It’s interesting to see how American English has found its way into the way young Brits speak 🙂 “On the weekend”, “I just had a cup of tea”, I’ve never heard older Englishmen say that.

Oh the use of have is british. My grandparents use it. But on the weekend and use of get is American influence 👍

@@englishwithkatharine , I meant to say that you used the Past Simple with the word “just” “I just had a cup of tea” instead of the standard British Present Perfect “I’ve just had a cup of tea”. Sorry for the confusion.

To speak like a native speaker is so hard for those were not born in a country which uses English as its official language, then in my opinion, the most important point is to able to communicate, to give and receive the message, info. When I was a schoolboy, the English teacher said the idiom "It's raining cats and dogs" was cool. Up to now, I haven't known that this idiom is outdated, so thank you for the updated information. I haven't really understood how cats and dogs get to the sky to be falling down as rain, so this idiom was not that cool.😂😊
