I got a fly trap as a gift for my sister without fully appreciating that they're kind of a mix between a plant and an animal as far as care goes. I was worried that I was giving her a pot full of constant work to do, but she's enjoyed tending it. They're probably the most interesting plant that I've ever encountered. It's really cool to see so many of them in one place. 👍

We’ve had our fly traps for a few years now. We’re in FL. I had no idea they go dormant! That explains it! Mostly they are outside but when it gets cold here, I bring them inside. Between Leon & the Flytraps really enjoying your channel!

You are such a talented story teller. I tried keeping a fly trap in Reno, NV. I used the distilled water and let it soak up the water from below, but one day I left it outside to get some real sun, and it happened to get up to 106 that day. When I brought it in, it was dead. Dry heat and record heat doesn't help them, so I'll give up while living in a high altitude (4500k ft) desert.

You have no idea how helpful this is! I've only gone through 2 summers since moving to the Carolinas from the midwest and it's remarkable what grows here. I never really knew Venus fly traps were native to so close to where I am. I've had a backyard space for only a few months now and really got to dig into growing my own plants and produce for the first time. Now that it's cooling down I'm busy planning the space for next spring and this is just the fun touch I needed! I'm excited to start a tub of a few plants come next spring. May need to figure out something different come winter as it does get a bit chillier here in the mountains but I would love to hear more on your advice for keeping the plants indoors over winter months. Truly excited to see the life this invites into my yard as I've already spotted a few frogs.

I live near Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and I follow much the same procedure as you with my Venus Fly Traps. Mine stay uncovered in full sun all year round as we have relatively mild winters (May through to August) and very hot and humid summers (November through to March) all with rain water added daily.

Thank you very much for this! I can't believe this isn't in 4k! That is how good your shots are! You have an amazing eye and deliver a fantastic view of various forms of life interacting with the Flytraps/carnivorous garden. So very informational, entertaining and inspiring! I live in Michigan and there is a carnivorous plant farm here local that I want to check out for sure now. Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what you can show us in 4k! I am sure you will be able to do that soon with the quality content you put out currently. Please consider creating videos showing how to make both small and large scale terrariums for indooor settings. P.S. - Is it possible to create an ecosystem hosting carnivorous plants that is healthy for reptiles, frogs or other small creatures that people may keep as pets (scorpions too!?)?

Hi Brady! Love your plant videos, I noticed in a few of your other videos that you seem to have a large variety of other plants. Would you ever consider doing a video where you show them all and talk about them? :)

I pull the flower stalks and push then down into the moss against the edge of the pot. Very good hit rate of them growing new plants. I also divide the rhizomes every couple of years to double or triple the number of plants. After seeing this I might actually let them flower, I didn't realise how much seed they produce.

Brady, your greenthumb is amazing and your cinematography is ascending to another level! I want to live in the moment with that dragonfly, such peace and beauty. Thank you so much for sharing. Sending best wishes for you and yours.

My workday has been dead. I took one call all day (I work from home) and these videos kept me sane. Definitely worth a sub, and I am currently researching what I need to grow some fly traps haha

Your traps and pitchers are so lush and beautiful! I struggle with mine over the winter - N. Virginia is just a bit too cold and I have to do a lot of hoping. Often with traps, just making sure the hibernacula are in good shape. My flowers don't come out til June! Anyway, thanks for showing all the seasons - real helpful. You're more patient with your cat around the plants! Guess I can still learn a thing about taking it easy.

I loved this! I just had my first successful VFT dormancy last winter and this summer added a sundew and a purple pitcher plant to the family. Carnivorous plants are just so cool, and I remember being in awe when my first VFT flower came up last year. Lovely little freaky plants

I am a fruit fly geneticist. I love these plants and they are BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you!! I struggle with fly traps as I have to winter them indoors. In Northwestern Ontario, Canada. Zone 3A, 3B. We have native pitcher plants and sundue plants. They live in the peat moss. The pitcher plants usually completely encased in moss with just the opening showing. I have a collected pitcher plant out by my pond, it does well there year round. There are tropical pitchers I would love to try. Plus flytraps. I can keep them for a time, then they go into dormancy seemingly, but just die. Maybe minerals, I don't know. I was always told to keep them in terracotta pots, mistake one I suppose, I guess I should melt snow for them! Or find distilled water. Great video!

When I was visiting my Mom in Nashville we drove through North and South Carolina. We stopped off at a Farmers Market and I saw this person selling Venus Fly Traps, they were kinda small but I was fascinated by them

Yeah the roots were so deep it was pulling up sections with flytraps attached.

I've always had trouble growing fly traps, I've loved since I was a kid. This video was very informative and helpful. Think I'll give it a shot next spring!

I watched my pitcher plant eat a wasp last week, very satisfying!

This was fascinating, Canada isn’t the best climate for these plants, although I grow Jack in the pulpits and Arum successfully. I did well with a Nepenthes for several years, until the squirrels dug it out while I was away. You have developed a nice little ecosystem there, and I would spend a lot of time just watching all the small lives playing out. Cats remember that they were once worshipped as Gods, and assume they still should be. I always enjoy your offerings Brady, you are, (as my Grandmother would say), a man of many parts. Thank you for sharing some of those parts with us, you have a wonderful ease of style.🖤🇨🇦

Great vid luv the Venus Fly Traps keeping them is encouraging mini environments for other forms of nature ..

I'm in Brisbane, Australia. I don't have flytraps, but I have lilies, begonias, jasmine and potatoes. Watching them grow and change over the year is exciting, especially my white lily. The first time it bloomed was my wedding day with one flower (Halloween last year) and this year we're getting nine flowers. I use the water from my fish tank to water my plants and they love it. I love watching your videos on plants and koi and of course, Leon. Life in nature is so beautiful!

I just don't know how you do it, Brady. Saw this pop up on the sub feed and said "nah, don't need to watch that." Then I clicked on it and somehow it's 17 minutes later and I don't regret it. I have a black thumb and only the regular amount of interest in flytraps, but I was entertained the whole way through.
