@@manybikes Mainly as tyres relate between one another. Especially the Dunlops, Mission and Raid (the mutants have dropped off my list a while back)... I am not a hardcore off-roader, but when touring I do find myself on some rough surfaces sometimes. I found the tyres that came original from the factory, on my CB500X 2019, perfectly exceptable for my style of riding. I only felt the rear give one time, on the road, in the two years I have ridden them, and that was a surface contamination issue in a turn. But they do suffer on gravel, graded surfaces etc. I have about a half an inch of chicken strip on the sides, I am not aggressive. Their thread is wearing out in some spots but I believe the Missions will be a huge upgrade. Longevity was also a big factor since sometimes I cover long distances at a time, across Italy on the Highway in order to get to Europe, from the south of Sicily and past the Alps.

Thanks Kyle for another awesome review. Having a look at the Dunlop Raid, looks like it will have more difficulties in Mud and gettibg out of ruts, due to the smaller voids in the middle and the edge of the tyres is very low profile and rounded...very good for road cornering, but crap for off road when you need that side bite to get you out of the rut.

Kyle, looking forward to your Raid tires review. As Raids are the softest of these should be the sportiest - best/stickiest for the twisties - correct assumption? For me it will be AX41 or this new Trailmax Raid when I want some more street oriented setup to ride hard without sacrificing off road performance too much. I am usually on Motoz Rallz rear and Pirelli MT21 Rallycross front (I dont like Motoz front tire on tarmac) very good combination but not as good to put knee down which is possible with AX41 - but with AX41 it is not confident inspiring so Trailmax Raid might be knobby "sporttires" hopefully . Thank you for video.

You're always the best source for ADV tire reviews! I had a chance to chat with you at Get on ADV fest Black hills 2022 about the K60 Rangers you were testing at the time. I bought a set of Motoz Adventure/Dual venture tires based on your reviews. They performed great in the dirt and cornered surprisingly well on the street. My only issue, was that on my 1250 GSA, they had a terrible weave at highway speeds. The weave was less noticeable after a few thousand miles. I just ran a set of MItas E07+ (Dakar on the rear) tires 7000 miles from Utah to Alaska and back. On my GSA they are hands down the best handling ADV tires on the street that I've tired. The rear was completely gone after 7000 miles but the front has a lot of life left in it. I feel like the Motoz Adventure will last as long as the E07+ on the rear without giving up anything on the street, but work better off-road. I think my new go-to setup will be a Motoz Adventure rear and an E07+ front tire. Anyway, thanks for all of the good work.

Don't think it is stable because of being heavy. Most likely because it is a more road oriented tyre and behaves better at high speeds. People which have stability issues on the KTM probably are using the stock Karoo 3 or more knobbie tyres which tend to be more unstable at high speeds.

@@manybikes totally agree¡ Also tyre pressure and good balancing of the wheel is important. When I was running the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, having the front tyre at 2.5bar made it kind of unstable at high speeds +160km/h, just dropping 0.2bars the front to have it at 2.3bars made the trick, stability recovered for high speeds. Specially radial tyres, are very sensitive to tyre pressure. Same with the suspension setup, increasing a bit the preload can bring some weight o the front end, and increase stability.

Have run all of these except the Trailmax Raid yet (thanks to Kyle's feedback). The Trailmax Missions were surprisingly good off road, in dry conditions, far better than they had any right to be, were great on pavement, and real high wearing. In muddy conditions, they were awful - downright dangerous, front end grip was like a light switch, went down hard a couple times with little to no warning. The AX41s were a great off road tire... for up 1,000 miles on the rear, however pavement performance was awesome, great feedback and high grip, overall life was 2k miles on the back and 4k on the front. Have got 700 miles on the Motoz ADV/Dual Venture Front. Great front end grip, progressive in a slide, doesn't quite put down power as well as I had hoped in hard packed gravel, but best grip in mud out of the three. On road, they are okay, finding them less confidence inspiring on twisty pavement then the other two tires. Looking forward to trying out the Trailmax Raid next

I actually love Pirelli but they really don’t have a tire in this specific segmented. Rally STR is much more street oriented and the real Rally is a full knobby not made in this size anymore. I do love the brand though and would love for them to produce a tire in the 60 Dirt 40 street category.

I see. I actually thought the (non-STR) Rally would qualify as a 50/50 or 60/40 and had it in my top 3 choices to replace the STR that come with the T7. I do mostly road (and find the STR amazing for the job) but need something better for the occasional dirt, while compromising wet road as little as possible (no hill climbing scares me as much as wet asphalt). I’m also very much interested in the new Trailmax Raid (and the good old (non-Dakar) Mitas 07+). Anyway, they seem to provide the Rally in 90/90 21 and 150/70 18. Am I wrong? Many many thanks for any advise or insight / Dave

Wear is one thing, there are lots of factors that contribute to that. What it does help tell is stickiness of the rubber. How easily the surface conforms around the gravel and objects the tire surface is rolling over. Rubber composition, tire pressure, load temperature and road surface are the biggest wear factor contributors.

Hi Kyle Im running a Motoz dual venture front adventure rear on both my Dr650 and Tiger 900 RP. The DR is fine no issues great tyres. On my Tiger however, I get front end bounce @ 50-70 km/h with the DV, which im told can happen on heaier bikes. Have you come across this? Ive tried tuning it out with pressures and suspension tuning with no effect.

  • @manybikes

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. Most often, bounce is caused by a balance issue. I’d remove the wheel and check balance. If it’s off by a lot, I’d de-bead the tire and spin it 1/4 … then check balance again. Do this until it’s close and finish with wheel weights. Most cases, thus eliminates the bounce. Please follow up with your results. The tires should run smooth as glass… with no Hop whatsoever

Hi Kyle! I have a crf1100. I have tubes and I'm struggling to find tyres that are designed to take tubes! I understand in a tubeless you can put a tube, but the inside of the tyre rubbing on the tube creates heat, and therefore more prone to a puncture! As they aren't made for tubes, they will also lose psi, maybe 2psi a week! I wonder if you can do a tyre review, tube specific!

  • @manybikes

Thanks for the comment / request. 10 years ago I would have agreed with you. But today most of the modern Adv tires are tube type tires that havre modernized tubeless type beads air tight carcasses made for tubes or no tubes. The Motoz, Anakee, Karoo, and Mitas tires are specially made for both applications. Robust enough for a 600 lb. machine able to accommodate both tube type and tubeless rims. Now… OLDER tubeless tires… I wouldn’t use a tube in… I’ll do some more discussion with the manufacturers individually and see what each of their thoughts are respectively. Stay tuned!!!

It is the heat cycle when you first put them on. There are several instances where the tread came loose from the casing here in RSA, and a lot of speculation on pressure, speed and the so-called heat cycle. I just replaced my rear after almost 19000km's (mostly tarmac) and put on another one. Cold weather grip is reasonable, so too gravel. Happy with the balance, but would like more grip. But as you say more grip > less mileage

The compromises each tire gives us! Heat cycles like you mention are not necessary to "break in" a tire. Scrubbing them in IS important, but heat cycling not so much. Low pressure will KILL a tire though, that is for sure!

Everyone I know who has a dual sport bike would gladly sacrifice a little extra weight and knob squirm on pavement for deeper tread and a longer-lasting tire. The manufacturers could offer one tire with the shorter tread depth and the same tire with the deeper tread depth. I guarantee the deeper tread depth would sell much better.
