I think it's because we all grew up listening to her as the singing voice of our Disney princesses, that as a result, everything she sings gives us a cartoon picture lol! I completely agree. I love her so much omg!

This is the cleanest version ever! Ms. Lea has always been superb in her every performance. And she was pregnant during this one. She doesn't make "daya" in singing. Just PURE. Doesn't shout for high notes. No way we can ever compare her to other singers who shout and overpush their voices. Her voice is magical. She is PERFECT!

Wow she's gorgeous, can sing and she's funny as well? She's the whole package!

Man, it takes a lot of guts and strength from a professional singer to sing something for her fans that doesn't fit her voice. She made it her own and made it suit her even though you could tell when the song was challenging for her voice.

I love the way she rearranged Defying Gravity and The Wizard and I into one song...

No, she didn't. Idina Menzel had to do it once on television way back when because Kristin Chenoweth wasn't there, and Lea Salonga borrowed that idea.

Yesseniayaya Broadway/musical songs don't come with a "single version". That's why Idina Menzel had to adapt it (or have someone do it for her) so that she could sing it without Kristin Chenoweth.

I cant believe some people saying that Idina has more emotions, etc. for goodness sake, isn't that a surprise....she sang this song more than a hundred times....Lea just sang this once for this benefit concert....both singers are awesome.....stop comparing, and just enjoy.

And I thought I was the sole person on the planet who thought that Idina Menzel can't sing, sang "Let it go" (or rather WHEN she sang while she was yelling that song) poorly, and for whatever strange reason is the only CD available right now for "Wicked." If her version was the first time I heard "Defying Gravity" it would never have meant a thing to me.

Goosebumps from my arms down to my legs and vice versa. Awesome! She has an exceptional voice as if it is a choir group singing.

She's one of the only few singers who can express a thousand surge of emotions in one song.

I believe that if Lea had the role of Elphaba as her first starring role and also compared it to how Idina would sing it now...I truly believe that people would say things the other way around as like any other broadway stars who had their predecessors who ALWAYS and NEVER equal the Original. EMOTIONS, DELIVERY, PITCH, TONE, ENUNCIATION, BREATHING AND TECHNIQUE on how a song should be delivered and interpreted can be learned and perfected. But having to have one of the sweetest, clearest, pitch perfect voice in the world will and never will be replicated. "CINDERELLA became a princess, despite of everything she had. " I never heard of any WITCHES become a PRINCESS".

Imagine if there was a Filipino production of Wicked. Lea Salonga will make the perfect Elphaba and imagine her when she will be painted green.

Musicians in the Philippines who've worked with miss Lea said that not a single moment she missed a single note.

Lee Bonie not only in the phil, even in broadway not even once or in saigon, theres a rehearsal including the orchestra, when Lea sing everybody was looking at her because she had a diffrent key, when they check out it was only Lea who's in the right key.. even the orchestra is in wrong key.... thats how professional she was...

Lea Salonga is my favorite Broadway performer. I adore her. Her voice is magic. It touches a deep place in my heart that few musicians ever have.

Lea is amazing! Her voice is so pure and perhaps one of the most versatile in the business! I absolutely love her take on Defying Gravity. The instrumental Sun and Moon before she exited the stage gave me goose pimples! Incredible performance!

Good lord, no matter how many videos I watch of Lea sing I am always so in awe of her voice and there is just no one who I can think of that I would rather listen to over and over and over again like I can her. Sure there are some that have great voices (like LBB) but they are voices you just listen to a few times or so and that is it but with Lea I can just listen to her over and over again and not want to stop listening to her.

I got chills and the feels. She sings with such emotion. One of a kind. You're awesome Lea Salonga.

And this is why Lea Salonga is nothing short of a LEGEND.

after all these years. Her voice is still clear like they never matured. some singers developed those husky voice after years of singing

She sounded amazing, no surprise. She just didn't use her natural voice in hitting the high notes just like Idina does. But she can!!! I saw and heard her sing this song live. SO FREAKIN' AMAZING! AND I DON'T WANNA EVER COMPARE HER TO IDINA 'CAUSE I BOTH LOVE THEM SO MUCH! EQUALLY! BUT WE ALL KNOW IDINA WAS BORN TO BE ELPHABA, JUST LIKE LEA WAS BORN TO BE KIM. Nothing beats the original. she used her natural voice...not sure what an unnatural voice is. she was singing in her head voice for the higher notes, which was particularly clear, so it sounded reasonably good, considering she was imitating a belted note. that being said, i really like belted notes, and this performance didn't really do much for me, but i understand that many people love her, i just would point out that she is really a mezzo soprano, not a soprano, which made this a bad song choice for her...that being said, i appreciated her voice in this situation, and i love the way she has the guts to try to imitate something she knows is slightly beyond her, just to please the people she is entertaining...truly loving her fans is a great thing

shabytin Yes, but Idina Menzel has a larger range than her, and is particularly gifted at mixing her voice to reach notes that she wouldn't otherwise be able to hit, at least outside of her head voice.

She is smart to not go pure belting the whack out of this song cause she knows she will crack and also it will not do good on her voice if she did whilst Idina who abuses her belting power and now struggling on her live performances.

I can never get sick of Lea. She is amazing and her voice is perfect. I just love her voice and am amazed how far she has grown. She was beautiful in the 25th anniversary of Les Misèrables. I watch that for her (and Alfie Boe).

She tries to hard, she needs to bring the high notes down an octave or I would agree. Amazing. Idina is very nasal and broken. Both amazing let’s not lie. Just very different
