Ibadan Nigeria 🇳🇬, They Refused To Show You! || Other Parts Of Ibadan Without Brown Roofs

Ibadan is the capital of Oyo State in Nigeria and the city is known for brown roofs. In this video I will be showing other beautiful places in Ibadan that does not have brown roofs.
From Wikipedia, Ibadan (Ìbàdàn) is the capital and most populous city of Oyo State, in Nigeria. It is the third-largest city by population in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano, with a total population of 2,649,000 as of 2021, and over 3 million people within its metropolitan area. It is one of the country's largest cities by geographical area. At the time of Nigeria's independence in 1960, Ibadan was the largest and most populous city in the country, and the second-most populous in Africa behind Cairo. Ibadan is ranked one of the fastest-growing cities in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the UN Human Settlements Program (2022). It is also ranked third in West Africa in the tech startups index. Ibadan joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2016.

Do you think tourists are coming to see a brown shacks roof? Brown roofs symbolises nothing about culture rather its an old style that should be gradually modernise. As you want your opinion about the preservation of the old roof to be heard ypu should respect and accomodated the opinions of those like me who are of different opinion. We all love the modern areas of Ibadan. I am a born Nigeria living in Europe for more than 35 years. I watched most of your videos for years now. Welldone.

Definitely everyone is entitled to their opinions, but some of those buildings already changed their roofs, but the roofing sheets being used will turn brown from the initial whitish color after few years. Those roofing sheets are the cheapest in the market and most people prefer it in those areas. So except they go for the modern ones that does not change colors later, that’s the only way to gradually replace the brown roofs. Thank you 🙏…..

Good to see South West living up to the standard we all deserve....integrating Ibadan with Lagos level will further expose Southwest to prosperity and industrialisation. I like the fact that Ibadan has modern cities and as well kept the traditional Ibadan city. Ibadan also seem to have more inner roads in unpopular areas than Lagos. As for Ibadan, you only see as much as you can look.. Ibadan houses a good number of research centres both national and global consortium as well as universities, public and private. Most of the brown roof building are located in the ancient areas. They are private houses and except individual renovate them, it is a no, no issue for a government except you do not want the government to do any other things. Ibadan is the second largest city in Africa mind you? In Ibadan, the modern handshakes with the ancients.

One thing with most yorubas is the corny nature of always trying to give excuses for everything. Na Wetin land all of us for where we dey today in Nigeria. I’ve lived in Ibadan for 11 years before I permanently relocating to Enugu, and I want to say the main reason is because of these kinds of old structures which never goes away and it drives me insane. When I got to Enugu I felt like I was in South Africa which should’ve been the case. That was also my first experience of the south east. See..The UK is also an old place so is many parts of lagos and porthacourt, even Benin. But maintenance and steady upgrading culture is what makes the difference. We can have historic buildings like makpo hall and so but not keeping such homes everywhere and claim it’s heritage. And when people call out about it they feel bad which goes a long way to show the people need to work hard to improve their standards of living in terms of housing. One thing you won’t take away from Ibadan is the good people of the state asides the current surge of tribalism all over Nigeria imposed on us by politicians and we fall for it leaving the real issues on ground. while they loot and steal away our common wealth. The only reason the igbos seem to be different in terms of housing is because they’re very resilient people and hence everyone is literally competing to become better then the next person. The only problem they’ve had in the past years had been good roads in some states which they’ve started fixing all over. I think most Yoruba should learn from them and stop expecting government to do everything which they’ll never do. I love the city and I still have friends in Ibadan but I needed an environment much better to some extent. Honestly na Nigerians go save Nigeria because if that 90b was for example handed over to Muslim youths which Yorubas will gain a lot from, I’m sure many will make money and upgrade their homes. Even the government can subsidize grants for this things but they’ll never do it. Atleast makinde is trying but the people have to step up their game. There’s no excuse for having such building. Atleast get them renovated like it’s done in Britain then call it a heritage project.

So are you saying those houses should be destroyed and rebuilt?. Probably those people talking this nonsense don’t have any heritage or history in their families and their forefathers didn’t built houses they can cherish. My family house is in Oja Oba area of Ibadan and my father built other houses in Challenge and Ring road area of Ibadan. We have areas we call “Agbo ile “ that is where our forefathers settled or live before the Morden days. So please be guided
