The LG CineBeam Q is a portable (and SUPER cute) 4K LASER Projector - for up to 120-inch TV, Movies & Games. But is it worth buying? (Use Code TECHCHAP100 for $100 Off)

Not this projector. I’ve learned over the years that luminance is everything. 500 lumens (which is probably a lot less when measured) is nothing. These pico ‘lifestyle’ projectors are a rip off. If you really want a portable, ditch the gimmicky stuff and buy yourself a road warrior from Epson or Benq. Aka a business class portable projector. It will cost you a fraction of the price and give you usable light output and real functionality. Focusing and squaring a projector is not hard… those features are cute but add unnecessary cost to what is already a really compromised design.

@@sage11x I have the BenQ x500i and love it. It only weighs 8 pounds, 4K, 1080P 240Hz 4ms lag, Around 2000 actual ANSI Lumens, 100" inch projection from only 5 Feet away, Lots of audio and video outputs, Perfect for movies and gaming. Only cons are a bit noisy in 4K mode and some rainbow effect if your sensitive to that. It's expensive but you get what you pay for. About as big as you can get and still be considered portable.

You don't 'switch' to a projector unless you are going to spend A LOT of money and go with an ultra short throw projector AND invest in a spendy ALR screen. You use projectors like this specifically for dark areas or night time use. TVs are for bright rooms.

Hello! I'm about to decide if I buy this nice tiny piece of technology as it fits with what I need (projections from a bed/couch in a dark / dimmed environment). Portability, Auto-Keystone, Resolution and Contrast (0.47'' chip compared to the 0.23'' chip most portable projectors have) are the key decision drivers compared to other portable projectors on the market with better brightness (Halo+, Mars III Air, PicoPix Max TV). No battery is a shame but not a no-go (external bank will do it), more Lumens would have been great but I guess this will be for the next version(s) of this new series. Thankfully I've got a good sound system at home so the small speaker of this projector shouldn't be too much of a problem. The only question mark is about the video game input lag: was it OK when you played? Any measurement? I couldn't find the info regarding this aspect on LG's website or anywhere else. Cheers!

I'm disappointed on its brightness, only 500 ansi although it uses 3 laser channels as the light source, which is one of the best tech for enhancing brightness. Anyway, its design is awesome but the quality will be down a bit because of its brightness, also I wonder how good is its sound as with small size comes with less bass.

One thing that was not included in the video which I think should be included in every projector review is what kind of image technology it uses. Yes, it’s laser, but that’s only the light source. As for the imaging device, I suppose it uses a DLP chip? In that case, is it a single laser light source with a color wheel, or is it a triple laser light source without color wheel? How does the projector actually achieve 4K? Does it use a 1920x1080 0.47” DMD chip combined with XPR pixel shifting to achieve a 3840x2160 resolution? (I suppose it does, since true 4K imaging chips is impossible to manufacture at this price point.) Can it do 120 Hz in 4K mode as well, or is that only in 1080p mode? Most DLP projectors in this price range only do 60 Hz at pixel shifted 4K, and can only achieve refresh rates higher than 60 Hz if they are being fed with a 1080p signal (which disables the XPR). It would have been nice to see some more detailed info regarding these things. Great video otherwise, and thanks for the review.

if they -would limit it to 1080p/full hd (if possible while retaining the HDR support for downscaled 4K HDR sources) -make it a little bit bigger (form factor) and hopefully therefore brighter (lumen) at the same time -make it drastically cheaper 600-700€ … i wouldn‘t think about it and buy it as a secondary/portable projector. Imo I dont see the necessity for 4k/HDR for such a small portable projector (at least not in the next five years), e.g. for watching a movie at friends house who dont have a projector or playing something like mario kart

Nice bit of kit, but too dim and too expensive to be a viable option. An external battery option would be useful, but there's no getting away from that poor light level.

Nothing in same size/design terms. Plenty of larger, more traditional looking 4K projectors for a little less than this.

No! Don’t put a battery in it next time. It loses its portability when it gets bigger and heavier. If you’re going camping just use a power bank which is just a sensible piece of kit these days anyways.

BATTERY possible! - The HU710PB can be powered with battery - just connect vie USB-C a power bank and you're done - power consumption is some 47 W in full power - LR writes 65 W but that's the power budget that's requested not the real power demand. I own the LG PF50KA - an ultra portable 1080P projector and that costed $ 500 when I bought it with built in battery but honestly that's a very bad idea other than having something glued to the device. I like this approach much more and the possibility to add basically every power bank with USB-C PD makes it much more versatile because you can choose the battery you like on the go. I'll buy the HU710PB when the world soccer championship is over and the hype around 4 k projectors is gone and the price is reasonable. $ 700 should be a rock bottom market price IMHO and for that price it's a bargain - add for $ 100 a power bank with 200 Wh and you'll have 4 .. 5 h of cinematic enjoyment on the go. So yes - the HU710PB is a fully portable mobile power cut device - very neat idea. The only thing I dislike is the missing ⅜" screw in tripod mount which the PF50KA offers. ( just for the record - it would have taken a few seconds to read USB-C power supply on the LG wen page )

It's the size/portability, 4K and that design you're buying. For a static setup - you'd want more lumens.
