Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway:Landmark Beach Controversy, Ahmadu Bello way & Eleko Axis Construction

In this video, we will be taking a look at the ongoing construction of the Lagos - Calabar Coastal highway which will run from Ahmadu Bello way in Victoria Island Lagos all the way to Calabar in cross-rivers state. The 700km highway way will connect different states across the coastal areas of the country from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross rivers with two spurs. The first spur connecting Badagry to Sokoto while the second spur will connect Enugu to Abakaliki to Ogoja then to the border of Cameroon.
The project will be constructed in different phases and sections, presently Phase 1 section 1 is under construction which runs from the junction of Ahmadu Bello way with Adetokunbo Ademola in Victoria Island to Lekki Deep Sea port in Lagos which is 47.47kms.
There have been series of controversies on the project particularly about demolition that will be carried out at Landmark beach resort and other resort that falls on the Right of Way of the highway.
As a result of this I will be taking you to three locations along the right of way of the project to see what’s ongoing.
The first location is Ahmadu Bello way besides Eko Atlantic which is the starting point then will proceed to see the Landmark beach to see how the high way will connect and also see where might be probably demolition along the shoreline and the third Lacation will be the Eleko Area towards Eleko beach, to see what’s happening with the construction in that axis as well.

All beach resorts require access to the beach, by constructing a highway right between the resorts and the beach is more or less destroying all those businesses. The government might not be pulling down the structures but constructing the road where they are planning as the same effect. True the government owns the land but they should also be sensitive to the established businesses along the corridor. going through the preexisting road in front of the landmark resort would have been a no-brainer for the government.it’s not always that you have to flex your federal might especially if there is an alternative.

Reading some comments on this platform shows the level of ignorance of some of our Nigerians. No steady light supply, no health care centers, no pipe borne water, no food, no salaries paid to workers and pensioners, no good public schools, insecurity everywhere, Naira falling like cassava leaves, no jobs, university graduates are keke n'apepe and Okada riders ,hundreds of dilapidated and uncompleted roads across the country and the list goes on. All David Umahi can embark in as priority is a so called super coastal highway from Lagos to Calabar. Another Niger - Nigeria rail line project on the south side. I thought slave trade was over and no slave merchants anymore. NAIJA. PEOPLE. Shine your eyes. According to David Umahi's last speech. He said " There's devil in the detail " ooh !!!

So there should be no beach resorts in Nigeria because the government can take the land anytime? This is the stupidity and ignorance of some Nigerians who don't understand the value of the waterfront. The beaches are a great source of income. Probably worth 200 billion annually according the the world bank. That is 6 times what we get from oil. Imagine buliding a road to obstruct the beach resorts that line the beaches of Jamaica.
