I love how they progressively became more and more enamored with Slimer to the point where I can _totally_ understand why the Ghost Busters kept him around.

It reminds me of the distractibles podcast episode devils advocate. Wade argued for not putting shopping carts back and was goofy about it. Wade argued for putting them back and gave an argument that he clearly had to make before in his life.

Ditto really went on a journey here. "Is it Slimer /milk/?" "Is he the Devil?"

Mike Fortier true but then he became one of the most well known character, a hit with the kids and on almost all of the marketing

@@biddyfox Mostly it's just the fact that the 2016 movie is a reboot and so anything established by that movie or its writers doesn't run true to what was written for the original films.

'Slimer's the devil?' has the same energy as 'My butt's a vagina?'

Slimer was barely even in the first movie. I've always found it funny that he's like the mascot of the series when he has what's essentially a brief cameo in the first movie.

Okay, I kinda feel bad for knowing this, BUT: the cartoon explained this. The Ghostbusters keep Slimer around because he helped them fight a bunch of leftover Gozer marshmallow bits that were possessing their old jumpsuits. Now the Ghostbusters feed him, and in exchange he lets them run experiments on him. Also, he is absolutely a narc for the Ghostbusters.

This is the greatest moment in the history of recorded sound.

Tht is a really good premise for a ghostbusters movie, where they always arrive to capture the ghosts but rather than shooting them they just talk to them and solve their problems, like waking up the invisible man. Conflict could be they are constantly in debt because they sent capturing anything, but they don't want to stick em in a box for all eternity for a misunderstanding

i'm pretty sure in the first movie they confirm that ghosts are just the negative energy left behind by deaths and that's why they can suck em up. like they're not the full entire person reincarnated just weird goopy anger wearing that person's face. and slimers are the weakest ghosts because they don't have faces to wear

this is one of the most mbmbam-y mbmbam bits ever lmao. i love that even when it seems like theyre done, theyve run out of things to say about slimer, like at 11:22, nope! turns out there's even more things to say. and it's all gold, start to finish. the oooonly thing that makes this bit not quite the perfect way to introduce someone to mbmbam is that it ends with the prank house bit, which is a callback to a question earlier on in the episode, so it doesnt land as well out of context lol. i mean its still funny, but yeah lol. otherwise this really is the perfect introductory bit

props to griffin for predicting the level of thought that went into every joke in Ghostbusters 2016

God, the Prank House portion of this is still the segment out of all episodes of MBMBaM that has broken me the most. So good y'all, so good

This totally happened in a Ghostbuster comic. One of the ghostbusters (I'm pretty sure it was Egon) died and went to the ghost zone and met a whole bunch of ghosts.

I really want to compile all the persona references Griffin makes on the show, like the midnight channel one from this episode, but that seems like a monumental task considering how many episodes there are now :')

The most plausible theory is that Egon is the one who advocates for Slimer, he says he is the first on a ghost rehabilitation project, but actually, he is the one who gets him weed, his dark green secret.

I'm glad Ghostbusters: Afterlife addressed this question 💗

What I guess is a testament (???) to Slimer is that all of these potential explanations are equally believable

Ok, since ghosts are apparently supposed to be as smart as they were alive, I've decided Slimer is the ghost of a child who starved to death and didnt know english. It explains why hes such a glutton now and can barely communicate

Hopefully you see this, but it's actually explained in the Ghostbusters video game (considered primary canon, basically it's officially the closest we'll likely get to a direct sequel to GB II), Slimer was never a person, rather the culmination of all the glutenous emotions of a cult worshiping Gozer in the Sedgewick Hotel

Slimer was only ever part of the team in the animated series. In the movies he was an antagonist and was put in containment in the first film. He only escapes because of Peck in the second film. In GB The Video Game, they keep him in a display designed to keep spirits trapped, only for him to escape. He is aggressive and dangerous. The game explains some of Slimer's backstory.

I think I got it. The only ghosts that they bust are ones that they get called to bust, right? So maybe there's a bunch of chill ghosts hanging out too, if the ghosts are cool then people go "Nah, I'm good, no bustin' required"

Just gotta say, that is an adorable picture!
