Brady, I am a retired university professor. I have spent my entire professional life using crayfish, lobsters and crabs for neurophysiological research. I think you understand by now what wonderful animals crustaceans are. I am hugely impressed by your empathy and intelligent observations and inquiries into Leon's life. I enjoy your videos immensely, and I admire your approach and delight in the natural world.

Something to consider is that some of your viewers are aquarium keepers. One thing to take into account is that this group can be contradictory, hyper-opinionated and often dead wrong. Your work with Leon has been sterling, Brady. Your approach brands you as an intelligent and compassionate man. In my experience, that's a rare combination.

Not only that, but he's given five-star cuisine and what looks to me like as much enrichment as he can possibly be given. You're doing a great job Brady. Someone from a local grocery store brought a water sample in when I worked at PetSmart. The ammonia strip just about burst into flame upon contact. I worked there 14 years. That was one of the highest ammonia levels I ever saw. Leon was probably pretty weak from poor water quality. When you got him home, it was probably the first time he could breathe comfortably since he was caught. He went from stressed and starving in poison to having a clean place to live, surrounded by food (algae). You’re doing a good thing. Thank you.

Every time I go to the grocery store I see them in the tank and I wanna bring them home because that tank is disgusting I know they never clean it and they don’t watch the water levels because they’re just food. But they’re living things just like cattle are and I think they should have a fulfilling life even if there are going to be eaten. Also the food a.k.a. the living things we eat would be a lot tastier if they lived a lot more fulfilling lives and we’re healthy and happy..

Since watching Leon and Brady's videos I am reminded of this story....... Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions. Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?” The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.” The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.” The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

@@marklammas2465 Classic old philosophy and addage of if you hunt an animal you use most if not all of the animal which is why with hunting I was always middle of the road. If you hunt an animal to eat then it is in both you and other animals best interest's to use most if not all the animal because the more you use and the less you waste the less you have to hunt in general and the more you get out of it when considering hunting is an exhaustive process and by doing such makes it more worth it. As such I am fine with those people if you do it to survive or if it is a required thing to live and in doing so your trying to do that. What I am not okay with is when people do trophy hunting and only do it FOR the trophies its very wasteful and it removes the whole point to why people had to do it in the first place while also devaluing the point of nature and life for what amounts to a social bragging right that I am pretty sure you can achieve through other less environmentally detrimental means. Yes such trophy hunting existed back then but id imagine it was a by product of a necessity of a consequence of the occasion and not so much a sport to do it solely for that point. Cause I highly doubt any hunting party or person would waste that for solely the bragging right back then due to how exhaustive a process and how much work it would save you to not be that wasteful, that it wouldn't be hard to believe that the bragging right was more a bonus then the reason for hunting. Which is why I disagree with that as it imo undermines that whole mentality and reason all for a destructive, environmentally detrimental, and expensive social notch in that regard. While I understand the thrill of the hunt as they say the abundance of options that was not there then to replicate that nowadays leave no excuse to do that anymore for that reason personal or otherwise.
@marklammas2465
Жыл бұрын
@@videogamerNattie98 Trophy hunting has nothing to do with either necessity or survival. It's purely due to some individuals' immature personal desire to be seen as "macho" or "daring". I used to do coarse fishing when I was a kid. When I eventually realised that few of my catches were big enough to eat, and all I was doing was unhooking the fish and dropping it back into the water, I decided not to put the fish through that any longer. I would only, now, fish for food.

Although it was disturbing to hear how he talked about eating Leon’s extended fam. How “delicious” his guts are, etc. he said he won’t be eating lobster “for awhile,” but I’m sure he definitely will start eating it again. I wish he had the compassion to understand that animals’ lives he eats were precious too - that humans do _NOT_ have to eat any of them in order to live very healthy long lives (in fact, vegetarians/vegans live on average almost a decade longer than people with meat-heavy diets). The cruelty of humans eating animals when it is not only unnecessary, but bad for us, is just really sad and depressing.

That’s why you face-palmed too when the OP was sharing her compassion, like a normal human with empathy (empathy that they had been brainwashed to ignore for way too long regarding the animals they’ve been taught to eat). Mind you’re own beeswax. You’re clearly here _JUST_ to fuck with people (including Brady - I know about your previous remark giving him shit for selling merch). You’ve left 3 remarks in total here, and they’re all nothing but being obnoxious.

I love Leon's story! And I still eat lobster. Preferably in the form of a lobster roll😀
Kudos to you Brady... we need more people of your caliber on this planet.... pay no attention to the neigh sayers... you just keep being you. Cheers from Australia
Thank you so much for this channel and all the effort you put in.
I have watched from the start when you first rescued Leon. I love the way you have cherished him and looked after and cared for him. Also, I appreciate the time you have spent researching and finding information about his species. Massive respect to you and your humanity. Enormous admiration and huge congratulations on being a fine human being. ❤
I had a small cat who insisted she had to eat her breakfast every morning on the porch with her friend. The opossum would be waiting, and they would share their food. She wouldn't eat anywhere but with her friend.

What a beautiful story! I’ve heard of more than a few cat/opossum friendships. It seems strange but it’s wonderful. Opossums are gentle creatures (as you know). Sad that so many people despise them.

How sweet! A friend and I used to feed stray cats. One little calico didn't seem to have any kitty friends. But she was always seen with her opossum friend. We named them Patches and Possum buddy. 💖💖💖
I think your attitude, empathy and kindness to animals is spot on. When I saw the two lobsters at the Supermarket, I was so sad-especially for the one with one claw-but you can’t take them all. I avoid looking at them in supermarkets.

Agreed, but yes, so sad. Did you see how alert the one clawed lobster was? He was looking around 😥 Go get him, Brady!

@@ABCstockholm007 Man what would happen to people who want to eat some lobster lol.
People doing nothing to help anyone are usually the loudest in critiquing others. Well done for not dodging tough and occasionally rude/ intrusive questions. Leon has been a joy to so many and you definitely deserve an award. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I love seeing how much he has grown. You are doing a great job. Thank you for being so kind to animals and I loved hearing about your rescue cats.
You don’t owe anyone these explanations. We can see you are taking good care of Leon and the variety of life you have around your house. Love the videos!

Sometimes if you explain things, it educates the person asking the question, who can then go on and share the information....
Leon definitely enjoys his peace in his aquarium, he looks to be very content and happy

Thanks for the video on Leon. I watched the first one when you brought him home. A lot of information there. You seem to have a nice pragmatic view of the animals around us. Keep it up. I hope to see a Leon t-shirt. Lol

Very intersting video! Kudos to you for not avoiding the difficult questions like many others would have done. That reaffirms all our thoughts about what a mature and amazing person ypu are!
I love Leon. Thank you so much for this! 💗💗💗
