Why do you need to setup a bridged connection? I have an Internet connection while on the standart NAT setting, however while Bridged I can't establish a connection because it won't let me restart the Network Manager. It says "Failed to restart Network-Manager.service: Unit Network-Manager.service not found." A reboot also didn't help

if your question has not been answered. try "service NetworkManager restart" . it works for me.

Hello, I use a wifi network so should I still select Bridged Adapter or keep it to NAT because when it was set to NAT (by default) the ping still brought back results. Please reply, any help would be appreciated 😊

When i enter ept.get update in my terminal it showing bash: apt.get: command not found so what should I do???

Out of nowhere I am unable to ping to external networks (sites). I haven't changed any network settings on my host box hosting a Kali Linux 2017 box (nor settings in the Linux box) and I can't ping anything other than local host. Error: name or services not known. I've restarted network-manager to no avail. I do have connection to the net from the host box, but nothing in the virtual Linux box. Some of the answers I have found online have been to advanced for me to understand. Any help is welcome! I like your vids, Joseph! I have been following this series for a lil over a month and have been able to follow along pretty well, until this annoying connectivity issue. Thank you! =).

Hey mate, I sincerely performed both the commands apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and everything downloaded and when the setting up process started, Kali went into sleep mode but when I tried to enter my credentials, Kali got freezed and I had to shutdown Kali and when I booted it up again and ran those commands apt-get update and apt-get upgrade I am not asked to enter Y/N so where the all apps where updated or is there any problem.

If anyone is still having an issue with the network manager after changing the network setiing. Go through the same steps in the video and try running dhclient -v.

My network connection seems to be working fine, however I get a different error when I try to do the update and upgrade. When I do the update, hardly any text shows on my screen and when I try to upgrade, I get the error: E: could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open ..... as well as ...... E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

okay this checklist might help: 1. is another "apt-get" running somewhere else when you try this? only one "apt-get" instance can run at a time. restarting the system will solve this. 2. are you root? if your command line ends with a "#", then you are root. a "$" means you are not. you can switch to root by entering the command "su root" and typing your password then. 3. check your repo sources. there is a file at "/etc/apt/sources.list" that often causes troubles. since the content of that file mainly depends on your linux distro, you need to use google to know what should go into that file.

Am I supposed to lose network connection to windows when I start vbox kali?

I know its been several years and you're not waiting for a reply... But for those who are facing a similar situation, its perfectly fine... It happens when you downloaded the latest version of kali and you're following through the tutorials right away. In my case I have older version of kali and was sleeping on it for a while without much action... so when I ran this command I got different set of issues which are easily solved thanks to amazing support available. Thank you.

Every time I try to update Kali "apt-get update resulted in "Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied)". Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey im using the kali rolling version and I followed your steps to set up the bridged adapter, but it does not work. After editing the config file when i restart the network manager, nothing happens and ping still does not work. I even tried restarting the system altogether, but in vain. I had another question as well. Why can we not use NAT? Because when I use NAT instead of bridged, I have no problem accessing the internet. My host machine is connected to the wifi and not via an ethernet cable. EDIT: When I connect my laptop to my phone's hotspot, internet in the VM works even through a bridged setting whereas while connected to my WiFi router it does not. Thanks

how do you do all this on Windows 10? I can see how you do it on Linux but I do not have a Linux computer so how can I possibly follow what you are doing when I don't have Windows?

You must have skipped a few tutorials, you can't do any of this in Windows, you need Linux. You can install a virtual instance of linux on your windows computer by using softwares like virtual box or vmware. You can find tutorials on installing these softwares on this same channel. But, I reccomend you follow a 2020/2019 tutorial, you can find plenty of them on youtube

E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/. showing this while apt-get upgrade how can I fix this

Answer to your question: Because your host machine (Physical machine cannot share its Wifi Adaptor/Card with a virtual machine, You will need a usb wireless adaptor plugged in to your computer and configure it through vbox and your vm for wireless to work on your virtual machine. learn the difference between Nat, Bridging, internal networking configurartions etc.. Tip 1: Understanding the fundamentals of Networking and configuration is vital if your going to make progress in learning or performing penetration testing, Also making sure everything is setup correctly and you understand how the setup and configurations work with not only networking but also distributions, operating systems etc.. try not to skip anything

If I have kali linux installed as a live-persistence version in an external drive, I can skip this right?

Hello Joseph Thanks for creating all these videos. I am totally new user over Kali Linux OS, I am learning it from last 4 days from internet and from your videos. Reason for the comment is that I have installed Kali Linux 2020.1. The Terminal & its command and look is differ from the Terminal as you explained in this video so I am getting trouble. Approximately at 7.57 time of this video you have open a new terminal window which I tried to open in my Linux which is totally differ from it, so please could you explain why is it so.

​@@markkl8058 dosent matter really, as long as your data is there you can edit/change them. plugins= and managed= nano opens in notepad format format and layout could vary on the version your using?

In the menu for VMware select your Kali Linux vm profile and click edit/options and then go to network, there select bridged and finally select your network cards and hit ok. I hope I helped :)

Never mind. I figured it out. For me, for some reason, I already had a network connection on my VM, so I didn't even need to do all of that what you were doing on a Linux machine. Thanks anyways

found the solution. type sudo su then type your password that is kali by default then continue with the tutorial

@@mohammadzubayeralamkhan5480 sudo su is just to get root access if you don't. Right now after the update if you type sudo and the command it will ask for password but if it gives error that you don't have access type sudo suddenly then enter it will ask for password then log you into root

Ash use an image (not like an actual image the software one ) instead - once you download the image open your virtual machine and open up the image with it - this explanation wasn’t super clear but watch kali Linux tutorial from free code on KZread - he goes over this

sudo service network-manager restart if you have no internet connection check your network settings in virtual box if your physical machine is using wireless go to your virtual box network settings and select Nat Learn Network configurations Nat , bridging etc

For me also same problem

He didn’t explain this in the video and there is a lot of confusion. If you’re running on a virtual machine it is not connected via WiFi or wlanX. You will need an additional adapter to use WiFi.

@@Collo_Kenya what software are you using to run VM? In your setup you’ll need to allocate a Wi-Fi adapter. Additionally, you may need to allow hardware pass through (not sure of the exact terminology) in your BIOs setup when you boot your machine. Different machines will have different buttons to do this, but my PCs are F8, F10, and F12. You’ll need to google your machine’s BIOs start up and obviously have a separate Wi-Fi adapter. They range from $10->$100 depending on specs but for home use a $25 +\- adapter should suffice.

For those not getting reading package list..done and no updates try this as mention by @Pelleskov below: -> open your terminal inside Kali-linux -> cd /etc/apt/ -> nano sources.list Write this somewhere in there: deb http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free Make sure there is no # in front of the link Make sure your SPELLING is correct. Been trying for half an hour just to realize that I nano souces.list instead of sources.list

I'm running kali via WSL2 and can't get any sound when I'm watching at youtube videos, though the audio mixer shows variations of my output audio. In other words, I can see there's an audio output (the gauge is filling up & down), but I can't hear anything. And no, I'm not deaf, you jokers.
