It's irresponsible of government to allow shanties and slums to expand to this level before actions are taken. Lagos state government is doing a lot but do not have the political will to do the right thing at the right time. Oshodi interchange environs is looking shanty. Market and yellow buses taking over the highway.

LASG needs to create ANTI SLUM unit in buildings department that prevents slums from developing. Their job will be to scan riverine areas, under bridges, abandoned projects, road sides, train station to make sure people do not turn them into shanties. Once a population reaches about 200, government must remove the occupants.

It's the responsibility of govt to remove illegal structure immediately it is being erected. After sleeping 4 do many years. It is shameful that lagos state govt has woken up. What Jakande built was called low-cost housing for the poor. The owners of the jakande flats should not be intimidated or evicted. They have legal documents of sale/purchase from govt. Lagos needs more parks, green areas. Lagosians are human being who deserves good life. These area need more recreational areas, public courts like basketball or tennis and football. Don't choke every where with building.

Yes, Makoko is next and no going back. The Makoko in Benin Republic is one of the cleanest but the same people turned Nigeria into a shit hole and refused to leave when Lagos state made attempts to relocate them. The environment is unhealthy for humans and especially children. The whole world talks about it and continues to donate to this community with no improvement on their lives. Many of these people have built houses alonh the border of Ogun state and Cotonou but decided to turn that part of Lagos to a slum. They go back to their villages across the border during the festive season, so they have options of living a better life. They should relocate to Epe or Badagry to continue their fishing and never be allowed to build houses on stilts

@@FERESE, you are right about Makoko in Benin Republic but don't forget that they have good government, and they are not greedy people. There is a lot of money flowing in Lekki Axis alone than the entire Benin Republic and it is understandable that they will want to stay. Yoruba unless Obas are the first thing to root out in Lekki. Elegushi is one of the culprits. Tout-tolls collectors, redlight districts by the beaches create this peculiar mess. While Obas' power is titular, their influence shapes Lekki to the 6th world country's status. Plus, we don't have government or you have people who refuse to use their brains like the smart politicians from saner climes.

@@FERESE what do you mean by "go to their States"? Is this not the same Nigeria? Are there not lagosians in Kano(the centre of commerce), plateau, Anambra and the rest? Lest you forget, the only reason Lagos is this advanced compared to the other states is because it was once the capital of Nigeria, meaning it was built on the collective wealth of the country, northerners, the Yorubas, Igbos AND EVEN THE GHANIANS before the Ghana must go era, all contributed to building this city(the same is happening to Abuja right now) so saying go to your state isn't fixing anything. Lagos is the land of opportunity as wealth is gathered here so ofcourse they'll come, govt. Should provide affordable housing schemes and stop playing
