the prerequisites for this course is : 1- you have to accept that you will be working with linux cause window will not work for us as will as linux and the instructor gaved some reasons for that like annonymisty and the tools that works for just linux 2- an internet connection, it's better to have a fast one 3- a working wire-less card if you have a laptop it's fine you have already one but if you use pc then you have to get a usb wirless card

can anyone explain why we cant use windows ? can we use it as a host for vm ?

Why didnt you use kali linux (not virtual) at once . Why did u have to use mainly fedora and kali inside a virtual box?

Because, system security admins need windows for configuration in the workplace, its mutch faster to run linux in a virtual machine, then it is to run windows on a virtual machine, also the instal of kali is mutch mutch faster, so if there should be something wrong with your virtual machine, you just remove it and instal it back in 5min or less 😉

@@namelastname6744 I'm new to this also but I understand you're talking about a live USB? In that case I would say you can do it but it is still less practical than a virtual machine : say you tinker a bit too much and end up wrecking your OS you would have to wipe the USB drive and make it anew whereas on a virtual machine you just delete it and make another one. Don't quote me on that though but that's how I understand it

Need a usb network adapter if you using kali linux in virtual box. Usb network adapter is very cheap.

@@moak1214 disable your computer's native wifi receiver, your booting is fucking up because it freaks out with two wifi receivers, that used to happen to me

I know I'm very very late but I hope this helps you or anyone who sees this comment: open ur terminal sudo su nano / etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.config then some kind of a file will open and there is a false at the end of the file change it to a true save it and and close the editor service network-manager restart after few minutes your wifi will be working Good luck!

Yes

If you can't connect to Wifi while in virtual box, thats because linux can't detect your wireless card (you would need an external one for it to work). Just dual boot Linux alongside Windows for Linux to use your wireless card out of the box.

Kind of. If you were scanned (with Nessus), you’d look like a Windows machine. That’s good if you are in a network of Windows machines. However, if you are in a network of Linux machines... you’ll stand out and draw scrutiny. If your question is, “Does running a Kali VM from a Win10 box make me undetectable?” Again, that depends. If I’m looking at your outbound traffic with WireShark, I’m going to see a lot of traffic that isn’t from Windows programs coming from your box. That could give away the fact that I should investigate further. Also, if you use a VPN from your Kali box to a destination, I’m going to be able to identify that destination. So I’m going to know to look for outbound traffic from that destination. The reason I would be alerted to even worry about it, is that I would see a mix of traffic, both unencrypted from the Windows box, and encrypted from the Kali VM. The encrypted traffic would give away that there is likely a VM in use (though I may not know what OS). Anyway, keep in mind that I would still know what your external IP address is (if I’m monitoring outside your network). If I’m on the receiving end of a scan/attack, I’ll know where it came from. Some governments/countries turn over records of who was connected even though they say they don’t. Networks that are consistently a problem are stopped (blacklisted) by modern application layer firewalls. And the requirement isn’t even on the company that has the firewall to create the blacklist. They can buy them, subscribe to them, or get them as part of a service agreement... So invisible/anonymous? It really depends on what you mean, who’s paying to track you, and what you are doing.

Hi joseph this tutorial is very helpful, i just want your opinion on this question that i have . if i use debian as my main os then i create another partition to install kali linux would that be okay? or would it be better if i install kali linux on a external hard drive and use it as a bootable drive whenever im gonna use kali. @GeekyNerd54 IIRC, Kali Linux comes with a suite of applications installed on it, but Kali Lite is just the base OS onto which you can pick and choose which applications you will be using/installing. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.
