters?
This video takes you on a 4-day journey through the world’s coldest city - Yakutsk. I think you will be quite surprised to discover that Yakutsk is actually a normal city, just like anywhere else. It just happens to be extremely cold!
Thank you to my local friends Maria #1 and Maria #2 (from @LifeinYakutia) for showing me around! And thanks to Andrey for the awesome work behind the camera. And thank YOU so much for watching - this video is really special to me and many long hours of work have gone into it.
Have a great Sunday and I’ll see you next week.

After a long internal debate, I decided to proceed with sharing this video. It was shot 3 weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine. I am disgusted by Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine and I do not support this war. Thoughts going out to all of our friends and loved ones in Ukraine. This story is one that I have been planning to tell for 5 years and I’m really excited to finally share the beautiful life in Yakutsk - the World’s Coldest City. Thank you for watching and I look forward to reading your comments ❤️

Russian people are mostly great people, just like most people are good anywhere. They are in no way to blame for anything at all! I do have some Russian friends and I was in Russia during the World Cup 2018, met so many great and welcoming Russians there. It was the trip of my life so far. Politics is not going to change that - love the people and the culture, landscapes etc. still. People are not their leaders. Let's therefore not hate on Russian people - thank you for sharing this to show that. Also Yakutia is a place I would really like to go to someday. I also met some people from Yakutia in Almaty, Kazakhstan in the hostel I was staying in while there. It's a part of the world that's fascinating me. Winter is interesting for sure but I would also like to go in summer for the nature and the Ysyakh celebrations; it's a huge Yakut traditional celebration in summer, you can look it up if you want to.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience with everyone watching.....❤❤❤❤

When I traveled to Istanbul, I asked my guide what the Turkish people thought of Americans. He told me that his people understood the distinction between the American people and the American government. I must remind myself of that wisdom when I think of the Russians. Not all Russians support this atrocity. Putin stands on his own. Thank you for your videos that show us the beauty of all people from all cultures independent of government.
@crispyair9946

It's naive to think that Putin stands on his own. Russians cheered for him for taking the krym in 2014. The military consists also of normal people, and they still decide to fight for him. Ukrainians lay down in front of the tanks to stop them, not the Russians. Every person who supported Putin in the past has blood on their hands, but my hard goes out for the russian who protest him ! It takes a lot of courage to stand up against him.

@@alenvex8192 I have a lot of Russian friends and their families are so angry. Most sane and logical people know it’s not the regular people. Just as I would wish that those looking at the US would know that there are not followers of the ex president. And his followers embarrass us

NOW I KNOW HOW THE GERMANS(NAPOLEON) WERE DEFEATED IN WW2 IN RUSSIA. I NEVER IMAGIN IT WAS THIS COLD.

Whata beautiful life my friend. Seeing you experience all of this makes me very happy
Makes me cold just watching it. But this is something Ive wanted to see. Thanks Drew. ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Hey, Drew! For your next trip, how about visiting and making a video about any famous ghost towns in the world? Anyway, I really enjoyed and learned a lot from this eye-opening and mind-broadening video! Great job!
