LETS GET READY FOR THE ST PATRICK DAY CELEBRATION/OLD SCHOOL CORN BEEF AND CABBAGE

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is my recipe for the most awesome flavorful, juicy corn beef and you ever eaten and cooked
very easy simple recipe
OLD SCHOOL CORN BEEF AND CABBAGE :
3 lb corned beef brisket
1 lb carrots, peeled and chopped
1 lb. potatoes, red, white, or gold
1 onion, diced
1 head of cabbage, sliced or quartered
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp black pepper corns
1/2 tsp whole cloves
water to cover the corn beef completely
Mustard Sauce
2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
4 Tbsp. plain Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp. honey
Directions:
Place spices in spice grinder or blender to crush in small pieces
rub spices over brisket on top and bottom
Place onion and carrots in a stock pot Lay the corn beef on top and fill with water until the corn beef is completely covered.
Turn the heat on high and when it starts to boil, lower the heat to low and simmer covered for 1 hour for every pound of beef you have.
In my case, the beef weighed 3lbs so it will simmer for a total of 3 hours.
After 2 1/2 hours of cooking (or the last 30 minutes) add the potatoes. When the corn beef is done, remove it from the pot to another dish. Lightly cover with foil and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Once you remove the beef, add in the cabbage to the pot and simmer for 15 minutes more. You may have to bring the pot back up to a boil and then lower the temperature to simmer.
When it's time to eat, slice the corn beef across the grain into your desired thickness. Serve with the carrots, cabbage, and potatoes and the mustard sauce. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Enjoy.

As an Irish American New Englander I approve of this video!! Lots of Irish use grey corned beef (same thing but no sodium nitrate to turn it pink). Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody! #DUKEAPPROVED

From a part Irish 3rd generation, and a New England family that migrated to TX in the 50's Happy St. Patrick's Day to you. I'm in my 60's and decided to cook my first corned beef, cabbage, potatoes & carrots! I sure hope it turned out good, will see soon. I was missing my parents and grandparents, so I decided to commemorate my grandmother's heritage.

Hello from Cork Ireland 🇮🇪. I'm actually cooking this for dinner today (Sunday). Although a little differently. Corned beef is submerged in plain water and cooked for 1 1/2 hrs, then the cabbage is added to the cooking liquid. Potatoes are generally steamed, especially if they are floury because they'd disappear in the water! We would also have either Brussels sprouts and/or marrowfat (mushy) peas. 😋😋😋

Hmm my great grandpa oliver gibbons came from somewhere in Ireland to America. I've always thought we must have been poor or weird. We've always put it in crockpot with plain water for a few hours then added a can of sour kraut and several cups of chopped onions let it go some then added cabbage and shredded carrots and sprinkled the seasoning packet. Let it cook in crockpot til meat falling apart then served over top of mashed potatoes with stuffed eggs and soda bread. How close to Irish is that? It's not like roasted in oven and served in slabs like most people do here.

@@marymurphy1393 Lol yes I suspected the sour kraut was not Irish my grandfather was full Irish but my grandma was full German and I think the kraut was her added touch chuckle. Onion s aren't Irish ? Hmm. In America all corned beef has a seasoning packet that what makes it corned not just beef. Do you all add any seasonings anytime or rub or cure it that makes it corned then! But by weird Imeant the cooking in crockpot and serving it overtop of mashed potatoes ...that ever done in Ireland? I have heard that boiling it was a sign of those with less as it woud stretch farther to feed more and roasting it was a sign of more wealth with not having to stretch the meat among many people.

At 10:30 last night, I put a 3.5 lb. corn beef brisket it my crock pot (fat cap up), on low heat. Hub checked it at 6:00 this morning but left it on low for another 2 hours. It came out beautifully…juicy, tender and tasty. I’m cooking cabbage in the drippings and will serve mashed potatoes and green peas and salad for our after church supper. Thanks Chef!

I'm right there with you on missing mom! Mine's been gone for 2.5 years and some days it's still so very hard. Her mom was Irish so I made this in honor of them. I haven't tasted it yet, hope it's good since it's my first time to cook it lol. My birthday is on 6/30, mom passed unexpectedly the day after. Thank God I spoke to her the night before, as we were making plans for my birthday/4th of July celebration. As a child we always combined the two on the 4th as our family always had a backyard party/cookout at my Great Aunt/Uncle's, the trend continued after they were gone. I hope you had a blessed St. Patrick's Day!

Didn’t think abt st Patrick’s day But I usually poach mine in seasoned water for abt. 1 1/2 hrs then take out, cut slits in fat cap & rub season pck all over it & put in oven with a little of the juice to finish cooking & crisp up the fat 😋. Then put onions & cabbage in juice just until fork tender with a little crisp left in cabbage 😁😋. ❤

Chef, you need to give this a try before the corned beef goes off sale, for real: Ingredients: * 3 lb. flat cut corned beef roast *_ditch the spice packet_* * 2 tsp. cooking oil * 1/2 cup maple syrup * 1/4 cup yellow mustard * 1/4 tsp. black pepper * 1 garlic clove minced Directions: 🗒️ *SOAK CORNED BEEF 24 hours, change water at least once if you can (though not necessary), and then discard water before cooking.* * Pat the corned beef dry with a paper towel.
 * Set a large skillet on the stove top to medium-high heat. Add cooking oil to coat the bottom of the pan. When the oil is hot, brown the meat on all sides. * Place the browned corned beef into the slow cooker.
 * In a small bowl mix together the maple syrup, mustard, pepper, and garlic clove. Pour this sauce over the corned beef in the slow cooker. * Cover and cook and LOW for 7 hours, without opening the lid during the cooking time. Seriously… cook this with some southern fried cabbage and 🤤 PS: You could throw this in the pressure cooker for ~60 minutes and it’ll turn out wonderful, too! (Sorry for the edit, but I almost forgot about the instant pot option for ya)

You are right chef. We would never do it in the oven. Bacon (ham!) Is more usual however, at least in my house. Top of the mornin' begorrah! 💕
