The fact your narration is normally delivered in such a gentle, measured tone made the line _"My first thought was those _*_fucking_*_ thieves had revved the engine to hell and back"_ all the more powerful and relatable to the feeling of impotent frustration and violation one experiences after a burglary. Especially on your own property. Great story and a great outcome!

I'm so glad you got the bikes back! For us, it wasn't bikes, but we lost £14K of clothing we imported from a small designer in Toronto. The detectives were wonderful, they knew exactly who did it, because he was just a local addict who routinely stole stuff. However, they also knew the fence, and went to bust him. Sadly, our stuff was all gone, except for one of our holdalls, that we'd described to a tee, including small tear at one end, and the guy's wife had several of our garments hanging on the bedroom door, still with OUR labels attached. She said she bought it from 'some guy at the pub carpark'. Long story short, we never did see any of our stuff again, we trawled through markets and 2nd hand fairs, and shops, over 4 cities, but it was a long shot, and never saw a thing. We did get the few items from the house returned, probably about £300 of the £14K. It destroyed our business, and more crucially, it destroyed our passion for our business. My partner at the time said instead of feeling pride when he spotted people wearing our stuff, he just felt suspicious. Thieves don't give a shit about how deeply they affect peoples' lives. For you it was years of investment in your bikes, for us it was years of building up a business and reputation across Europe. I'm pretty sure even if the stuff was returned to us intact, we would have still felt violated, angry, frustrated, victimised. I fucking hate thieves.

I remember when I worked at a restaurant back in the late 80s one of the coworkers there was trying to sell an expensive Charvelle guitar for a mere $150. Coincidentally the next day some of my friends in a band mentioned how their $1500 Charvelle guitar was just stolen. So I helpfully pointed them to the culprit. It was pure luck and I could imagine the guitar could’ve permanently disappeared. I hope the vintage price of your bikes caused the thieves to be charged with grand theft, plus damages. But…hearing about all the meth heads and the incompetent prosecutors in the area where I live (Southeast Missouri) they will probably plea-bargain out and not serve any time.

A month and a week go by and I get a call from Garland County Arkansas asking me another 10,000 questions, finally admitting they'd found it. TWO MILES from where it disappeared. With no paint on it, tank dented on both sides, the handlebars hanging down by the cables, bald rear tire (so they'd been riding it; for a while), pipes cut back, it was a shit show. And they made me pay $200 to get it out of the impound lot they took it to. I love seeing peoples passion in restoring historical vehicles. My Pop restored his 1971 Plymouth roadrunner that he owned since he was 18. we would go to car shows with her and he had so many trophies in his garage. I have very fond memories of growing up with that beautiful car and I'm sad we had to sell her. Sadly in 2020 my pop passed from cancer and since he was gone we had no one to take care of the car anymore and we couldn't just let it sit in the garage. She's been sold to someone in Ohio so I dont get to see her anymore but I hope he's being taken good care of, I miss that car and my Pop.

So glad you got your bikes back. I imagine it's the drugs that makes these kind of thieves so incredibly stupid. I had a scooter stolen from a race track. The kid was a stoner, and left an easy trail of breadcrumbs to follow... he bummed some gas off of someone for the scooter, then tried to borrow a helmet from someone close enough to the trailer park he lived in that the guy was able to point me to the trailer park, I was able to find the scooter, knock on the door, and have a few strong words with the kid's parents. They were thankfully embarrassed for their kid's behavior. I could sense your frustration, and applaud your determination in getting your bikes back, after working so hard to restore them. I lost a pit scooter, but if it were one of my motorcycles, I don't know how calm I could possibly be about it.

I'm so glad you got your bikes back I was afraid you wouldn't. Having those pictures and serial numbers recorded really helped to prove they were yours too. My apartment was broken into 3 days after Christmas and they stole everything. The only thing that was recovered was my TV because I had the serial number recorded in my owners manual. Now every time I make a big purchase the first thing i do i take pictures and write down serial numbers. I grew up riding motorcycles, my first was a Honda 50 then a Honda 70 then a Yamaha 125. I rode dads Yamaha 250 and his 360 also, man those were the days. Dad and I rode together along with friends we camped with back in the 60's and 70's and went to races. I liked riding in the powder puff races the best. Our friends got into trials bikes and we had a Bull Taco also. That's awesome your bikes are from '78, that's the year I graduated high school. Those were definitely great times. I really enjoy watching your videos about Leon also. Sorry this is so long but you reminded me of some really great times growing up.

I love a happy ending! Glad you got both of them again! Back in 1978 I took my girlfriend for a ride on my 1973 Honda CB350F. We stopped at a pizza shop for lunch and when we were done eating, we went out to the parking lot to continue our ride and found our helmets sitting neatly on the asphalt of the parking spot we had used. The bike was gone! I called the police, of course, who told me that the bike was probably already at a "chop shop" in pieces to be sold off. They said they'd look for it but that chances were that I'd never see it again. They were right. I've had many others since then, but I miss that bike. Btw, I'm currently restoring a 1988 Honda VT800C. Hopefully, none of the replacement parts I buy come from a "chop shop"!

I SOOOOOOO HATE motorbike theft. Life long bike rider here. Even worse anyone restoring a bike, all the hard work etc and it then gets stolen!!! DAMN!!!!!!! Oh no, the RM too!!!! A$$holes!! SOOOOOO good to hear you got them back. Those 2 bikes are EPIC!!! Thank you for restoring and keeping history of dirt bikes alive! *How about the vintage arcade game machines in with your bikes at the Police station/area?? ** I had a bike stolen once too. It was so close to an engine rebuild... the engine blew up1km from my house!!! I wonder how far the thief had to walk home after that! I so miss the paper magazines, even in Australia news would be 3 months late but better late than never.

Your channel is so full of interesting things, I'm really glad I have found it. Your two vintage bikes are greatly restored, hats off. Shame you couldn't get your Suzuki parts back. I had the chance to own an old bike (Suzuki RF 900 1996), I restored on my own it as much as I could and did a 4000km road trip with it (2500 miles~). What a blast it was. It was an ugly and it was worth little money but I worked on it with all my heart and passion, and if I could, I would have kept it as long as possible. I couldn't imagine the frustration of all this work being stolen for drugs. Glad you had them back !

So glad you got your passion projects back! There is an adage that luck is when preparation meets opportunity... definitely true in your case. Your diligence in pursuing their recovery, including your hours of outreach to the legitimate BMX community, is potentially the reason that you were the statistical anomaly in stolen bike recovery. It is a rotten shame that the rest of your workshop couldn't be recovered. One thing that startled me watching your bikes rev was the constant stream of smoky exhaust that the tail pipes emitted. That sure was 1978 - back before pollution and health concerns forced limits on particulate emissions! Away, the world that we have left behind....we were lucky to have lead taken out of gasoline! This video did make me sharply nostalgic for cars from that period I loved.. my first one, a new 1974 Honda Civic in orange, the first year they were imported from Japan, or the 1974 BMW 2002 tii I bought used 10 years later. Those cars had no air bags, shoulder belts, catalytic converters or cushy suspensions. They were mechanical and could be repaired by an owner in his backyard. You felt the road as you were driving and could use the manual transmission to slow the car and spare the tires. You do an excellent job of telling all of your stories! Your calm, measured and informed delivery makes me actually care about topics which might normally not interest me. May your burglary deterrent strategies all be successful in the years to come! And so glad Leon made the trip well. Change takes him a while to overcome.

great job getting them back. I too had a theif break in and steal my quad, when it was 4 mnths old,and got it back. I lived in a farming area similar to yours. One night a 13 year old boy, who had previously done the same thing, cut a hole in my chain link fence and stole my new blaster. woke in the morning and called the sheriff, made a stolen vehicle report. 2 days later i got to lookin outside the fence, and noticed tire tracks and vans shoe prints. I followed them for about 3/4 of a mile till they led to a certain house. i ran back and called the sheriff again , i showed them what i found, they did their work and called the next day. they found the kid and he told them he took it but didnt have it. he had left it in a corn field so his mom wouldnt find out. I recovered the bike with about $200 in damage to it
