COLDEST PLACE on Earth (-71°C, -96°F) Why people live here? | Oymyakon, Russia

I spent several days with the locals of a Russian village Oymyakon. Oymyakon is Russia's and World's coldest inhabited place, and I thought that the only thing people do there is survive and suffer from the Cold. I was very wrong. Let's see what I found out from the locals

You, are full of shit. Only idiots who have no experience with such temperatures will say something quite that inane. You ANY idea of what it takes to survive in such cold? I do, I spent multiple winters in Antarctica, which I may add is *colder* than the Arctic. Vostok Station in Antarctica recorded a low of - 89.2 C (-128.6 f). And that is BEFORE wind chill. An average person needs almost double the calorie intake in extreme cold, the British Antarctic Survey allows for 3600 calories per person per day, and that is during the SUMMER. During the winter and during Katabatic season only an idiot goes outside for any longer than they absolutely have to. That kind of cold and you can drop your core temperature to dangerous levels through simply breathing. Not to mention the wind picks up ice crystals and snow in a manner similar to sandstorms in a desert, potentially dropping visibility to such an extent that seeing your hand in front of your face is difficult. People have literately died twenty metres from safety and shelter because visibility was so bad they froze to death before they could find it. The people who live in places like that can and do because unlike the vast majority of people, such as yourself, they know what it means to survive out there, and know not to underestimate the cold....

“Every time you talk about the great Russian ballet, I will tell you the story of a young teacher from Brovary who was repeatedly raped in front of her parents and then kidnapped by Russian villains. About dozens, maybe hundreds of raped Ukrainian women. Often in the eyes of children. About 15-16-year-old girls from Borodyanka who suffered terrible violence from the Kadyrovites. About the bodies of five raped young girls who were killed and left on the road. About this abomination "we will spend * hohlushek" in interceptions. Here is what I will tell you in response about the persecuted great Russian ballet. Every time you tell me about great Russian composers, I will tell you the story of a girl in front of whom and her little brother in the basement of Mariupol, their mother died more than once. And then with the corpse of a dead mother, the children were forced to continue to hide in the basement from the shelling. About a boy from Gostomel, in front of whom Russian soldiers shot his father. And then they wanted to kill their son, but he survived. About a girl who was shot directly in the face. About a kid who ran away with his grandmother in a boat. Grandma drowned. And the boy has been wanted for almost a month. Here is what I will tell you in return about the persecuted great Russian composers. Every time you tell me about the great Russian painting, I will tell you about the peaceful Ukrainians shot in the back in the Makariv district. And before they could shoot, the orcs tied their hands. About hundreds of corpses on the streets of Bucha, Irpen, Gostomel. About mass graves in the yards of residential neighborhoods. Until recently, the mass graves of civilians were cozy and safe cities. Mass graves. In the 21st century. Here's what I'll tell you in return about the great Russian painting. Every time you tell me about the great Russian theater, I will tell you the story of a woman from the Brovary district, from whose house Russian marauders retreated and removed metal tiles. About tanks and armored personnel carriers of the "Second Army of the World", loaded to the brim with robbers in Ukrainian homes. Stolen phones, tablets, TVs, washing machines, carpets, jewelry, bottles of alcohol, pans, clothes, toys, shoes - everything that happened to these freaks. When they got to Belarus, they sent their loot to Russia in advance. About how they stole stolen goods in Belarusian bazaars. Here is what I will tell you in response about the persecuted great Russian theater. Every time you tell me about the great Russian cinema, I will tell you about the brutally shot horses in the stables in Kyiv region. About the animals of the zoo in Yasnogorodka, frozen by hunger and thirst. About deer skin burned after the explosion. And now the maximum savagery… About the alabai killed and eaten by the Russian occupiers. Yes, alabai. Yes, dogs. Yes, eaten. Here's what I'll tell you in return about the great Russian cinema. Every time you tell me about the great Russian literature, I will tell you about dozens of interceptions of conversations of Russian soldiers with their mothers and wives. Conversations in which there is nothing but *uck and sh*t. Conversations in which wives order them to steal in Ukrainian homes. Conversations where mothers laugh when their sons tell how their cousins rape hohlushek. And if all mothers are thrown out of these conversations, they will be left with "hello" and "while". Here is what I will tell you in response to the oppressive great Russian literature. There is no longer any great Russian culture, literature, cinema, painting, theater and ballet. There is a country of freaks, marauders, rapists and murderers. Wild people who have no place in the civilized world! And long-suffering new Russian dissidents in the cozy apartments of Berlin, London, Larnaca, Milan, Tbilisi, Astana, Vienna and other temporary shelters, let them follow the route of the Russian ship, proudly carrying in their hands the great Russian culture!

I have read quite a few Russian stories and because of this I am always drawn to Russia. I visited St. Petersburg but as it was on a cruise ship there wasn’t enough time. But I visited a Russian Ballet of Swan Lake which was exquisite and make me cry because the ballet was so moving. I visited the palace where Rasputin spent some time and I just find it so very interesting!! The best place I have ever visited! Now I’m going to find another of your vlogs to watch!! This is one of the most beautifully filmed and informative documentaries I have discovered so far. I had just finished watching a short on the nomadic people of Siberia and how they move every four days and live in what we Americans are used to calling “teepees”. To live so free of of clutter and noise is truly sublime. We have long winters and short summers here but rarely see -30 degrees Fahrenheit now. Yet I have lived in places where the winter can produce days of -70 Fahrenheit and gave me my first experience with “sun dogs”. What wonderful people and ways. Thank you for sharing.

Deer hide burnt after the explosion. And now the maximum wildness ... About the Alabai (Central Asian Shepherd Dogs) killed and eaten by the Russian occupiers. Yes, alabaie. Yes, dogs. Yes, eaten. Here's what I will say in response to the need to support great Russian cinema. Each time you tell me about great Russian literature, I will tell you about dozens of intercepted conversations between Russian soldiers and their mothers and wives. Conversations in which there is nothing but chickens… and ch… .j Conversations in which wives order to steal in Ukrainian homes. Conversations during which mothers laugh while their sons talk about their cousins raping Chachłuszki. And if curses and profanity are removed from these conversations, they will be left with "hello" and "goodbye". Here is what I will tell you in response to the oppression of great Russian literature. There is no more great Russian culture, literature, cinema, painting, theater and ballet. There is a country of bandits, marauders, rapists and murderers. Wild people for whom there is no place in the civilized world! And let the persecuted new Russian dissidents in the cozy apartments of Berlin, London, Larnaca, Milan, Tbilisi, Astana, Vienna and other apartments follow the route of the Russian ship, proudly carrying the great Russian culture in their hands! " p.s. If you can translate and distribute in all available languages, do so. And you better copy it, because if someone were to ban it. They will not ban everyone.

What amazing people! Such a harsh environment. My childhood was spent on a dairy farm in the Upper Midwest, but I cannot imagine temperatures below -30 Fahrenheit. For such Russia cultural adventures, I would seriously consider having a satellite phone available for emergencies. Health and prosperity, Eli. Big Country is definitely the way to go. Thank you for continuing your sharing your wonderful experiences for so many around the world to savor. “…the greatest souvenir of travel, is a broader perspective…” -Rick Steves

One of your best videos Eli. As you say, each life is a story, a spirit trail and an adventure of exploration, and each of these spirited stories is a chapter that combines with other stories to form a larger story, then onto a larger one again, and so on and on to form the most mysterious story of all, that which tells the story of the whole that is the great spirit.
