    Honestly even though Hikaru drew and Gukesh won, today was pretty optimal for Hikaru. He got a quick draw and got a few extra hours to prepare for tomorrow. Gukesh had to play a long tiring game and that might affect his play tomorrow, even if it is by just a little. Hikaru has to play insane tomorrow. A draw is no different than a loss

    Hikaru, I believe in you! Can you imagine the history? First American champion since Fischer, Second official American champion, Third American champion ever (counting unofficial Morphy) and the route to do so requires a must win with white in round 14 of the candidates to pave the way to a match where he can beat the man who took his chance by beating him in a must win round 14 with white in the last candidates?! Stuff of legends. Become the legend. You can do it!

    @@thimobaumgartner8673 IMO the classical portion of Fabi-Magnus (2008) was the best world championship match at least since I started following world championship matches in 2008. Sure, all of the games were drawn, but not a single one of them was a stale non-fighting draw; both sides found themselves in trouble and had to play resourcefully to avoid losing at times, and overall the fact that all the games were drawn was because both players played _really, really well_ and didn't quite make big enough mistakes to lose, not because they played safely. IMO it would've been much better if the match had been longer (e.g. a 24-game match) like many of the historic world championship matches. It would've given time for a just result to be revealed for the classical world championship. As is, it feels kind of like they said, "Eh, we don't want to have a long match like they used to, so let's just give the crown to the world rapid champion."

    It's very nice to see Hikaru pretty relaxed and pressure not affecting him for the final round. People are saying he didn't care but to me it's clear as a sunny afternoon that in the 1st half of tournament when he fudged up the aura of recaps was vastly different. It's very nice to see him feeling the positive momentum and with a real chance for the final success.

    Levy pointed out a little fun fact during commentary - the game did not actually end in a 3-fold repetition because in the first instance of the final position en passant was possible. Doesn't change the result of course, but interesting technicality

  • @NJ-ky9jm

    @NJ-ky9jm

    Ай бұрын

    You’re incorrect, it was a 3-fold. The commentators initially incorrectly thought that Hikaru had the opportunity to make the claim, but he didn’t because of the en passant option. Therefore it was claimed by Nepo on his turn and was the third iteration of the position. No draws by agreement before move 40.
