I like to imagine an alternative reality where Bourdain decided to just walk away when he was at the top and became a creative writing teacher and finished his days living a quietly fulfilling life. God I miss him.

I sat in english and art classes with him in high school. We were classmates. Mind you it was a private school and there were only 5-8 of us in a class. He loved classic literature and the contemporary novels that we were assigned , 1 book per week. We then discussed and reviewed them together. He was fun to be around and very smart. Sorry he is gone.

Love Bordain - I remember his comments when Batali's #metoo moment came - the response of a straight up, decent man. How I wish we could as a culture, and as a profession (psychiatrist here), let him know that there was a way to relieve his pain without going into the pit of substance abuse! What are we doing as a profession about the loss of people not just like Bordain but any human being that finds themselves in terrible emotional pain? Why does the tyranny of "success" and "productivity" go unchallenged? The French say that while they work to live, we in the US live to work! Why the stigma and cruelty towards those in need of our help? Bordain loved those "Others" - not unlike the families perhaps separated at our borders. Why are we so afraid of difference including of those with mental health issues or immigrants? Why does America act with so little generosity as if we were living in a third world country and everyone must keep working all the time or else.....America and Americans can be amazing but.....

He seems to have written a couple bad pulp novels ... surely that doesn't make him a guiding light.

@@donheil9665 I wouldn't say it's creepy, but it's definitely surreal and a bit sad. Time flies, and a lot of things can happen without us ever expecting. Hope these chefs have found peace wherever they are.

Don't care for Mario. Can you F imagine having Anthony Bourdain as your creative writing teacher. Imagine the sarcastic jokes, the wisdom, he would bestow on his students. A dream. I truly miss Anthony Bourdain❤😢
