Dear Katharine, greetings from France! What a splendid video today! It’s been a pleasure to discover your channel this year as all of your videos are so fantastic and informative. Thank you so much for your dedication and hard work! BTW when I started learning English it was in a Russian primary school back in the 70s, we were taught to pronounce words exactly the way you describe the old RP or like the Queen would say them “thenk you, I ehm”, etc. Just a very remarkable fact 😊 Wishing you a very happy New Year! 🎉

I wish you a happy New Year, Katharine! Well even if I'm often torn between various British accents (don't wanna say which I don't like so much) and Irish accent, RP is one of the accents I love the most. Sometimes I'd rather make me an accent out of different accents from the UK and Ireland. Actually I know it's impossible and that it would take me a lifetime. :) Your video was great, love your energy and your effort you always take in your videos. It cheers me up because your enthusiasm is so authentic.

Many thanks - jolly well done. I would just like to add ("edd") my recommendation of "Brief Encounter" as the finest of all films to illustrate the old school RP accent.

Why is it every time I watch your videos, I get dragged into some ‘Pride and Prejudice’ way of life? I just finished watching the 2005 movie because of your influence and looking forward to watching the 1995 BBC series. Last time I read the book was in 1979 and may read it again. Anyway, I now know the difference between the RP and modern RP accents. This was a great learning video. But I have to admit, I love the modern RP accent more so than the RP accent. It is more balanced in politeness, directness, and pronunciation. I am glad you enjoyed your Christmas. Have a Happy New Year! And I am looking forward your 2024 videos.

Very interesting video. About the W sound at the beginning of words, if you listen to recordings of FDR, he pronounced words that begin with "wh" the same way, with a blowing sound.

🇧🇷 I uses to watch lucy's videos, but her voice is prettier and calmer I understand almost everthing. Happy New year Cath.

Dear Katharine, thanks for teaching & giving us more modern royal RP accent information on which is quite wierd to hear and pronounce them as well like the royal family. Anyway, it was good to know the way they speak. I am very keen on different type of the uk accents using up & down the country such as cookney, scouse.
