Corned Beef and Cabbage - Heirloom Recipe - Irish Pot Roast - One Pot Meal - The Hillbilly Kitchen

Corned Beef and Cabbage - Heirloom Recipe - Irish Pot Roast - One Pot Meal - The Hillbilly Kitchen
Corned Beef and cabbage has been enjoyed for hundreds of years by country folks on both sides of the pound. It was traditionally considered a poor man's meal because corned beef briskets were made from a cheap cut of beef. Corned beef is a savory salty variation on a regular pot roast.
Corned beef brisket with cabbage, carrots and potatoes is the perfect one pot meal for you St. Patrick's Day Celebration or anytime you are gathering with family and friends.
This recipe is hundreds of years old and was brought to America by Irish immigrates in the mid 1800’s. Some of whom settled in the mountains of North Georgia and Western North Carolina are found in my family tree. This heirloom dish will add some delicious variety to your mealtime routine.
Matthew 6:14-15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Remember to put God first!
Ingredients:
Corned Beef Brisket

Oh yes you can, He will know that you have been wronged and he will comfort you which will allow you to spiritually be in a better place to forgive. We as people are not God, we are sinners and always will be, but if we talk to Him, no matter what we are feeling, He will sooth and smooth those ruffled feather and put us in a better frame of mind, reminding us of the Matthew verse. If we can't talk to God when we are angry, or mad or upset then we will never experience the peace he can make happen in your soul, tell your preacher not to tell people You can't talk to God if, you have to do this If you want to talk to God, No you can talk to God no matter what you are feeling, And you will be better for it, trust me

@@debbiemcdowell849 what I'm trying to say is, yes you can go to God while upset with someone. But God will remove that and give you peace and joy. When your conversing and fellowshipping with the Lord, there just isn't any anger. Your praying for that person, to Jesus, with a Christian heart for them. When I'm praying for my sister who upsets me regularly, I'm talking to God about her, asking Him to help her, to guide her, to love on her. I'm not listing all her wrongs, He already knows them.

My Daddy, Spike, loved it too. He, my Mama and lil' sis Melody are with our Lord waiting for me. It's been almost a year since Mama passed. I'm missing all of them terribly today. Funny you wrote ur story and I read it today. It was so similar to my family. I'm feeling lonely w/o them, but I know it's only a blink of the eye to them. But, it sure feels like an eternity to me still here. Jesus has me tho. I'm good. Thank you for your comment.

My mom and dad cooked a meal called a New England boiled dinner. It was basically just corned beef and cabbage. It had a bunch of root crop veggies in it to include carrot, potatoes, onions and turnips. The spices came with the meat. It just canning spice to include pepper corns and the rest. We put that into a metal tea ball to keep it out of the broth but kept the flavor in the pot. Good eating and a warm kitchen. We ate on it for a couple of days and then made red flannel hash of the remaining meat and veggies for breakfast with eggs and hash-browns on the third day.

Because of what she taught my mother we were raised Irish. Today we get to celebrate being Irish and I am forever thankful of what my Grammy taught. Very enjoyable video, as usual:) One of my lifelong friends is from Ireland. When she moved her family to America, where she had lived for most of her first 16 years, she could not find the boiled bacon they had in Ireland. She had totally forgotten we had corned beef instead, and her husband and children were not happy, because they had never had corned beef! You'd have thought the end of the world had arrived. Thankfully, she either orders it from somewhere, or goes back to Ireland (she has a home back there now too) as she did this year.

At 5:48, You mention about the cabbage drying out. I regularly make STEAMED cabbage and I always trim off the root, divide the cabbage into eight pieces (leaving the core) and then soak the cabbage in water for a couple hours, even overnight if I am not in a hurry. The cabbage swells up with water and when steamed is tasty and delicious.

Thank you for a great video, Becky. I didn't know the story about St Patrick. I've never done a gravy but when I serve it, our meat slice is served on a plant. The veggies are served into individual bowls with broth, kind of like a really chunky soup with broth. I'm sure that gravy is just as good as the broth is - I've seen people dump the broth down the drain prior to serving the meal. Brt they never tasted it thinking it was too salty. Anyways Happy St Pat's day to all and thanks for sharing, Becky. St Pat's has always been a special day, firstly we're also Irish but Mar 17th was my parents first date - they married 6 months later. ☘️

Hi Becky. Never made gravy out of the juices. I don't have Irish relative, we are Polish and German. Spent most of my life in California and recently retired in Arkansas. But every St Patrick's we make corned beef. So making the meal more authentic is fun. Thank you so much for the recipe.

I made my corned beef using this recipe yesterday, in my Dutch oven. It was delicious! My husband loved the carrots & potatoes. I really liked that the cabbage did not get mushy (mine usually does). Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. Blessings to you & yours.
