Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

This version differs from the original 1976-issue vinyl, and also from the original movie release. there are many parts of this version that are in the original, but it's significantly different. The whole thing was compiled from recordings/footage of all 3 nights at the Garden - the original release in '76 (sound and video) was heavily edited and comped (plus of course much of the video footage was a re-enactment a year later on a sound stage at Shepperton studios in England). These later releases tend to be more faithful to the original complete 'night by night' recordings.

“Chord vocabulary” wow I’ve been searching for the right word to describe how Page makes his guitar speak. I’ve never heard that term before. I used to say that he is just making love to his guitar. So awesome. Now is there a word for the way Robert Plant and Eddie Veder use their voices as an instrument?
@chesneytube1
3 ай бұрын
@@thetalisman963 I first thought of that term when I saw Ry Cooder live (with Nick Lowe on bass and his son Joachim on drums). It was like if music was a language, he was just so much more fluent than everyone else. He knew SO many chord shapes, voicings, tunings etc etc. It was quite amazing, he barely seemed to repeat ANY phrase. It adds so much richness to the music and he makes it look so simple. I never appreciated it until I saw his fingers in real life. When you think how many guitarists repeat the same chord shapes it really makes him stand out... and Page is the same, a real student of the instrument and not a dabbler. About Plant I once heard him say in an interview that all he did was let the music take him haha which is a totally different approach but worked obviously.

I seen this movie at the U.A. Westwood, on Westwood blvd. in Westwood, (sadly, it's a CVS now,) 60 times in one year!!! Circa 1980. I was 14 years old that year, and in my 'senior' year of Paul Revere Junior High School in Pacific Palisades\Brentwood. My friends, and I would invariably rip some super 'Da kine', 'Maui Waui', 'Kau'i Electric', or some Humboldt county Purple Skunk Indica bud, or Kryptonite bong hits in our U.S. bongs, and jump on the old R.T.D. (Rapid Transit District, or, Really That Dirty) bus to the midnight matinee at the U.A. westwood where they would simultaneously show the perrenial costume-cult-classic 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'. They would show them in separate movie theaters because they have four. Heavy metal would play in the third, and 'Fritz the Cat' in the fourth. Sometimes we would ride our skateboards all the way to Westwood, and maybe play video games for an hour at the Westwood video game arcade, or maybe even sneak into the nearby cemetery, and rip some pre-matinee bong-hits, and then go to the movie, and watch it dazed, and awestruck as our beloved ❤🎉 Led Zeppelin were blasted through the Dolby Surround Sound movie theater speakers at Volume 11!! And we were in heaven. Good shit!!! Good times

Agreed. On the surface its a gritty old blues song, but actually the arrangement is quite elegant, highlighting an intricate, almost preternatural sense of timing between all four, and a depth of soulfulness that grabs you right in the gut.
This is by far the best live performance of any band at any time. It's raw, it's animalistic, it's brilliant and it rips your guts.
I'm 71 and have seen LZ two times in my past...also Plant& Page twice. There will never be a band like LZ ever again!
I am now 30.... started listening to Led Zeppelin at the age of 16. I would do just about anything to go back in time & see Led Zeppelin live in concert.

I saw this movie/concert back in the mid/late 70's as young teenager. Blew my mind along with the pot smoke filling in the theater. Watch it if you haven't already. This was their prime!
All these years later, every time I watch this video I say the same thing " WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE!" Daddy Bonham would be PROUD of Jason!!!
Musicians will spend the rest of eternity catching up with these guys.No one has come close to evolving from the Led Zeppelin space. Everyone is in their shadow.

@@joseandrada264 That's right, & when he passed away, they got together to talk about it, but they did not even have a discussion, they just knew that it was over, Zeppelin had to be these 4 musicians, but if any one of them had passed away, then they would have split up, none of them could have been replaced, the stars were aligned when they got together, & if you tried to replace any of them, then it would not have been Zeppelin, J.P.J. was a classically trained musician, who, along with Jimmy was a sessions musician, in the 60,s & Bonham, & Plant had played in 7/8 different bands in the mid 60,s, & were really good friends, they were ALL master musicians, in their own field, NO band is ever going to top trump Zepellin, they were the best band ever.

5:32 look and listen to that. Nothing comes even remotely fucking close. Best of all time.
Has to be one of the greatest live performances ever, no exaggeration. I’ve kept coming back to this over the years to remind myself of how it should and could be done. A classic, Stu X
can you believe that right after this, they played the most trippiest, No Quarter ever?! like, words can't describe the song after this one. Nor this one. And they called MSG 1973 "like watching their most regrettable concert to date". madness.
The rift Page puts down that syncs perfectly with Plant’s singing at 3:14 is fucking incredible. Just runs it down the line. Then hits that long drawn out note right after. So good!! Little subtleties like that is just one of the many things that made them the best.

@@TB2798 Page used his guitar to literally sing with plant, with the same expression and emotion that plant put out, and then he just amplifies it with the most incredible solo ever performed. But its the way he sustains and lets the chords ring out at 5:46 that gives me the chills every single time. Bonham also slows the beat and its only in this performance that you hear them do that. just incredible

Sheer perfection
The blues, stretched, hammered and rocked hard. These four guys found each other by the hand of God.
This is one of the greatest performances. On the one hand, it's a simple blues in C minor pentatonic, but on the other hand, the turnaround on the 5 (Gm) and what follows is totally original. Masterful rhythm playing and some of the best solo work ever. This zeppelin tune, perhaps more than any other, was a vehicle to showcase the supreme talents of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.

That's why made John Paul Jones such a great bass player besides his playing in the pocket was his ability to stay with it regardless of what improv was thrown at him he was right there, he did a lot of the band's arrangements and Bonham was just a monster drummer
