Leaf guard took advantage of my mother in law. I've since removed and replaced those gutters. Their product clogged and caused major damage to the fascia over the 1.5 years they were up. It was an expensive lesson thanks to these scam artists.

Just found this video, #1... We hope and pray your husband is doing fine. Lost my wife in 2011 (signet ring cell carinoma). #2... I had 6" gutter with aluminum guards installed (did the guards myself), and I have never been happier. Not sure of you circumstances but people stop paying absurd amounts of money for simple things. This was a good learning lesson for EVERYONE. Remember, the gutters are attached to your facia boards and when they deteriorate the gutters will sag and possibly fall off your home if not repaired soon enough. I do hope that company rewards this so called refund/settlement etc.. no one needs this during hard times. I will admit, this is the first I have heard of any issues with this companies system albeit I have never looked into them due to cost. Good luck and again hope your family is well.

Ms. Brenda. Stand your ground. We all support you. Companies like these need to have their licenses revoked for false advertisements.

Yeah, that's always how I handle things and I never give in. I get things 100% MY way. I would have told them personally I was going to hire one of those attorneys that only gets paid if I do so that way, it does not cost me anything and I might not get anything as far as money goes but LeafGuard would be spending money on an attorney to fight me even if I end up with $0.

@@crp5591 Businesses don't always have enough business-losses to max out the tax reduction. They try to find more ways to max it out, by finding legalized ways to twist expenses into losses, that will save them money by not having to pay it in taxes.

Leaf guard is a sham. Run, don’t walk away from this company.

We recently went through a bad hailstorm in our area that did damage to our roof, gutters, siding, facia, vehicles, and the list goes on and on. While we are repairing and replacing all the damage, my wife insisted I replace our gutters with leaf guard gutters. After I watched your video I told my wife there was no way I would EVER put those gutters on our house. So THANK YOU for sharing your experience with us and saving us from what could have turned into a bad And expensive decision, and SHAME on LEAF GUARD GUTTERS for not owning up to their mistakes and taking better care of their customers. I was in business for 48 years before my recent retirement and I always told our staff to own our mistakes and fix the problem. A Happy customer will share their experience with a few people but an Unhappy customer will tell the world.

3 days later the view count is at 99K! I'm very glad this came up on my feed because hubby and I have been considering having these installed, but we have numerous 100-300 year old trees that surround our home and we'd be in the same situation as you if we got these installed. Now we will look elsewhere for a solution, so I thank you! The only thing worse than an overpriced product, is horrible customer service. This company seems to now have both problems.

When you get situated and/or if you have kids, just let them hire an attorney of your own, this is an easy case to prove and win, you can probably find someone who sees this video to represent you for free and even try to make it class-action for similarly-situated consumers for tens of millions and get your states attorney general involved. Great move LeafGuard - keep nickel and diming - I wonder how long to double the views again? @@MrForensics74 My property is covered in trees. I call them the gift that keeps right on giving. I resolved my issue by going with 5" gutters. To clean them, I bought a wet/dry shop vac, and a little kit designed for cleaning gutters. Even at 73 YO I can still clean my gutters in an hour or so.

Hardly a legally defining

I don’t know why the algorithm decided to present this video to me, but I am glad it did. I saw a LeafGuard booth at a local fair about a year ago, so I chatted with the rep and decided to get a quote. They came out that same day and gave me a quote on a single 40’ gutter. I was shocked by the high cost and decided not to do it. Since then, I get lots of texts and emails from them offering “employee-only pricing” deals that are only good for “the next 24 hours,” and such tactics just reek of scam to me. I appreciate your integrity and hope you’re able to find some proper relief from this mess. I’m going to seek your other video to get the back story. I hope your husband’s health has improved. I’m a contractor and have built lots of houses. I always had gutters installed on my houses, so I knew what they cost. Like you, saw them at the state fair, and they talked a good game, I needed new gutters on my own house so let them come out and give me a quote. After almost falling over when I looked at the estimate, I just laughed and handed it back. Outrageous. Now I see their ads on tv for special interest rates and no payments for 6 months. For gutters???

I’ve ran my own construction business for 40 years and this reinforces my viewpoint. There’s hardly anything that is maintenance free, especially gutters. I’ve dealt with them for years and usually periodic maintenance is a must. A gutter’s worst enemies are leaves and falling debris, especially if they start to break down before they are removed from the roof and gutters. Every situation can be a little different and present different problems. I’m glad I came across this video. Blessings!

Exactly. Unethical companies with well paid lawyers to protect them purposely push sincere folks. I don't even think it fair to say we have been duped. We have all been ripped off or taken advantage of at one time or another. That is repugnant - to take advantage of another.

Didn't take the "bribe"! SMOOTH! We seem "of an age"(I'm 64)! Litigate for refund,damages, 2yrs. of grief & aggravation & legal fees. GO GET 'EM LADY & Mr.!!

There are several versions under different names. I was suckered in by a 'owner' of Gutter Cap, many years ago. Same crap, different name. He swore there were inspections any time we requested, for life....yeah, if you want to pay them several hundred to inspect the system (usually look at them from the street back in those pre-drone times). After 10 years, we had them pulled off of there & I pay some young entrepreneur (college kid) to clean those gutters every year.

These crooks need to be investigated by the FTC

They really should be investigated. I had an estimate for gutters and the salesman started out at $11,800! By the end of all the discounts, he was down to $5,500...and it was just gutters WITHOUT the leaf guard!! I have a small, single-story home. The two estimates I got afterwards, were $2,100 and $1,500. I got the $1,500 deal that has a lifetime warranty, even against hurricane damage. Talk about PRICE GOUGING!

That's what I thought. It has to be far cheaper to just install them yourself. I grew up in a lower middle class household and I remember my father putting up gutters in the 70s. It's the same tech as today.

I had a ranch style house with gutters just on the front and back.........I went to Home Depot also....think i paid $50 to cover both ends...kept the leaves out of drain...usually a breeze would blow dry leaves out..did it myself...i saw their ads and bought my $50 ones..same idea too...

Please be careful putting guards over your gutters. Often they trap MORE debris in gutters because people think that they never need to check them. It's often much better to just blow out your gutters on a regular basis. When I moved into our current house, the gutters had 1-2" of DIRT under the leaf guards that the previous owners never cleaned out. Oh yeah, water under the house was a big problem for them, wonder why?

...and they are ridiculously expensive for a hunk of extruded (roll formed) metal. I could have my entire gutter system replaced 3x for what their caps cost. There is no system in existence that can stop my gutters from filling with locust leaves every fall. Clean them yourself or hire someone to do it. A fact of life.

I guess if your gutters are higher than 15' the pole grabbers might not be very easy to use. A gutter doesn't have to be perfectly clean. Just takeout the majority of the build up and all good.......I would think?

@@Helladamnleet They all clog because of the amount and small size of locust tree leaves. Cap systems and insert devices all cause the leaves to pile up on top, especially at the ends where the downspouts are.

Gotta love a company that not only needs to prey on the elderly or disabled, but also needs to bully them and make threats. That's how you can tell they have a product that legitimately works.

Crappy company. There are better and MUCH CHEAPER options out there. I had them come out for a quote. After a "dog and pony" sale pitch the quote was crazy high. So, I sent him along his way. The salesman then sits in his car in my driveway for about 8-10 minutes and then comes back. In short, he claimed he had to call in the office to report what happened and they offered me the same system TODAY ONLY for half the original quote. Some baloney story as to why TODAY I could get the same thing (from 10 minutes ago mind you) for half price. I hope this "pressure style" of BS no longer works for most people. Being in sales this is what gives us all a bad name and rep. So, I called his boss to complain and that smug man went on to brag about their $2M (if I remember correctly) in sales from the previous year and that their salesman did no wrong. Look further people-

I've had LeafGuard for 30 years and have been very happy with it. I paid cash for it, and did not get ripped off like this lady did. My opinion is that the LeafGuard product is fine, but some installers are total crooks.

@@incognitotorpedo42I have also had them for about 30 years. As I recall I was one of their early adopters in the Atlanta area. At that time I think the only people selling and installing was the original firm (I think) out of North Carolina. I think they have since closed. I recall they paid a royalty to the inventor (I think he was a fireman) of the product for every foot passed through the press. We get heavy rain here and I think I have a 9/12 pitch roof. They have served me well during this time and are still installed at this time. There is a valley that runs into a 3’ or so gutter. There is an issue in that section when there is a lot of rain, the water does not adhere to the gutter and find its way inside.

Stand firm! You are a beautiful and composed lady, and your husband is blessed to have you.

Please don’t blame yourself for making “the wrong decision.” You did nothing wrong; you were sold a faulty product. Thank you for your videos & for your bravery and honor to stand up to a corporation that’s trying to bully you and others. Brenda, thanks for sharing your story. I had Leaf Guard come to my house twice for estimates and both times my spidey senses went up as I had the feeling I was in an info commercial with the salesperson. They would not give me a hard copy estimate (red flag) and then stated: ""If you buy today there will be an X % discount" (another red flag in my book) the whole experience was just weird. Plus the the price was outrageous for their product. I would suggest people find an alternative product and STAY away from Leaf Gaurd.

We had Leaf Guard put on our house. Thought everything was fine but when the first thunderstorm hit they stopped up and the water came in under the eaves and into our house. We had a mess inside our house. My husband took them off the next day. Never again!

Have been in construction of home building all my life. Now retired and heard through advertising about this product. Called for a quote and laughed saying no way! So glad I didn’t . Blessings and thanks for speaking out. Truth means everything even if it costs us.

Those who would call you stupid are indeed deplorable!!! There are many people who were brought up with the “truth in advertising” laws and guidelines. No one comes out with a PSA campaign to inform the public that businesses can lie to you front back and center now and no one cares. We need more people like you that believe it is very important to spread the truth and protect others from this type of thievery imo!!! THANK YOU ❤

We changed our minds about this product when we saw some pilled up in a yard as trash. The home owner took them down.

Several years ago, I worked for a sun room company and they had similar gutters to sell as well. They put several gutters on the sun rooms as well as just gutters on peoples homes. EVERY one of the owners that got the gutters, either on the sun rooms and gutters that was put on homes made them take down the gutters, because of all the problems the gutters had. The company finally went bankrupt. Maybe LeafGuard will go under too. Stand your ground Miss Brenda and never let that company take hard earned money. God Bless.

I called this company to price gutters at my 86 yr old mom’s house. She just needed 15’. They quoted $4600. He gave us a price if they came out when they weren’t rushed. That price dropped to $2000. When he left, mom and I discussed it. She said if they’d add another 10’ to go around the front of her porch, she’d do it. I called him back and told him. He said he was out of town and would call back in a few days. He never called. I called him several more times. He said he’d be back and make the contract. He never came. This company is a scam. Bilk hard working people out of their money.

These types of companies will over quote a price, if you take it, they'll make a ton of money, if you don't, they will just move on to the next customer. Building contractors will do this too, especially roofers.

We were quoted 15,000 for our 1 story ranch home. I said NO THANKS. Called a regular gutter company, and we got our whole house done for like 1,050.00 I hope you do get a refund bc the longer your video stays up, the more people see it and will avoid this scammy company. Don't be surprised if they contact you again and offer a refund. Fingers crossed!

Hi there, I commented on your first video. We also bought Leafguard, in British Columbia Canada, through Costco. We've been unhappy with them almost from the beginning. There are no more Leafguard representatives in our area. So the lifetime warranty is worth nothing. Possibly like you, one of the reasons we chose Leafguard was the lifetime maintenance since we are seniors. I'm proud of you for deciding to help others. And nevermind the folks that "always" have the "you should have" advice after the fact. ❤

Glad to hear you stood on principal and didn't give in to the company. We had the same issues with ours and opted to go with larger gutters. That solved all our problems. Debris no longer gets stuck because there's plenty of room and during heavy rain, the gutters are wide enough to catch it all. So no more overflow. I hope your husband feels better sooner than later! I used to purchase cheap 8 x 12 brown envelopes and I'd tear an unwanted piece of junk mail into pieces, put it in a big envelope, seal it, address it to the advertising company, and write _postage due_ instead of putting a stamp on it. That way, the company had to pay to get it back through the mail system (and pay more because it was a bigger envelope). It felt good, and cost the trashy company money.

And the reality is, if folks have leaves or other cloggable material in their area, the reality is that gutters need maintenance - that's all there is to it. Either clean gutters or don't have them at all. Thanks again Brenda

That’s true! Was given an estimate of $8,300.00 for 63’ of gutters. 😲 Called a local company and $600.00 later - no more issues with overflowing gutters. Went from builder 5” to a 6” and all is well. Even had one of those ‘down pours’. Next step is getting some underground system to discharge all the water to the street via French Drain Man’s products.

6” gutters is the way to go and if you can get those “funnel” transitions between the gutter and downspouts, that’s even better.

As an Ohio resident, we can file a complaint with BBB and Ohio Attorney Generals Office for consumer affairs. A simple search on line or even a phone call asking about complaints, settlements, or ongoing litigation gives me a good idea of how a business treats customers and they run themselves.

You are not stupid! Leaf guard is so successful because they have a convincing sales pitch that lots of people fall for. I might have been one of them if I hadn’t seen your first video. I think you handled this settlement offer extremely well. I don’t doubt for a second that many before have taken it without knowing the tax obligation that came with it.

Thanks for you videos and sticking by your principles. Your experience and others like you have convinced me to look elsewhere for gutters on my home. Companies that don't put customer satisfaction as a top priority are surely doomed.

I recently received a quote from that same company. Not only were they the most expensive but the high pressure sales tactics were off the charts. I told them to go pound sand and glad I did. Side note: My father had leaf filters installed with his rain gutters. Turned out that the leaves would just sit on top of the filters and when it rained, caused water to back up under the shingles and water would leak down into the exterior walls. Thousands of dollars of damage.

How many floors?! Highest bid I ever wrote was like 12k for a beautiful 3 story with an inground pool in the backyard. That was around 10 years ago but still. Are they just straight shots of gutter? That's crazy.
