if you think sadness is beautiful, then its not sadness, but something like melancholy. sadness isnt beautiful. not even lana can make this happen.

This feels like one of Lana’s most underrated songs. Hauntingly beautiful progression through a story of loss, acceptance and beauty of heartbreak. It doesn’t rely on a repetitive chorus to fill out the socially accepted length of a song, it’s almost 5 minutes of raw, gut wrenching honesty and reflection. Pure work of art.

In my opinion, this record is very powerful. I feel like at some point Lana was broken and the people closest to her put her back together piece by piece, and now she’s healing. Friends and family are very important during the healing process. Sometimes calling on them can be life changing if you have nowhere else to turn.

Lana saves my life every album she releases, I remember when I wanted to die cause my mum was dead and I wanted to go with her but Lana’s songs, her sadness and her healing trip in the songs conveyed by her voice… she saved my life. Then I had a breakup, a toxic relationship while I was still depressed for everything, and the only voice in that tunnel was always HER voice… and now, that I have to heal and live with my past trauma, she is here with theese songs!!! ❤

Very nice 👌. I get that happening often. If I'm watching her videos on big screen whilst listening even more so. Girlfriend thinks my music addiction is over the top...comparing it with the much younger generation obsession with phones/social media. Yet we stick solid because it's a passion that helps tether my anger & calms my mind. Body. & soul. Yes that time honoured saying is true...

I really enjoy the symbolism in this song. The title it’s self could be translated to blue=sad & Banister=support/safety. These are topics that I resonate the most with. As Lana invites those who are closest to her in her life to help her feel safe and supported when she is sad is something we all need to be reminded of. We are never alone, there is always someone there to talk to when we are at our lowest points. Friends are one of the most important ingredients in our lives. 🤍

I always felt that the symbolism was that a bruise is blue/purple at first and then when it heals it turns green/grey. So I feel like she’s saying her sisters helped heal her wounds from the guy

The video and lyrics hint at rain which could be why blue banisters turn into grey at the end, because of rain that takes all the colors with time, its also a great metaphor for grief and healing with time.

Saw her in 2012 in the UK. Got her autograph on my t - shirt after the gig. Video Games is peerless. I prefer the Lizzy Grant album personally but glad she’s made the big time.

I hate how much this song is underrated, perfectly captures that depressing melancholic feeling, and how lana is trying to heal of her past, and past loves surrounding with her "sisters" captures those good moments that you dont value but is when you really feel happiness, that you can be depressive but you can grow, accept, adapt, be grateful for what is around you and enjoy the moment, Those moments that you would remember nostalgic, how she paints, spends time with her family and smiles more... That's why is so beautiful and you see lana happy even tho she is not fully. People like more her early works for the rhythm but if you focus on blue banisters and you understand the poetic lyrics and listen to the beautiful vocals it floods you with this melancholic but beautiful feeling and you realize how much lana has grown as a person and how she show us it capturing it in her art

I'm sure many can relate to this song and video. Smiling, acting happy, trying to hide her inner turmoil has been captured beautifully. Lana Del Rey really doesn't get enough credit for her artistry.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen myself more in any visual depiction of just how fluid our emotions can be in any given moment, at any given time. Vibrant, lighthearted, engaged - in the same breath detached, pensive, somber. I don’t think either has ever completely canceled the other out in my case. This song takes that feeling and expresses it sonically, lyrically, and now visually in this video. The ups and downs of moving forward with the help of the people we love most. Continue we must. 💛

I am so happy that we still have bewitching female artists like this in music.

People say that the music deserved a better video, but I think the video is very fit for the music. It seems like it was taken with a simple camera, low on saturation and lightness, depicting her sadness. She is sad, even in the video, as she is trying to move on with the help of her friends, hanging around in her place, doing everything and nothing. The video is simple; no special effects, no bright colors, no dancing lights. The video is her sadness depicted. And sadness is blue, like her banisters, raining like the sky, it feels like breathing in sleep, deep and slow.

@@moonlight.z6543 actually it doesn't though It looks like ungraded LOG footage from a quality cinema camera. I guess Arri Alexa. A simple camera wouldnt have the same dynamic range and look as this footage. A simple camera like a camcorder probably would have oversaturated colors and way more sharpening then what im seeing here.

Actually I love the video it's very simple and dreamy, the tones are subtle and neutral, it fits beautifully the song.

I can’t believe this album isn’t receiving that much love! This is one of her best albums

I love the line at 4:08, her cadence throughout the song is very interesting, but the way she stutters on sisters is so satisfying. Like she’s thinking of saying friends but then changes to sisters.

I hope this album’s isn’t a goodbye. Kind of feels like one sometimes with her deactivating her Instagram and mentioning wanting to “leave” and her kind of fu attitude in Arcadia, for instance. I hope she’s just in a more self reflective time in her life and that she’ll come back ❤️

Even if she leaves .. she's given us so much content the past few years. I'll be happy even if she leaves, she'll be living her life and perhaps when or if she comes back, we will have so much more content.

To be honest, it kind of always feels like that whenever the singles are released. Songs like Swan Song and The Greatest make it sound like she is quitting the industry but she hasn't yet at least

Exactly what I thought this whole album feels very lizzy and raw

Ive been a lana fan for a long time, and ive cried to a couple of her songs before but… nothing like with this one. It just struck something in me, now it never fails to turn me into putty. Every single time i hear this song i start bawling my eyes out, and every time i need to cry i come to this song. Sometimes just singing it to myself is enough to make me cry like a little baby. It’s beautiful, its sad, it’s hopeful. She’s so unbelievably sad but she’s getting better and her sisters are there for her, the display of sorority is beautiful and she’s so honest and vulnerable, and it really comes through.

This song destroys me too, i always listened to it when i was depressed. That’s why i kinda ruined this song for me. It is so beautiful, but it reminds me of all the bad things that happened to me.

This really encapsulates the feeling of abandonment, and the replacement behaviors and rituals we create to not fall to darkness. So much this. I am dealing with aging parents and would never wish that on her but it's a fact of life and when the day comes I hope she can find find peace in her music and lead us along the way. I love the woman that she has become even more than the woman she has always been. I felt like White Dress hit me hard but BB hits me even really harder.

Her music is poetry and I wish more people appreciated her style.

That’s Lana’s plan is doing Satan a favor collecting souls into having people listening to her trap that manipulates the mind into thinking that her music will make anyone positive, but she is one back stabber and can heal her small depression due to a breakup. Secondly I’ve converted myself into a satanist due to being rebellious against the Holy Gods will and I’ve spoken to Lucifer by chanting out his demonic enn. Lana, your poetry is so complex and has so much symbolism. You're the poet of our generation. I love you.

I love that she has been belting a lot lately. Her range is so impressive.

The most important thing that Lana has taught me so far is that we should always enjoy the moment, enjoy our lives, be crazy and wild and always try to have some fun. Sometimes all we need is to be ourselves, cuz in the end of the day, we are unique.. just the way we are.

This song literally hits me so deep. The lyrics, her voice, the instrumental, everything is just magical and nostalgic.

This song is so beautiful yet sad. You can feel Lana's pain and sadness and see it while she as filming. This song is a story about something that happened in her life. "there's a hole in my heart.'

She's wearing the dress from the cover, there's a picture on the wall with her on a John Deere, we see Tex & Mex (or one of) right there, Chuck is actually making birthday cake, and her girls are painting her (brown) banisters gray........ My life is complete, thank you Lana!!! I love this song SO much and was hoping for a music video for it!

If I had the opportunity to thank lana for this album I wouldn't hesitate to take it. I don't think I've ever felt more touched in my life- I find myself crying everytime but it makes me feel so at peace with myself and the world.

The Millennial Torch Song Extraordinaire. She's a good story teller and she has that film noir quality to her exposition in these songs. I never understood the backlash against her. She matured as an artist and has gotten better which is rare and exceptionally difficult for most musicians and singers.

every time i hear this song i get emotional because it's clearly about losing someone you really loved and saw a future with/about someone that went away and how you never really lose that feeling, but with help from other people you start to build other kinds of feelings that outgrow that loss. i love how this video describes it. this song and lana's vocals are some of her most beautiful work. 💟💟💟

This really hurts. I’m going through exactly what’s she’s going through. I really loved him but there were some misunderstandings and now we haven’t talked for 2 weeks and I still miss him everyday. I long for him and emotionally I’m at the lowest :( I think I’ll always love him and wait for him to come back with open arms because I know I lost something unique. Every time I feel like I’m over him I cry again knowing I’m not. I’m still learning to heal and forget and forgive. Lana’s music is helping me get through this and release.
