idk about any of you guys but sometimes when i learn a song and then take a break for a few weeks playing other stuff and then come back to it i learn it much cleaner and faster. i think sometimes having a break it like clears excess cache in your brain or something and when you jump back in you’re mainly just using muscle memory to guide u from the weeks before. kinda a silly thought but i’m curious if anybody else is like this.

I think I remember someone famous in my childhood, idk Zak Wylde or whoever, saying exactly this. They also compared it to video games, that when you keep trying and failing and then take a break for a week you clear the stage first try lol. But it actually makes all the sense in the world - learning actually happens during sleep, not while practicing.

I got a guitar for Christmas when I was 9 or 10. I tried to stay consistent but it just didn't hold my interest. Almost every song I wanted to play, I realized it was the bass line I was attracted to and I never got good at guitar. In high school at 17 I got a bass from my cousin. I learned some songs I loved and learned some techniques and how to keep rhythm but again wasn't very consistent in my practice. I came back to it at 19 and have only played more and more. Now at 20 I feel very impressed at what I can do on the bass. I've been complemented by higher level musicians on my original works and it only inspires me to be greater
