One of the most TENSE moments in J! history. Very well-fought final match by all 3 players.
I like how the automatically generated subtitles call Matt Amodio "Madam Rodeo." I think he should embrace that.

The generated subtitles butcher his name and Mattea's! 😂 I've seen "Madame Odio" and "Matamorio" the most frequently. I've never seen "Madam Rodeo"! 😭 And Mattea's is always "mate", "materia", and the closest one is "Matteo". 😂

Such an awesome tournament! There have been so many awesome contestants over the last few years, and it's awesome to see the camaraderie and love of the game.
I knew the quote was about King Arthur, but I didn’t know who wrote it.
As a fellow Canadian, well done Matea. You did amazing.
The only reason why I got this is because Thomas Malory was one of the comparatively few known writers of the 15th century.
This was a great FJ clue! Congrats to all the contestants!
So, Ken, when will you stop ducking a rematch with James? 🤣🤣
While there were a lot of twists throughout this competition, I ultimately didn't like this tournament so much just because it felt like the 2022 Tournament of Champions + James Holzhauer. 😕

There definitely were some players from previous years who belonged in this tournament. There really wasn’t any criteria to get into this tournament. They didn’t earn their way in. Michael Davies simply picked people from his tenure as producer, plus a James. Im sorry to say that I think Davies is more interested in ratings than he is in the integrity of the game. This was a ratings event, which doesn’t take away from James' incredible domination.

Can we just give Mattea credit for beating James in a game? She was super formidable during this match.

@joannek6267 I would have gotten the correct answer (Thomas Malory) if I were there, but I doubt that I could have reached that far in the game. I'm no match for these Masters' knowledge and gameplay skill.
As a big King Arthur nerd I was yelling at my screen. I don't speak latin but the phrase was easy to figure out. I was shocked nobody got it. Just goes to show what you think is obvious information can be obscure to others.
Congrats to James! The champ! 🏆
*Once I saw the confused look and flailing hands, I knew Mattea lost. They are still a great player and they'll be back!!*
Congratulations, James!
I actually got this right thanks to Lady of Shalott! 😂
Pre final jeopardy of the second game mattea was leading on aggregate. She is only 23. Megastar. After this tournament, I understood mattea and James are even better than their streak suggests
To have those four masters in the same room: legend
I wonder how different the Finals would've gone if Andrew played. 😂😭
@2.33 Ken Jennings is actually mistaken. James is NOT the first Jeopardy Master's winner. Brad Rutter won the Jeopardy Master's Tournament in 2002 and he won a 1 Million Dollars. James only won $500, 000. Perhaps Jeopardy's budget is coming up short.
@ajsy1090

J! Million Dollar Masters tournament is an one time tournament as they celebrated their 4000th episode on syndication, while J! Masters is now most likely an annual competition on primetime which will attract more younger viewers (18-49 demographic) to tune in. James' stint on J! attracted ABC to do primetime version of J! like GOAT, NCC, CJ and now JM.

This makes Ken Jennings the only non-master participant in the Jeopardy GOAT tournament. Also, I want Brad to come back, but he’s been slowing down in performance (as seen in his most recent participation)
Pretty expensive question, $250000 if Mattea knew it
Don't know Latin. Many years ago I read half of Morte D'Arthur but didn't remember the quote, but have read the T H White novel twice. Rex Futurus is the giveaway.

I knew what the latin quote meant, but i didnt know what author they were talking about.
I knew the phrase was "The Once and Future King..." but I had no idea who the author was, so I went with Kit Marlowe.
did they just blatantly copy the Fifa world cup trophy lol?
i hope someone reads this. sometimes in final jeopardy i have NO idea what they are asking for. how did everyone know it was the author and not the work? ha, what am i not seeing here. thanks all.

It's in the sentence construction . "By this 15th century writer" is the open ended part so you know they are looking for the writer. If it had said "A 15th century writer used the following latin phrase in this work" then you would know they were looking for Le Morte D'Arthur (Mallory's collection of stories about King Arthur). Often words like "this" or "that" indicates the missing bit but not always.

Mattea has a chance to pull it off in next year's Masters Tournament. Hopefully, the 3rd time will be the charm for Mattea to beat James, and knowing that James Holzhauer is a professional sports gambler with the phrase "The House Always Wins", there will be a day where James' house burns down. No, I don't mean his real house. It is perfectly fine. I mean his poker chips when it comes to gambling.
I was honestly hoping Mattea would win this one, but after what happened the last time Mattea & James were close in score, I should’ve known this would happen 😮

@theweysermanisback5205

I hope so.
For anyone else to win, would have been an injustice. They need to adjust the scoring next year, but Americans just love to create drama. Look at the Fed-Ex Cup, a players dominates an entire year and all they get in the final tournament is a 2 stroke edge. Stupid. If someone dominates like James did, they shouldn't have to win double jeopardy round in the final game. They should have enough points racked up to win, let others play for second & third & fourth.
As a Canadian I am so proud of Mattea. She is just amazing. But congratulations to James, who throughout this championship has shown a much more compassionate side. And let's not forget Matt!!

Congratulations, James and this was a GREAT tournament and I enjoyed it!
I read an article today criticizing the change in Jeopardy! from a "game show" to an "intense competitive event," but I completely disagree. This tournament has been the climax for the increasingly intense style of jeopardy where game play is more optimized, wagers are more risky, and there are more super champions and I thoroughly enjoyed it. James Holzhauer has changed the game like no one else before him.
i'm sure Mattea is kicking herself for not wagering $0. She would've won.
Wow if Mattea had bet more in the first game she would have walked away the winner.
OMG THEY ALL GOT IT WRONG AND I GOT IT RIGHT!!!!!!!
If Mattea had bet $0 (since they could not be touched this round) - would've had enough to secure 1st place. How do you get to Masters and suck so bad at wagering in FJ?

But if James bets it all and doubles up, he wins. There's not really a "right bet" here because of the 2 games being factored in.

Mattea had to bet enough to beat James if they both got it right . James had nothing to lose if he bets it all and is wrong he is still in 2nd place so Mattea had to think he was going to bet it all.

I’m glad that after outlasting three other top Jeopardy players, taking one of the best Jeopardy players of all time to the limit in the finals…all while still reeling from the loss of their father at a young age during this competition…that this was the most relevant comment you could make. You don’t have to like every one on the show…and frankly, it’s not any contestant on the show’s job to entertain you. Mattea is a true Jeopardy! champion even if they’re not your favorite.
