LARGE Pasta Board Build - Maple

Purchase this board (Canadian orders only): www.cooperbuilds.ca/shop
In this video I show you how I made a large reversible maple pasta board. Also known as a dough kneading board, this surface is great for baking without making your counters a mess. The board is made from premium maple hardwood. The surface is held together with biscuit joints and wood glue. The sides of the board are also held together with biscuits but with larger slots and have an additional screw in each corner. This was designed to allow the main part of the board to expand seasonally. The board is 39" x 21" and 3/4 inches in thickness. The 1 1/4 inch maple lips allow the board to "hook" onto the side of the counter so it does not shift when in use.
Thanks for watching!

I like your dough/pasta board, I’m over here in Scotland, I generally make charcuterie boards. Mainly as a hobbie, but have been asked to make a similar board that you have made yourself. I also noticed that old Diamond Back Mtn Bike in your workspace must be a 90’s model with that paint design. Happy wood working.

for the sides (lips) - what size board did you use? are they 2" Thick or did you stack/glue boards?

the part that sticks up (lip) is a 1.25 x 1.25 inch piece that is glued along the edge to allow it to catch on the side of the counter. I also used 2 screws hidden under some wooden dowels to hold it in place

I'm curious if the opposite gran direction of ends caused problems.

It does not. Im assuming your referring to wood expansion. The board is designed to allow the wood to expand through the seasons. The reason for the side peices on the ends is for aesthetics and helps keep the board flat over time.

You glued the biscuits that were cut larger in place, thus locking them in place and not allowing the wood to expand.

I recommend cleaning the board with a damp cloth after each use. Every few months you should add some mineral oil and beeswax (I sell board conditioner or any cutting board conditioner from Amazon works). This helps keep the wood from drying out!

Could you alter the dimensions to say 24”x36”. In my experience I roll the dough forward more than side ways. Therefore more depth than width would make sense
