i was about to comment this very same thing. im not normally someone who has patience. but fuck trying to just learn off the video of tim or ichika or marcin playing. that shit is too fast, too complex, and the augmentations and inversions are too foreign when your already jumping a damn octave every 5 bars or so. Alot of people dont talk about this. but his muscle memory is insane. he knows where every part of the fret board is without looking.
It genuinely disturbs me how effortless Tim makes this look. The amount of work this must take to perfect is wild to me.

@@Drewthemagnificent not what he said, but what every top comment says where nik is seen with a guitar
Honestly Tim's comments on this video about how to properly fingerpick erased 4 years of bad habits of mine and immediately made me click and improve my technique. This guy is not just a skilled guitarist, he knows how to teach stuff. Then I threw my guitar away in frustration with cramps in my thumb trying to thump. I'm glad Nik is here to make me feel a bit better. Thanks Nik :D.
I know you meme it up for entertainment, but it's pretty encouraging to see someone as good as you also struggle with new techniques. I'm a total stranger to fingerpicking, idk if that's just standard practice, but it's funny how the letters that Tim uses for the fingers don't correspond to their English names, but actually fit their French names (and I'm assuming it works for other Latin languages too). Like P = pouce (thumb) and A = annulaire (ring finger).

Once you get used to it this technique is actually not too difficult (as used in this video). It feels great too. I’ve started using it to practice a sweep / finger picking combo that I see Manuel Gardner Fernandez using and it feels godly. Tim is such a boss for taking the time to give tutorials like this

Im glad nik is back with the guitar content.
I've been working on learning this for a few days now, and it's like the 4th thumping video I've watched. Just getting used to the finesse that's necessary took me longer than I would like to admit. I'm just starting to get decent at it. Still nowhere near Tim, but his video was the most helpful in teaching me the technique. It really does take a LOT of practice to get it. I'm usually a quick study, but I've been learning this technique for like 2 weeks, and I'm just now starting to feel confident with it. It's so so fun, once you get the hang of it.

Lol, great video. I'm here looking at the callous on my thumb, realizing I've a mirrored experience. For me, it's been the fancy pick techniques that I've slacked on. I used to lose my picks all the time, so I developed my finger picking. I should probably load up a sweep picking video now.

Watching you struggle with someone else's lessons is me struggling with your lessons. Love the content.
I’m glad to see Nik be so clumpsy with it like i am with every freaking thing i learn on the guitar haha
Super nice to see you try this! As a classical guitarist I am way better at fingerpicking than at playing with a pick, and I can't stop myself from pointing out that you could try to pick more from the fingers and less from the hand as a whole. I see your hand make a little jump every time you pluck the i-m-a fingers, and you should aim for a steady hand that does not or barely move. This will make it easier to play with as little tension as possible, as well as more economical. so you can speed it up better. =) In the meantime, I will just struggle like hell to learn how to sweep, and get encouragement from your cover videos!
🤣 thank you for being real with the struggle of all Tim's techniques

Nik is goated for patience and emphasis ❤️
This is honestly inspiring me to learn how to play the guitar, maybe one day💔
6:50 hahahahaha the way Tim is looking at you is priceless.
Awesome content! Fingerstyle perspective: try keeping the RH pinky off the guitar. Also try preparing the ima fingers before you pluck so you don't have to think about it.
Nik, from personal experience, you'll never stop learning. You're an excellent guitarist/musician so never give up
5:44 a tip don’t reposition your hand while finger picking it’ll become harder to pick the correct string 😅
Thats where i recognize, playing guitar 3 years in music school was important. Learned from the bottom with aucustic on nylon.
Nick I believe by next video you can have this mastered
It actually makes me feel better to see Nik struggling to learn something makes me feel less like the utter fail I am 😂
This was entertaining, good post.
Broooo, nice you checked this percussive fingerstyle out..... its so different from normal playing, i can completely feel with you.
I needed this lmao
Drop OMEGALUL breakdowns lmaooo
Already resting the other fingers is a great tip to increase speed. Now i can practice those crazy ichika ghost notes
Every time Nick’s tryin to do something “WTAH THE FUK?”
Nik demonstrates the frustration every guitar player experiences to a tee 😂🤘🏼😎
Could replace with slap on the downstream and a slap release on the upstroke(similar technique) then pop with the index mid and ring for a mo funky approach.
Little tip for your thumb technique, your picking motion kind of moves away from the guitar as you downstroke, try keeping your thumb as absolutely relaxed as possible and bring it through the string with force from your wrist, this way when it lands on the next string it’s immediately in position for the upstroke
I picked up Tim from a Chicken Express back in the day. Very chill guy and open minded.
