MSRP - $3,900
DAC - 24Bit/192kHz
Power - 90 Watts all 7 channels driven
Weight - 34 lbs.
Dimensions- 17.25” W x 16.75” D x 6.75” H
Quality - 9.5
This receiver definitely feels heftier than the last Denon, Yamaha and Marantz receivers I have owned over the years.
The solid metal faceplate, the louvered and textured metal case all feel very durable and high quality.
The only areas that I expected more for the price are the remote and the GUI. The remote is nice quality but for nearly the nearly $4k price tag, I was expecting more. I would also have liked a little nicer on screen menus but the menus are simple and easy to navigate.
Excellent quality receiver but then again, it should be for the price.
Sound - 9.5
This is without a doubt, the most lifelike home theater receiver I have ever owned. The separation and the details are just awesome.
Dirac Live is superior to Audyssey. There’s definitely more of a learning curve with Dirac Live but it’s pretty easy to navigate, once you watch the available tutorials on KZread and once you poke around a little. Definitely not as intuitive as Audyssey though.
Full disclosure, I never got the opportunity to try out the updated Audyssey app though, which had some nice updates after I got rid of the SR7013.
I still think Dirac Live has the leg up.
Just beautiful sounding receiver for both music and movies. It’s a keeper!
MSRP Rating - 7.5
At $3,900, this receiver is quite expensive. And the funny thing is, this was Lexicon’s entry model. The other receiver and processors are quite a bit more money than this RV-6.
At full MSRP this starts getting into the dedicated processor range, which is supposed to be the end-all-be-all step.
With that said, with a boutique company like Lexicon, along with the sound and the quality, this might still be a good option for those wanting higher quality sound, with the simplicity of a all in one receiver.
Aesthetics - 8.5
I just love the beefy and utilitarian looks of this receiver. It reminds me of the no-frills approach of the NAD 747 receiver I owned way back. It looks like it means business and it does.
I love the easy to read blue screen but it could be a little larger and show more info, in my humble opinion. Minor gripe though.
Price Paid Value - 8.5
Getting this great receiver for nearly 50% off MSRP was just awesome. Comes with the full factory warranty.
I would have never considered this receiver, partially because I still can’t see myself spending $4K on a receiver, but at $1,999 + tax, it was a no brainer for me when my Marantz died.
I would buy this beast again today, a few months after buying this receiver, which is always a good feeling in this fast paced electronics world.
Average Guy HiFi Rating - 43.5/50 = 87%
Final Thoughts -
Most people in this price range will most likely be going separates, no doubt about it. But for those that want a killer sounding, yet more simple system, this is a blurry attractive option.
Only having 7 powered channels was a bit of a negative but this receiver has 11 channels of processing, if you add an external amp, which is more channels than most will ever need. I’m only using 4 of the channels at the moment. Haha
Just a fantastic piece of equipment, I am thoroughly enjoying it!

Great to have you back, slick. I'm glad you're enjoying this piece, and most importantly, it hasn't given you any issues. That's been the problem with a lot of the new processors that have come out this year: bugs galore. That's another advantage of these older models. You'll get them much cheaper if you don't need 16ch processing, and they are quite stable. They work, and they work consistently without fail. I'm still running my Audiocontrol Maestro M5 (processor variant of your AVR, Arcam rebadge) in a secondary system, as it's been so solid, and I think I'll probably keep that one permanently.

Here you are finally. Glad to see your review. I saw your other video 6months ago and got motivated to buy this product for my basement home theater. I got lucky in finding one of the RV-6 for 2000$ including tax brand new. I agree 100% with your review. I had exact same experience with finding help to setup this AVR. Over all a fantastic product at 2000$ price. It is driving 5 channels of my 7 series bowers and Wilkins 704S2 towers and matching center channel effortlessly in my 7.2.4 setup. Rest of the channels (surround back and Atmos) are driven by an outlaw 7channnel amp. Have to say 4k video processing is excellent too connected to NX5 projector. Over all an excellent AVR. Thanks for inspiring me to buy this brand.

Keep in mind that per federal law all amplifiers have to be rated 20hz-20000khz 2ch driven at 8ohms, Denon and Marantz have a 70% guarantee that you'll at least be getting 70% of that stereo power ratting when all channels are being driven, Gene at Audioholics has confirmed this guarantee when he measured the Marantz SR8015, it put our 100 watts 7 channels driven and is ratted at 140watts 2ch driven.

Best decision I've made to date was returning the Denon 6500 (£2,000) and paying the extra for the arcam avr20 (£2800 open box) never mind after three separate auditions, I finally managed to find an AVR that can not only get the best of the my high-end sonus Faber speakers, but when listening to movies and the sound Dynamics change... no more having to reach for the remote control! 🥳 (And to think that's before Direct was implemented)

Lexicon is very well known in professional studio engineering and cinema surround processor applications. Good hardware... .this model is probably entry level for them, given its lack of balanced XLR inputs/outputs. For reference, the Lexicon MC-12 surround processor when it came out was around $12,000. It sounds like Lexicon is going downstream a bit and that's probably a good thing... pro audio sounds expensive until you realize what you're getting compared to audiophile (read: consumers with more money than knowledge) hardware..

  • @TylerStout

Welcome back. I think this a solid deal but I think the fact that Onkyo is offering Dirac in a more easy to use format (no need for computer) and for cheaper kills this sort of product. Yeah it won't be as high end but $500 is a decent savings are pretty substantial assuming you can get one. I think I'll be waiting out for the RZ70 which is supposed to have Dirac Live Bass Control and Auro3d.

  • @TylerStout

@@Laissez_Faire definitely agree but in my opinion the room correction is what makes or breaks an avr as while amplifiers and DACs do matter they don't matter as much so being able to get one of the best room correction suites for third the price is a pretty compelling product. It's also not like you need to use the internal amps that are obviously worse as you can probably get better ones with all the money you're saving. At $1500 I'd agree you're better off with the lexicon for only $100 more.
